There are too very underatted pieces of equipment to come out in the mid 80s. The YAMAHA RX5 DRUM MACHINE. AND THE ROLAND JX8P. I have them both olus a DX7. Now you have the classic sound of the 80s with those three.
i had a jx8p.. bought it in 85. thats when i realized how quickly i got out of control.. so i developed a slower style. i loved playing with the envelopes and getting the lows to roll up the wall. sadly my home was robbed. took my roland and my guild 12 string. you ever get the feeling your best friend who's strung out on crystal meth might have had a little something to do with that? well, b4 he was a victum of meth we were great musical pals..
It was the only analog in my local music shop - besides a prophet and ob8 that aren't for sale - and I bought it almost instantly. 300€ best spent in my whole life. Soon I'll get hold of a BCR2000 that is said to be a valid substitute for the PG
Argggh! I had one of these in college, with the PG-800. I was too inexperienced to appreciate it. Now I do all my synthesis with a Nord Wave & Stage EX. Yeah it does ALL the same stuff and more, but it's VIRTUAL analog (not quite the same). I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one of these off of eBay (with the PG-800, of course)...
wow this sounds awesome. I have a JX 8P but I'm thinking of selling it because the keys need cleaning and I don't want to pay 80 bucks just to get them cleaned. but this video makes me want to hold on to it.
@culturaleyes 80 dollars? while that sounds a little high its super extra strength worth it. anything you'd try to buy to replace it is going to cost you tons more , and wont be the same .
old synths are like old cars, you have to give them the classic treatment., because they arent going to make more... ever..
@wolfiedmx The programmer sure is sexy but I think I recall having read somewhere that you can actually use any standard MIDI slider box, it´s definitively worth to check out!
Listening to this now makes me seriously regret having sold my JX-8P and PG-800 a few years ago for practically nothing! It's amazing... I posted it on eBay, and like nobody wanted it -- including myself, at the time! I'm still kicking myself. I'll never make that mistake again. I could REALLY use it now. What the %&§$ was I thinking?!
I think the JX-8P is not the best roland synth - he best is the JP4, ok? :)) - but I love these warm JX pads. No other synth makes these lush 80`s sounds so nice. With the PG-800 a absolute big standard analog synth for classic 80`s sounds.

@retrosound72 i agree digital is so harsh and thin. analog is fat and warm the best.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
why is it you always need a controller? why don't you please just show is the synth on its own. too much extra gear that no one wants to buy
real80smusic 2 years ago
this is the optional programmer pg-800 made only for the JX synths not a simple midi controller box.
also for other roland synths JX-3P/MKS-30 (PG-200), Alpha-Juno/MKS-50 (PG-300) , MKS-80 (MPG-80) can you buy a programmer
You can also program this synth less the PG but it makes much more fun with it
retrosound72 2 years ago
The controller doesn't change or expand the sound capabilities of the machine, just make things simpler.
myrmur 2 years ago 2
but why use the controller if you don't need it? in other words it's a pain in the ass without it
