I respectfully disagree with you, mainly from the standpoint of Elliot's story. He didn't make it until a friend of his told him to try out for American Idol. That show opened up the doors for him and allowed him to get his music out there. The publicity you get from being on the show is well worth it. You sound like you have a biased opinion about the show anyway.

@dagnut there aRE SO many people that get discovered that way! if there was no american idol, u wudnt know who: kelly clarkson, clay aiken, carrie underwood, bo bice, elliott yamin, chris daughtry, jordin sparks, kellie pickler, blake lewis, david cook, david archuleta, kris allen, adam lambert, danny gokey, or allison iraheta were! they are amazing artists and many tried to become known before. some couldnt, tried out for Idol and are now making music. it opens up doors for a lot of people
