The texture pattern for those figures is something like "HellValleySkyTree," but if you look at them close up and higher res, you can clearly see they're not trees. Hell Valley is rumored to be the name of a scrapped Beta level for the game, so perhaps they were going to be used. The question of why they appear here still remains.
