There's a good and a bad ending for PW2. In the bad ending, Engarde gets a not guilty, then Phoenix says "I never saw Maya again". After that, I guess he was still an attorney, and the events of Apollo Justice would take place in the "bad" timeline, whereas AAI would take place in the "good" timeline after PW2's good ending and the events of PW3.
