  • I'm fucked up and I really like this!! oh and i'm white too.

  • @elliotness2 I'm white

  • im tired of fucking hearing people say that im white and i like this. who really gives a fuck if youre white. just listen to the goddamn music. And by the way we are all one race...the HUMAN RACE.

  • I'm white and I like this.

  • My black brotha's look good rather in the 50's 60's 70's 80's all the way from the roota to the toota'....I love my black men. Unfortunately, they will become rarer and finer than gold. Read your bible.... this is future.

  • Home is where the Hatred is...Brotha ain't never lied!!

  • It's not so much about Kanya stealing as is about CARRYING YOUR OWN GENERATIONAL BATON, My generation gave u Gil Scott Heron, we expected to recieve something which would supersede " Home is where the hatred is",instead the new creativity is theivery. my generation threw down!! rightously, we expected the next generation to tare a new ass!!

  • "Home is where the needle marks(and blunts) tried to heal my broken heart. And it might not be such a bad idea..."

  • @Shititude Sampling isn't straight up thievery, though. Kanye doesn't steal, he samples and just happens to make music that's apparently bad. I've never payed enough attention to him to decide if I like him or not, but he can be an amazing producer sometimes.

  • great song

  • classic

  • Kanye West

  • @macwoodtv dammit nobody gives a damn about Kanye West here !!! it's like I went on Kanye's video & i wrote Gil Scott-Heron. WOW , and what now ? listen to real artist not thiefs.

  • @Shititude how is he a thief? and he obviously sampled from a "real artist"

  • @TheNewCoolKidz He always samples from real artists, whithout trying to make his REAL OWN creations

  • @Shititude welcome to hiphop jackass.

  • @ItsBlackFriday Hip hop doesn't work like this. Welcome to music.

  • @Shititude okay there. Hip hop is all about taking and mixing samples to create something. Quit being so pretentious and take music for what its meant to be. Enjoyed.

  • @Shititude why are you so mad? its sad but true, if it wasn't for kanye some people would never have found out who Gil Scott Heron was.... i don't see why you can be so mad at kanye for introducing a new generation to a previous generation's genius... in fact you should thank Kanye

  • This song is fucking beautiful.

  • This song comes from deep, deep down inside the man.

  • My brother. You did your best, so well done. RIP

  • RIGHT ON MY BROTHA

  • this is my fucking theme song. I fought my dad and walked back to my moms house, 40 miles away, and sang this song to get me there. i put my fist in the air when the people smiled.

  • i want to sample the strings that come in at 1:49 to 2:00

  • @ThePaperBagProject kanye got you on that one. kindof. I dont think he used thatpart

  • Thumbs up if your white and love Gil Scott Heron

  • @427monkeyman why?

  • @427monkeyman

Raise your hand if you know your grammar. Not so fast 427monkeyman.

  • @427monkeyman

That's stupid, monkeyman!! Gil is not a race thing - it's fucking brilliant music that speaks to everyone who has ears.......

  • @gorkididi i agree with you here... if anything I feel the poor and middle class as a whole can relate more to this than their rich counterparts. But music is for everyone...not just certain races...And if it were only for certain races...blacks would kick our ass is every genre... and yes I'm a honkey..but it's the truth...think about it

  • @gorkididi soo true...i was driveing home today heard this come on the radio all it made me think of things that happend in the past...race has nothing to do with this song

  • @427monkeyman white mexican lol

  • This guy looks like jimi hendrix

  • @678Drummer I thought exactly the same ;p

  • GTA IV sent me here

  • That's some deep soul man.

  • common

  • Very powerful songs

  • @VirgoChild...ditto! That is the very reason this song stood out to me but, the allusion from Kanye's Late registration is what brought to Gil. Very powerful to me on so many levels.

  • Damn!! This is a good song. How is it that blues, soul, and funk have withered away, and rap has taken over?

  • @bullballsallday it hasnt

  • KICK IT QUIT IT KICK IT QUIT IT!

  • this is my theme song, especially around the holidays. i feel like im the most hated person in those times, but this song justifies it.

  • The most beautiful lips I've ever seen...

  • The power and culture gave by the africanamerican people.... in its greatness.. inside this nice song... imagine the world without afrincan-american.. what a waste of time that would be...

  • @Camilo21986 but that goes for everyone else as well,

what the fuck is this world without fried rice

  • @Te4RHyP3 sure you are right,..

  • @Te4RHyP3 This world is a whole lotta things without fried rice, but it wouldn't be much of anything without the beauty of black people creativity thru music,. u either missin some digits, or you're chinese to eguate fried rice with the genius of black music.

  • @Camilo21986 This song was never about race really, though it is deep and has and can appeal to different people for different reasons I suppose.

  • @Slipstream1984 You are right, but i said that bc of Gil Scott Heron....not the song. Thank you

  • a junkie walking through the twilight im on my way home

  • An ad on a Gil Scott Heron video?... they're infiltrating the cool videos now... We're all FUCKED!

  • DEFINITION OF MUSIC..........

  • smoke some wy...... in the 70s yeaaa baby

  • Carolina on my mind... cole world

  • 15 less people I don't need to worry about buying up this amazing record.

  • Some videos I look at the dislike bar and see something and wonder, "Does anybody actually not like this" or are there just assholes who dislike videos for fun?

  • :)

  • This is the shit!!!

  • R.I.P GSH <3

  • What in the hell does Kanye West have to do with Gil Scott? Is he black, too?

  • @xXStrWbrrYsToneXx Listen to" on my way home"- Kanye West ft. Common

  • @xXStrWbrrYsToneXx LOL!!!!!

  • these adverts are shitter than mr hankey the christmas poo

  • This album also changed my life!! So powerful! I was 19 living in NYC, what a rude awakening living in a white bread neighborhood! GSH was the "Truth"!

  • The imagery in this song reminds me of that show, The Wire. Probably cause I was watching a lot of that show when I first heard the song.

  • I thought this was jimmi hendrix at first...powerful stuff.

  • Masterpiece soul brutha much loved always

  • R.I.P

  • @18JapaN Calm down kid.

  • @18JapaN wow, the solution to world hunger, your emotional dispositions and your stupidity all in one go...amaizing!!!

  • @kimwabeeproductions you know i did just because i know someone like you is going to post this and it worked you are so stupid but u know idc wat u think because your just going to die alone

  • dude looking like Common.

  • @eliteF0UR Common could play the role; both Gil and Common are from Chicago.

  • his updated version on the Spirit Album is better than his original version.

  • Oh wow... i'm an electro/house kinda guy.... but wow, just.. wow. this is powerful.

  • @nickfury102 yeah real music tends to be powerful

  • Wow, the thing about GSH there is no way you can ever unlisten his music. He is so powerful, and so good, he's on a short list of entertainers that has actually changed my life.

  • 1.) Yeah, but what are black youth going to do when all the host songs are used up? 2.) Clearly, the skill, lyrical significance & artistry that ATTRACTED you in the first place needs to be PRESERVED. I mean that with a tear in my eye. 3.) Therefore, we need to mimic the artists of old & LEARN to play an instrument, not just piggyback off THEIR accomplishment & call it the ESSENCE of hip-hop. Whatever, man, it's still parasitic activity at it's lowest level of understanding. no clue? See #1.

  • @btinsley1 So if you know how to play an instrument, you can instantly copy anyone else? Do you see that what you said doesn't make sense? This is not to disrespect your opinion, I just believe that it is about CREATIVITY not "skill" or anyone's definition of that word. Skill can be many things.

  • @mkoll123: What you say begs the question that a joe-blow of today can even PLAY an instrument. Accomplish that first, then come see me. All that conjecture about CREATIVITY means a flock of seagulls since a "producer" (chuckle) wouldn't choose crap to piggyback. He picks the lyrically significant and instrumentally pleasing track to sample. Outside of that truth, when I read your post, I wonder, yet again....what will happen when the "host" songs are used up? moans & grunts yo, that's what !

  • Why is this mans music not well known to EVERYONE!? It needs to be...

  • This was my SONG...4 many yearz, felt like it waz written 4 me. I've respected Mr. Gil Scott-Heron and ALWAYZ will. I will miss muzik from him, but will continue to be Blessed with what he left us. He will be remembered infinetely.

    Peace & blessings ~

  • Who in the fuck are the 12 people that didn't like this.

  • @brookerwood - probably whitey, getting back from the moon

  • @brookerwood - don't worry , it's just one old bloke with Parkinsons who keeps missing the thumbs up button.Be patient it might take him 20 goes before he gets it,he's had 16 shots now !

  • @brookerwood Hey I feel ya but it's ok...they're just way down over yonder there on that lower frequency [maybe]. Then again, everything ain't for everybody...

  • Kanya West isn't the only one, a lot of the rappers today have no origenal stuff at all everything is sampled

  • @MrTorrance01 If you think sampling isn't 'origenal' than almost no hip hop is origenal. Sampling is essential to hip hop, it's part of what makes it hip hop. the things you can do with a 5 sec loop from 1970 whatever is untold. it's been goin on in hip hop since the beginning and it aint going nowhere son.

  • @MrTorrance01 That's how it was when it first started though. Sampling came with it.

  • @MrTorrance01 if you knew anything about hip hop, you'd know that sampling IS hip hop.

  • @MrTorrance01 you are stupid

  • like my amerika its gone a bad dream

  • After many years of drug use i have lived every word of this song and it all started about 1971 just like this Album ! but thata all behind me now thank God

  • After many years of drug use i have lived every word of this song and it all started about 1971 just like this Album

  • Kanye west samples this.

  • badass bassplaying

  • j.cole did justice to this song!! forget kanye and common!!

  • @emziiella

yo whats the name of the j cole version

  • @datflyguy215 it called homecoming. its on the come up album. enjoy!

  • @kdtheballa ..ditto..

  • Godamn right

  • Gil Scott Heron, last of the REAL modern day poets

  • beautiful song

  • @Soiffersrock you need to leave this video, its become too tedious to watch all this. Bad enough that 11 people have somehow disliked this song but you living here 24/7 is just unhealthy.

  • Common sampled this song, "My Way Home".

  • @lmarr07 Kanye sampled this song. Common spit on it.

  • @pb0o6 I kno that.....Sampled it...spit on it.....same thing.

  • Listening to this and to Gil now. Hard to believe it's the same man. Drugs done fucked him up bad.

  • @Soiffersrock Wow are you seriously implying i should whip my kids if they act up. Wow brother apparently you can’t distinct the difference between abuse and discipline? I discipline my kids. Apparently, you have none and the day you do. GET AT ME! Trust me! And that’s goes back to my initial comment. Ah brother just wait. Just wait… You will see, I promise you …

  • Reid, I wish you could have come home again.

  • @Soiffersrock You disagree. So I don't give a shit. That's your opinion good for you. Ill be dam if you think I'm let my kids act up like these kid do these days. Whatever.raise your children your way. I will raise mine my way.

  • Top track from a cool cat.

  • hey speeches, i couldnt agree more, THATS WHERE I CAME FROM. the bottom. i listen to this everyday man swear to god every day

  • home is where the hatred is

  • I love this man, i love the energy and movement of people during the 60's-- 70's , when revolutionary change was occuring in this country. Thank you, Gill.

  • uh oh he was a cutie lol

  • Kanye is bitchassnigga

  • you keep saying kick -it ,quit- it, kick- quit it god but did you ever tryyyyy

  • my addiction to a fucking t. i hate it so much, this is a great song

  • At Least he's a little bit decent but all them other rappers I just mentioned they the ones that's that's ruining hip hop but ignorant kids keep saying that they the best rappers I mean what the hell!!! Seriously ? They just don't know any better i guess

  • @Ice1deliver ok yeah now he's garbage but the graduation on back is some shit. But still he's better than alot of these other wack ass rappers like gucci mane Wayne and damn waka flocka I

  • This is the best song in GTA4

  • @ian1nai: This song made me learn more about this wonderful poet, and i'm glad that I did...

  • lacks true SOUL, talent, and a pure knowledgeof what music is.

    James in missouri

  • you know what, i wont leave it with kanye, ill throw in common, lupe fiasco, goody mob, mos def, nas, tech nine, countless others that u can listen to and some of its is old and when i say old i mean 90s some of it is for you 2000 but the difference is what they are saying. point i am making is for those who listen or have listened to some of the artist i typed, how in the world can u say this"new rap" is killing the likes of real music that hasnt lost ITS soul even tho the last 10 videos on 106

  • @kabol69 this is why people hate idiots doing covers/ stealing (because they can't make anything original music-wise) the song then just becomes a forum to talk about them and not the true artist: Gil Scott-Heron. Who is still making music BTW, if you people checking out HIS music here care to know.

saw him live this year and he looked pretty tired, must have been a crazy life so far, anyway his music is still creative and soulful so stop reading and check it out.

  • @hobogasm So if you were to go to a video of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" or Cream's "Crossroads", how many people would you see actually saying "Led Zeppelin is shit, Memphis Minnie is a TRUE artist" or "Eric Clapton can't come up with anything original, so he just steals from TRUE artists like Robert Johnson"?

  • @camking88 i would guess few cos thats an even further step back in history and people forget easily when newer artists (with that money making potential) are shoved in everyones faces and old (financialy depleated) music isn't celebrated and shared, so i'm not saying LedZep/ who-ever-you-want-to-randomly-mention wearnt guilty of it too

but then again it could also be cos they did covers and kanye LIFTS the music straight and resells it.

  • @hobogasm Not trying to argue or anything, but I really have to ask. How is what Kanye West does any different than Gil Scott-Heron. As you may know, Gil didn't write this music Brian Jackson did, or maybe he helped Brian Jackson write it. He is rhyming over music just like Kanye (or in this case Common). And if you've heard Gil's new album, he returns the favor by sampling Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" (which is an original beat btw).

  • @camking88 think we re going to have to just disagree to avoid flooding the comments with talk about a diff artist but, for me at least, being present and a part of the creative process means there is something of you in that music, the lyics and music here aren't just two seperate things glued together, its the fruit of artists trying to work in unison in one place at the same time, in symphony. working backwards on that just makes the music a commodity to be used after judging its value.

  • @camking88 another reason is that it doesn't create an chance for others to be creative when you just take from the established successes. someone could have created some OC for kanye but he knew this was already a hit and used that to sell records. although sampling (to various extents) is becoming the norm it doesn't make it less a product of trying to avoid the process of creativity in favour of a quick and acceptable solution. and that isn't what i look for in music or art.

  • @hobogasm Thank you for your answer. You're the first person who actually answered the question with something other than "Kanye is garbage, rap is crap". In my opinion, there is an art to sampling, check out people like RZA, J Dilla, and Pete Rock. Not just hip hop either, even Radiohead samples (albeit to a lesser extent). With that aside, we'll agree to disagree. Thank you for actually answering the question.

  • he talks about things that all over black rappers and artist will not say because they have been"paid off" by material items such which we all have been introduced to it for the last ten years or so. rappers who really have something to say have been slienced by money, diamonds, woman, fast cars, and a quick lifestyle(the american dream) and by all means i am not saying that kanye never talk abouts his money ect.. but very few are saying and coming from the heart with DEEP DEEP emotion

  • because kayne isnt underground anymore doesnt mean that he still doesnt thave things to day. i am telling you that he talks about things that white america isnt ready for yet, example: in crack music kanye said" how u stop the black panthers, ronald reagen cooked up an answer" and in "all falls down" he said drug dealer buy jordens, crack head but crack and the white man get paid off of all of that. he puts alot of things in his music that everyone else is scared to say. listen to crack music

  • where could i find this lp??? and kanye has some gil in his songs?

  • this track's in gta4

  • A pure genius.

    Brian Jackson too.

  • IT WAS GOOD THEN AND IT'S EVEN BETTER NOW BOTH CUTS ESTER PHILLIPS AND GIL SCOTT

  • kanye is the shit. when its him and common on the track, its nasty stupid ill. in my opinion common and kanye are like the shaq and kobe in hip hop to the 2000s as far as having something to say. kanye talks about alot of deep shit but it only appels to the ears that wish to listen.you listen to "southside' by common and kanye and its real, no samples just raw. common is talking some real shit on that sample of this song. people just look for the bad in people alot and kanye is a huge example

  • This music will remain forever. Even when man is gone and left the earth the cosmos will still have the tunes man!!

  • @funkality deep man

  • sampling is the homage to the orginal.....

  • @wave4mer Maybe artists like Kanye can truly pay homage to artists like Gil Scott Heron in a 'sleeve note' / 'credit' that acknowledges the rich heritage legacy that is available (because of Gil Scot Heron et al) which he has used to inspire his creativity to then enable the 'younger' members of his audience group to go off on gain new music experiences independently.

Surely Kanye would have everything to gain by truly paying homage in this way.

  • @wave4mer When done properly.

  • @wave4mer to be honest bro thats not only america who has changed, all the world out there changed!!

To much Tv,maby the right answer...

  • Can someone please tell me where the old America went. The tuff America, where kids came home with dirty cloth and bloody knees.
