In 2009, 49 states and Puerto Rico reported 6,690 cases of rabies in animals and 4 human cases to CDC Hawaii is the only state that is rabies free and they have cats.

I think every kid in town and a lot of grownups would give say $1 to a fund to help with this issue. Make a Town solution where everyone is involved. Yard sales/ bean bag toss/ balloon races/ what ever.... It could be a fantastic educational thing. All the Vets would donate some services/ and the police and city would have so many stories to tell. I simply looked in the internet and their was a solution! I call AZ Cats and they said i could borrow traps to trap, neuter & release them. I did so & also found homes for about 30 kittens. I would take them from their mothers at about 6-7 weeks & they would NOT BE FERAL. J.D. Williams said it would cost $100 a cat- he is crazy unless they are going out to lunch or something!! I dropped them off and paid only 18-20 dollars per cat. #3

He's a Moron. Let's all stop and look at the Veterinarians here for one minute. I live in the city limits of my town and I can not get ONE SINGLE VET in town to make low cost spay/neuter available. If you live in the county, show low income you can get it done in the bus for $10 or sometimes free. But those of us who don't have proof of low income or county residence have to pay regular vet cost's for these procedures. My friend just cleaned out a colony of 68 cats at $35 per cat. We need Help!

Well, the cop certainly did nothing to dispel my general opinion of the MO mentality. Kudos to the woman who spoke and brought sanity to the discussion by suggesting something as rational and simple as spaying/neutering for population control. A well-run TNR program vaccinates the cats (a nonvector species) for rabies and sets up a barrier species between wildlife and humans. Aside from the barbarity of shooting cats, I wonder how many human injuries will occur when MO returns to the wild west.
