Thank You Mr. Kucinich! You are a great man for working people!!!! The Problems you faced a still true on a Federal Level!! Keep sticking up for the working people
I'm not partial to Kucinich's political philosophy, particularly on foreign policy, but I do thank you for uploading this as purely a piece of media history, because I was a fan of Tom Snyder's. This is great television, no matter what your political bent!
Cleveland at that time was a very dynamic place. It was a potential Chicago (across the street from this diner is Lakewood, the most densely populated city between NY and Chicago)but also a potential Allentown. We know which way that has gone, even after the boom we had in the 90's.
gguerra3: There was a window of time in YouTube's history where people who set up producer accounts would not have a time limit. Some of those accounts are still around, like this one.
Just be grateful that these time limits don't uniformly exist, so we can get long chunks of video like this, without having to download in multiple segments!
I lived in Akron, just south of Cleveland, at this time. Kucinich was in way over his head. He became a laughing stock. Some people think that he still is. All I can say is I remember the Cuyahoga river caught fire during his tenure. Kind of symbolic I think.
Yeah, I live in Boston, where back then we'd had our problems with desegregation, etc., but I remember Kucinich being covered in the national media back then, was called everything from "The Boy Mayor" to "Dennis the Menace."
From his laughable presidential campaigns, where he'd suggest things like creating a cabinet level "Secretary of Peace," America may now see what a flake Cleveland elected as its mayor back in the day!
But, hey, you've got the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Be proud of that.
Everybody in America should watch this interview. The guy is brilliant and it's clear, even here, why the mainstream media has essentially ignored his existence. Thanks for posting it.
I bet Dennis just loved eating his meal..and being forced to inhale "ol' Tom's" cigarette smoke at the same time, huh? lol
Speaking of which...this video was from 1978 and you could kinda tell way back then that "ol' Tom" wasn't gonna live a very long life (he was only 71 when he died) just by listening to the hoarseness of his voice and the way he takes a deep, guttural-sounding breaths at the beginning of this video.
What's amazing about this video to me: this is the only time I've ever seen any politician interviewed on national TV with an interview with Tom Snyder's stature, over breakfast in a regular ol' diner--where regular people are!!
Everybody spread the word that the polls are fake. They're trying to make it seem as if he has no chance. Tell everyone you know about this and tell them to tell everyone they know about it! Americans can't be this stupid. have faith and spread the word!
Today I saw Congressman Kucinich address the Arab American Institute's National Leadership Conference at the Double Tree Hotel in Detroit. He gave an electrifying speech straight that came from the heart. Had the room in the palm of his hand. It was quite amazing to see.
His campain office is still today like a block from where this video footage was shot. I ran into him at the marathon gas station down the street once, real nice guy. Good Luck with the election. :)
I am voting ONLY for Dennis Kucinich. I am voting with my heart, I am voting with my intellect, I am voting with my conscience. That is why I am voting for Dennis Kucinich!
Wow! Tom, Dennis and some fool jammin on the jazz archtop in the breaks.
Sounded like George Benson influence. What a rockin time. The 70's were all about change. That kinda got stolen when Reagan came to office. I remember in 79 there was a lot of hope and despair...but we knew something needed to happen. Glad to see Dennis still fighting the good fight, still doing the great work. He has my total support. GO Dennis!
Wow- it's kinda weird seeing a journalist ask hard hitting questions! Dennis handles it with his usual honesty and tact; good practice for dealing with todays mockingbird media!
His position on the police chief's firing is the very same experience a cousin of mine had who became mayor of a small town to get rid of corruption with the police and other powerful groups. Probably didn't know he was going to insist on the reform the voters wanted. When he did follow through they organized and elected one of their cronies in a well funded campaign. I've seen this several places. This is a tough interview with Snyder.
Kucinich=Integrity. I'd love to see a video of ANY of the other current Presidential candidates from 1978.. or G. Bush - ha! In 1998 the Cleveland City Council gave Kucinich an award for keeping his promise to the voters, because he was right and he saved the citizens over $27 million in utility bills - because he didn't cave to big business pressure. Kucinich = courage, consistency, compassion, clear thinking. I am donating every week.
anablic, if you would really like to see a vid clip of "ANY" of the other current presidential candidates from the 70's, google any combination of the following words: Mike Gravel, June 1971, exposes pentagon papers, one man filibuster, single handedly ends draft/war in Vietnam. =)
Kucinich kept his promise to the voters of Cleveland even the power structure (media / big business) was against him because he wouldn't hand over the utility. The Cleveland City Council gave him an AWARD in 1998 for saving the Cleveland citizens over $27,000,000 in utility bills, because he stood his ground, even tho he sacrificed his job as mayor. They admitted that HE WAS RIGHT!!
I am for Mike Gravel but disagree with bashing DK, who has always been consistent. The rest of them, yeah, definitely the case. The only problem I have with DK is he hasn't done a filibuster even though he has put in all the right bills: universal healthcare, impeachment, etc.
Yes, Gravel didn't care if he got re-elected, he wanted to stop the war more than anything else. He was hated by both parties, the President and the media for sticking to his principles.
Dennis Kucinich has my heart/brain support. He is sweeping the country by storm, despite the mainstream media's best efforts to marginalize him. He cannot be held back. His integrity cuts through the deception and people respond to that. His victory is inevitable. (I tried to put this on the CBS vid, but my comment is "Pending approval").

Amazing. He's just as strong as a 30 year old mayor of Cleveland as he is as a 60 year old candidate for President. This is the man we need running this country. :-)
This is the Dennis we know and love with a young body..but the same spirit of concern for the people. Same integrity, same fight for the common people, same Dennis... the one who ought to be President!
Whoever found the Kucinich interview with Tom Snyder did us a big favor. We see Dennis as a young man with principles, with ideals. Last week I heard Senator Kucinich speak as a candidate for President. He is the same consistant voice today as he was with Tom Snyder years ago. "Politician" doesn't have to be a bad word.
Tom Snyder. What a great interviewer. No airs about him. Not an attack dog or a talking head trying to score points and ratings. He brought you real substance with some light heartedness trhown in as well. His easy manner connected with his audience. You always felt like his late late program was taking place right in your living room. RIP.
I would LOVE to see this man in the White House for the next 8 years! But to believe that this could actually happen would be naive. Someone as progressive as Dennis will simply not be allowed by the power structure that owns and operates this government to become president. America has never been a democracy at the federal level. It's ostensibly a republic -- at least on paper. But, in reality, the U.S. government has always functioned as an oligarcy.
Dennis is mistaken. the people lose em all and the power elite, the illuminati freemasons or trilateral commission, whatever you want to refer to them as, they always win, just ask all the dead Iraqis.
If you subscribe to someone, then unsubscribe, subscribe again (their count won't increase), unsubscribe again (their count WILL decrease), you can make that person's subscriber count go down. You can repeat indefinitely until 0....use wisely, hehe
This video made my heart soar! Dennis was so supportive of those he represented, and his integrity showed--even then, when he was so young. If I was to close my eyes and just listen, I would not know any time had passed; Dennis Kucinich has always tood up for what he believed in. And he believes in his principles. I believe, too, Dennis! Please, everyone, send him your support and work for this campaign. He's the one, without a doubt.
How can you NOT vote for this man! Our current president won't even answer questions in his own press room. Kucinich can sit down, have a meal and engage in an open dialog and still manage to fight for justice for the ordinary American.
Will the Dennis "the big-interest's menace" please stand uP?
WOULD YOU only vote for the candidate that is genuinely committed to the issues that wouldn't necessarily grab the headlines, that nonetheless will deal with the travesties that our PRESIDENT needs to tackle?
Google the following 3 terms if you're really into finding the next REAL AMERICAN LEADER:
I can't get this video to download... what the heck is going on? Mimigibs, noooo! hehe, its ok. I'm convinced that people come to his videos just to post 1 star without even listening to it so his rating isn't 5 somehow. Anyway, this video is not downloading... I wonder if CNN is behind it? oh well, I'll come back later...
It's quite impressive that Dennis was talking of almost the same things as he does today ... fighting for the "little" people, stopping corporate control, pointing out corruption in our government; and he is amazingly intelligent and educated on the issues!
Wake up people ... Kucinich is the ONLY politician who can truly save our country AND the world!!
Dennis was just as brilliant back then, and even more dreamy! Which is significant because we all know back in those early days hillary was a republican.
Will the U.S. be saved by Kucinich, maybe on this issue he could put us on the right track? What does he have to say about this ongoing American travesty?
If you HUNGER TO REALLY know more about how to be a genuine independent and "vote different", then:
Google these 3 terms: independence English PR
Then press on the first webpage that appears on the list (DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT US POLICIES???).
Do you have the courage to find out how to make this a really democratic debate?!
Wow! Dennis's analysis of the effect of money is as current and contemporary today as it was then. Dennis has been a truly consistent political leader. There is not a single residential candidate today who can honestly claim credit to the kind of consistent advocacy for regular folks that this video proves Dennis has had.
I was a college student in Cleveland when Dennis was Mayor. He really was swimming against the current, and many of us scratched our heads over his stance, but boy he makes me proud to be a former Clevelander! He doesn't back down! Thanks to Tom Snyder for bringing us such stories with compassion and intelligence.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS. You will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't post this comment to at least 3 videos, you will die within 2 days. Copy and paste this, to be saved
One of the things I like about Mr. Kucinich is that he is actually eating during an interview in a diner! (His dedication to his political point of view is remarkable, too.)
Dennis would appear to have been a failure as mayor look at Cleveland today. Buchanan for president.

I'm still getting used to a new laptop and accidentally hit two stars when rating this video. I meant to hit the five stars... oops.

I love this video! Dennis has always been and will always be... Dennis. God bless him!

Must agree. Love Tom Snyder and Kucinich would be a wonderful president. This video speaks of much better times...ahh...to relive the 70's and 80's.

The D man was darling back then and still handsome today! Nobody but Dennis for President in 2008!

One of the things I like about Mr. Kucinich is that he is actually eating during an interview in a diner! (His dedication to his political point of view is remarkable, too.)
