What I love about Motown is they let white musicians come on board in spite of how whites had treated blacks in the music industry. Rare Earth and the Funk brothers were a special breed in Detriot in the 60's. RIP Eddie. I saw RE in 1970 in San Antonio and it changed my drumming life. Peter and Gil rocked like crazy. The show was so inovative that Pete was playing this song and in the middle of it, he rose from the traps and Eddie eased in while Peter went to finish it on the bongos.
This song rocks!!! Wish they made music like this today. Musicians really put their heart and souls into their music back in the '60's and '70's. Not like today's bands, you can't even understand what they're saying, and most new music (sorry to say) has no real meaning to it, or no soul. Just a bunch of kids screaming their heads off.
I'll get off my soap box now, and say that Rare Earth Rocks, and still sounds good, even today!
I was a sophomore at WV Wesleyan College when RARE EARTH played there in 1974 with original memebers except for the drummer and saw them again at the 70's superfest concert in Morgantown at Greem Pavilion in the mid 80's. Now that I am 56 it is delightful to hear this music again. This music was and still is great, plan to see them this summer, thanks for keeping the music and memories alive. Thank You bze2niz4! You do not know how long I have been waiting for this,Years!I am with dwcdaid....Lived it and I Loved it with my Boots,Bell bottoms and my Sly Stone T-shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@bze2nlz4, lol, i'm back again. too bad we can't like'em again with the little thumbs up. i think our watching it only registers once too. that's why i decided to let you know i was back :)
This cut from "Ecology" is the definitive version. Though I think the long version of "Get Ready" is equal to this tune, Ecology was the best album they ever made.
@Rottyman63 Dude, I was born in New York, Man!!! I used to listen to 77 WABC constantly, and I remember Cousin Brucie!! Also, Harry Harrison, Dan Ingrum, Ron Lundy, just to name a few!
Now this was back in the day when Top 40 radio played music I can listen to, not the BS music you hear today (if you can even call it music).
These guys rock!!! They don't make songs like this anymore. Today's music is crap. Most music today have no meaning to it. I also dig their version of "Get Ready". Now this is good time music!!! I wish it were the '60's and '70's again. Granted, I was born in '62, but from '64 into the '70's that's when music was great!!!
Yes, this was great music. I still have the LP Rare Earth in Concert released 1971. The problem today is the corporate music culture. You can still find great music today but you have to keep your ears open and search for it. Maybe not the same genre but check out String Cheese Incident, Rusted Root or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club for some great music.
@GuzzMon Cool, thanks! Groups like Rare Earth rocked the '70's. You're right. There is some good music today, not quite like Rare Earth though. For example, I do like Lenny Kravitz. He did a decent version of "American Woman", originally done by The Guess Who, who I like very much as well. My favorite from Lenny Kravitz is "Fly Away", which came out circa 1998.
My favorite from Rare Earth is "Get Ready", which I think they did a better version than The Tempations.

Wow I was a sophomore in high school when I first heard this song, the only time we heard the long version to any song was when we listened to KEXL-FM then later it became KZEP (classic rock). I loved all those brass groups of the 70s.
@Mgarguemare Thanks, Mary...I have fond memories of this as a 'party' song! And that IS around the time we were all starting to listen to the great longer album tracks on FM!
@Mgarguemare When I first heard this version about 1986, two radio stations in the Baltimore Washington area would play it. WQSR-FM and WCXR-FM northern VA. Thanks for posting and who's singing lead?
how was that? im goin to bed now, see ya all tomorrow, and i leave you with Iron Butterfly inagadadavida!
