He goes further by saying even agriculture creates a problem ----well there are numerous that have developed due to a sedentary lifestyle, but I don't have that much space to type. Avatar certainly was anti-American. It combined the American ignorance and intollerance towards the Native Americans along with todays rape of Iraq and Afghanistan: to colonize, conquer, and rob from a land that isn't theirs. The myth of "development, democracy, schools, and medicine", while looking at the locals as savages, subhumans, and terrorists was right on the money. Avatar was a wonderful movie, especially in 3D. Fantasy/fiction based on fact. Highly recommended!

The Vietnamization policy failed because after the pull out in 1973 the American government cut finance and weapons supplies to the South Vietnamese military.
America is unlikely to cut funding to the Iraqi military and is going to maintain military "advisors" in Iraq who are going to train the Iraqi army and give them direction. They already do the same with most of the armies in the Middle East e.g. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan etc.
Vietnamization failed because America left the fighting to their incompetent lapdogs. When America pulls out of Iraq, I don't doubt they'll pour money down a rat hole to save their doomed lackeys. 20th Century Fox (not Cameron though) had to apologise to the family of one of Titanics first officers called William Murdoch. The man was a hero who saved many lives at the risk of his own. He was horribly misrepresented as a coward and murderer. The film will have a lasting impact that people will mistake as fact, so they should have altered the video version if they had an honour.

Of course it is wrong to take a persons resources. But, were you, in Vietnam to see what happened? There, the Viet Cong terrorised the local villages to FORCE their compliance whilst it was the American and Australian troops chased the VC out. Were you in Afghanistan where the Taliban terrorise the locals and its the Coalition troops who protect them. Know something about the facts on the ground before you make such comments and the same goes for Cameron. A movie can be made with any viewpoint

@nr63kish Keep in mind this is a film set in a future where capital greed has more or less destroyed the earth requiring soldiers to harvest resources elsewhere. But in this future, the government has lost power to these greedy corporations---so who could possibly fund such an extra-planetary excursion? That's right, the greedy corporations, who would only hire soldiers that uphold their ruthless mission. This movie isn't about today's soldiers, it's about colonialism and capitalism.

@nr63kish farmers can no longer earn a comfortable living. Check out an article called "The Original Affluent Society" by Marshall Sahlins. He goes further by saying even agriculture creates a problem ----well there are numerous that have developed due to a sedentary lifestyle, but I don't have that much space to type. In the end, the wonder that is capitalism went bad, because let's face it, humans can be greedy little animals, and the world was screwed over because of it.

conservatives are fat tards. Movie was somewhat good. I've written some stuff, and I looked over one of my scripts and realized how similar it was to Aladdin (disney movie). Shit like this happens and its annoying to us writers. However, Avatar wasn't perfect of course, but I sure enjoyed it. Original ideas don't exists anymore (superman and batman are old greek ideas). You can look at this film like it was a political message, but I saw it as a philosophical message you greedy bastards.

Avatar certainly was anti-American. It combined the American ignorance and intollerance towards the Native Americans along with todays rape of Iraq and Afghanistan: to colonize, conquer, and rob from a land that isn't theirs. The myth of "development, democracy, schools, and medicine", while looking at the locals as savages, subhumans, and terrorists was right on the money. Avatar was a wonderful movie, especially in 3D. Fantasy/fiction based on fact. Highly recommended!

America installed Saddam as dictator because they were in a global struggle with the Soviets. Saddam played both sides and he got finance and weapons from the Americans, Russians and French. The current Iraqi government is a puppet government but at least it is elected by the Iraqi people. America had no interest in Afghanistan before 9/11.

The Vietnamization policy failed because after the pull out in 1973 the American government cut finance and weapons supplies to the South Vietnamese military.
America is unlikely to cut funding to the Iraqi military and is going to maintain military "advisors" in Iraq who are going to train the Iraqi army and give them direction. They already do the same with most of the armies in the Middle East e.g. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan etc.

Wow, where to start. I suppose it would be sensible to first off say that this movie has no direct connection between America and the marines in the movie. They are simply a military force that is aiding the corporation in the movie. People can take away from this what they want, I personally did think of the U.S. when I saw this movie. I do think that this movie portrayed a conservitive American attitude toward resources and the beings that reside upon them. Navi=Forest....Expensive Ore=Oil.

The movie was about a government plan to use military force to take over land and destroy a culture and the enviroronment of an alien planet in order to obtain precious minerals. The "hero" is a person who did not believe such act was moral and turned against his own, which just happens to be portrayed as American Marines of the future.
How is that anti-American? Like dirkdeldiablo said, it's "pro-environment"

Beyond the history, the same story lines are coming back because its still relevant TODAY. Native Americans are STILL oppressed peoples with high poverty and diabetes rates, and those don't just happen as coincidence. I hope this movie can show people that acting as individualistic consumers IS oppressive to the eath and to peoples with unequal opportunity that is carried from history to today. Liberation and reconciliation is needed, I hope we realize it at least a little more from this movie!

PLUS! people are watching it because deep down we have this notion of sustainable living, not BURNING the world in order to live in it, community, and family, which is what the Na'vi people are showing us! Environmental issues shouldn't be polarizing consertavite/liberal... and this movie gets right at people's emotions to show them that, that another world is possible. Bring the liberal activism! i am a hardcore conservative and i just saw the movie two nights ago. it has to be one of the most amazing movies ive ever seen! and to me honostly, you can either look at it political or non political. yeah some things in there were kinda liberal but it at the same time it wasnt. like how they do kinda make the military look like bad people. but at the same time the natives (blue people) fight back and get in this huge battle. so i mean its not that political or liberal. thats just my thought

My second question is- why now? why wouldnt he choose to release this movie at another time when america wasnt at conflict and politcal debate is high.
