It means that through Jesus' sacrifice, those of us who were powerless to help ourselves (which is everyone, because the Gospel says we were all wicked and rotten) are now empowered and redeemed and restored by Him. In other words, we were poor because we had nothing to bring to God. We are rich because Jesus became the sacrifice we needed for God's wrath to be averted. We are strong because Jesus now empowers us.
@charles15148: This has a spiritual connotation. Basically, it's saying that with God, the weak are strong and the poor are "rich". Whatever we are lacking in by ourselves, God makes up for those things. I am strong in Christ and I am "rich" in Christ. Make sense?

@charles15148 it's a bit symbolic, and yet at the same time a very real statement. It means that through Jesus' sacrifice, those of us who were powerless to help ourselves (which is everyone, because the Gospel says we were all wicked and rotten) are now empowered and redeemed and restored by Him. In other words, we were poor because we had nothing to bring to God. We are rich because Jesus became the sacrifice we needed for God's wrath to be averted. We are strong because Jesus now empowers us.

@charles15148: This has a spiritual connotation. Basically, it's saying that with God, the weak are strong and the poor are "rich". Whatever we are lacking in by ourselves, God makes up for those things. I am strong in Christ and I am "rich" in Christ. Make sense?
