  • where do you get mirrors like this

  • @WatchmenDrManhattan

Steve Kennedy is the optician who makes our mirrors 22" and larger. He has more experience than anyone figuring large optics.

  • Wow, what's your focal length?

  • @deconverts

    100 inches focal length.

  • @webstertelescopes Incredible. I bet you can see the trapezium stars of M42 nicely separated in that!

  • Thank you!

  • I am really proud of the gentleman with the 28" Dobsonian. This is a true Laviethan, almost approaching Professional Astronomer Category at 36" government Lick Observatory. A 28" Primary Parabolic is the largest I have witnessed in the "Amateur Astronomer Telescope category after the lower 20" RX-400 Meade Schmidt Cassegrain Newtonian combinations which cost more for Astro-Photography, but 28" is truly HUGE by Amateur Astronomy Standards!!!!

  • Take a look at our 40" scopes also on our forum of our website.

Youtube won't let us directly link, but go to the General Telescope Discussion, and look for the 40" pictures.

  • Is it not possible to get a simple bathroom 3X concave shaving mirror, about 10 inches in diameter, and coat it with aluminium? I understand why optical mirrors cost so much...since they are hand made...but why can't they be manufactured on a large scale?

  • A C28 telescope costs $18,000

  • throw a rock on it to remove scratches... also the mirror :)

  • WOW!!!! 1600X magnification... FUCKIN' AWSOME!!!! WHAT CAN YOU SEE WITH IT?

  • Hey fgt, dont start screaming about the X:s 300x is the MAX, if you dont live in chile (lol).

The turbulance over 500x sooooo bad that if you dont have adaptive optics (wich i guess you dont have). You see ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

  • can i use a mirror from an anti aircraft light projector to make a telescope?

  • We would have to know much more about that mirror you have. Email us the specs or send us the mirror for evaluation. Thank you.

  • You mentioned you used a piece of cardboard to deflect the water during cleaning. You can probably also tape or glue some aluminum foil on top of the cardboard to prevent it from getting all wet.

  • You could use foil if you wanted to reuse the cardboard, but in practice the cardboard stays intact even when wet.

A roll up snow sled can make a nice, permanent water chute too.

  • Man this is magnificent.I want a telescope like this..Where can I buy that primary and secondary mirrors ?

  • Pegasus Optics is a starting place.I hope you are ready to sink some money into it.For the primary mirror ONLY you are looking at prices like,20"-$3600US,22"-$5000US,24"-$6600US.Most of the large mirrors in this range are ground by the owner of the telescope or paid for someone to do it.The glass blanks to grind for a scope this size, you are probably still looking at a couple grand. Then you still have to get them silvered or coated with aluminum.Might be something used at Astromart.

  • Appreciate the good advice.

  • Interesting. Good tips on cleaning and transporting.
