I reviewed the Jaguar port, but that was a very long time ago. I planned on doing a series of reviews like Wolf3D, but I guess it just kept getting put on the backburner. Someday I hope.
What I don't understand besides the censorship is why they chopped out so much of the sound...honestly couldn't they compress the audio to have a better selection? Oh and the chaingun sounds terrible, considering how satisfying it sounded in the PC version when you had a Soundblaster 16 and good speakers.
Oh, and the lack of patrolling enemies really does impact the gameplay...several levels in the first episode you could easily sneak up and knife enemies to get the jump on the others.
Yes, I do. I just don't see why excessive swearing and emotional bias have a place in an informative review.
Too many reviews on Youtube are there for entertainment value with little to no real information, with people who sound like idiots swearing about stuff in games they don't understand.
Anyways, don't mean to sound brash. But I feel people put AVGN and other non-serious reviewers are a waste of space.
I loved this game on the PC and SNES. Nice review man. I liked how you stated the differences and similarities between the Snes port and PC. I look forward to your future reviews.
Good job on the review. Only criticism I have is that you should make the sound of the game a bit lower, as it has a tendency to drown your voice out. Of course, maybe it's just me. :p
I was thinking about that, but the program I use for the voiceover drops the other sound off past a certain volume. I may have to fiddle with it for future reviews.
Considering the limitations of the hardware this actually looks like a decent and playable port. The same goes for SNES Doom as well.

what game do you like better?doom or wolfenstein 3d?
kennylikes2lol 3 years ago
Depending on the day, it shifts between Doom, Wolf3D, and Quake. ;)
Most of the time, it's Doom though. It's the reason why I bought a computer back in 1993 in the first place.
Just like almost every system I've bought was for a Castlevania game. ;)

Well put and effectively addressed.

I prefer a level headed, straight to the point review over a flamboyant review full of useless pseudo-comedy.
Well done.

Hallo! Your reviews are very professional and thorough.

@elbryan42
No, they aren't a waste of space. They are entertainers, that is what they are meant to do.
James likes to entertain people, and does so with his Nerd character and his bullshit character.
Even when he is being himself on board games and DVD's and such he is still entertaining.

does this port have the run function?
xDoommaster1994x 3 years ago
Yes, you hold Y.

Oh alright, thanks. Dude get on AIM I have something REALLY important to tell you!
xDoommaster1994x 3 years ago
And I was just making sure because I've heard from a lot of YTrs, there is no run function in this version.
xDoommaster1994 3 years ago
The only version with no run function is the unlockable version of PC Wolf3D on the XBox version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
elbryan42 3 years ago
Oh alright.

Oh, and I must add that I enjoyed his wrestling reviews. Lots of little tidbits that I like in there. :)
