  • Browse my other videos for the FULL, COMPLETE version of the Crowdies' appearance on The Factory... aired for the first time since 1988.

  • Look at those spring chickens. This makes me smile. Love those Crowdie boys xo

  • So sad to see Paul acting this funny and knowing he's already gone to heaven is very gloomy.

    Rest in peace...

  • i was DEFIANTLY born in the wrong era. Someone please get me a tardis!

  • what a special moment in time, Neil's beautiful eyes, and Hessie's beautiful soul...

  • Nice guitar!! :o

  • "I'll kiss you in 195 places..." :-)

  • @VelvetViolator ...sooo nice...

  • Hessie's harmony with the guys on "Throw Your Arms Around Me" was incredible. on each song, but wow --- on that middle track --- he was excellent in so many ways. [thanks, for posting this!]

  • Ah, wish I could turn the clock back to 1986, 87, 88....

  • It's been exactly 6 years this saturday that Paul Hester died. It's so sad.

  • Never seen this footage before. Shows how incredibly talented these guys were. Amazing.

  • 2nd is a Hunters&Collectors tune???

  • Great band. R.I.P. Paul Hester.

  • @krautball Doesn't forget the lyrics.....there is a guitar solo that comes in right away, and he didn't know how to merge into it properly....

  • (sister madly) His guitar cuts out half way through, he forgets the lyrics, Paul and Nick come in at the wrong time at various points, but you know what? It's still brilliant. Brilliant.

  • If ever I need a reminder on why I love Neil Finn, I can just watch this... utterly breath tanking and amazing, all 8:10 of it! :)

  • 195 places.. mmmm i could only imagine! ;-)

  • 8 minutes of pure acoustic genius. Amazing.

  • i'm very happy to say that i witnessed their greatness, albeit without Paul. but Matt Sherrod is right up there and into it all, and i felt Paul's presence at the show i saw in Austin earlier this month. they performed "Better Be Home Soon", which is where i felt him there, and i was the only person that i could see holding up a lighter for him (does anyone do that anymore? LOL)

  • i think Neil has used this same guitar in other peformances, most definitely on another here on youtube for Better Be Home Soon/I Feel Possessed

just saw CH earlier this month, and i could swear he was using the same guitar he played at the 1996 Farewell To The World show in Sydney. i love stuff like that!

  • To perform so flawlessly in front of such a dull and distracting audience highlights the brilliants of these three highly talented guys!

  • Paul was such fun and to think he suffered with such depression. I miss him.

  • can anyone identify neils guitar here? it looks like a stratacoustic with a metal headstock?? anyone??

  • @joshualucas It's a Kramer Ferrington

  • @alistar21 have since found this out and bought one!

  • are those girls zombies or what?? how do you NOT go crazy for these guys??

  • always the percussionist.. Paul! no drums, but he's clapping along and getting the audience into it! RIP Paul, wish i could have seen you play live, love!

  • @ramadarose41 me too !. i would have loved to have seen him live, and met him as well !. i saw crowded house live for the first time last year . they were fantastic !. i kept thinking about Paul the whole time though, and wondering what it would have been like if he had been there : ( .

  • their costumes being so very in tune with each other (one black shirt/blue jeans, one red shirt/ black pants, one black and red shirt and blue jeans), and all the giggling girls in the audience... OH so 80s! i love it!!! i love this video!

  • At the height of their powers...

  • Wow. This is amazing. Timeless.

  • seriously how lucky are those people to be that close to such an amazing band, maybe i'm just biased because ever since i could remember my mom has listened to them and crowded house and than got me hook. i think they and neil finn are completely talented, i love the harmonies!!

i love pauls silliness and how they all seem like they got along, like a bunch of silly brothers!!

  • i know, just to be in the same room with them, to shake their hands and thank them for the awesome music would be an amazing thing! sadly, they are a seriously underrated band in the U.S. i didn't even know most of their music until a few years ago because they were not played in America. UGH! stupid American media!!

  • i totally agree! so sad that paul passed away, i was so sad, and over in america i saw one thing that said he had passed away and thats alll!

i sometimes hear their more popular songs on the radio and a solo neil finn and get so excited but for their good stuff you have to search online :/

  • btw... have you seen the clips from their last concert together, "Farewell To The World" in Sydney? get the DVD if you're a fan; it is incredible, and Paul is hilarious!!

  • haha my mom got it, thats how we heard of the third song they're playing in this!

  • Better Be Home Soon! Great song!! my husband bought me the Farewell To The World DVD for Christmas this past year, knowing full well that I've got a huge crush on Neil Finn and his music! LOL that is one great concert, and I am saddened that I probably will never get to see them live. That being said, I'm so glad that i have the DVD, and youtube for the videos.

  • "give us Tina, one more time!" i love Paul Hester, and that concert was amazing! i'm a fan, and i've got it! lol i'm still saying to people, "ooooh allo, allo, allo, allo, allo!" all the time! freaks my co-workers out cuz they just don't know! haha

  • @gabey123 Those people? Oh you mean those 50 awkward looking 17 year old girls. :-)

  • hahaha they do look awkward and kind of bored...but still this is my favorite time of the band like the year and how they look! and the songs are amazing. i would of been completely stocked but i wasn't even born than haha

  • Well you just made me feel really old gabey123. :-) I agree with you your sentiments. This really was their favorite era for me as well. What's truly great how Crowded House's music appeals to people all over the world of all age groups. Their music truly is timeless and special in very rare way. Cheers from California

  • so great

  • oh oh oh their harmony during "Throw Your Arms Around Me" wow! brings tears to my eyes!! thanks again auspete!!!!

  • I love Neil's acoustic-electric guitar -- it sounds great and looks very cool. Anybody know the brand/model?

  • yup, it's a Kramer Ferrington standard. I don't the manufacturer exists now. Think it went broke. Anyway if you wanna try and find a 2nd hand one around thats what to look for.

  • Neil Finn - just 30 years old here but with already a backlog of great songs that would make most artists jealous with envy.

  • Thank You! I remember watching this on the factory...so great to see it again, I'll always miss Hessie...

  • Second verse of throw your arms = Always epic

  • Such great voices, harmonies, and playful energy. This is the first I've seen of these guys like this. Great video.

  • Fantastic-Still got such spirit.

What a great band, Miss you always Hessie. It's your shout for the coffee's.....

  • what an amazing voice Neil has, so beautiful, yet so sad sometimes. those guys didn't need any instruments but that guitar and their voices, such wonderfully incredible harmony. i'm always amazed watching this video at how talented they were.

  • i love this version, thanks for posting it Auspete! anyone else notice that callick on the back of Neil's head? a bit reminiscent of much earlier videos like Bold As Brass! LOL he has always been adorably cute, and he's only gotten better with age! :-) great song, great harmony... love you Paul, wish you were here.

  • versions of all songs, but i was speaking of Sister Madly in my post. ss for replying to my own post.

  • 28th March 2005 . . . the date I realised my husband cheated on me for the second (and final) time - the day that Paul Hester's death was announced on the TV too!

I was FAR MORE UPSET over the latter!

RIP Paul Hester, may you entertain the angels wherever you tread now!

    Ravenna xxxxx

  • Better be home soon was played without the bridge. (Dont say no, dont say nothings wrong....) Wow. They either forgot it or hadnt done that live before. You could tell they hadnt really rehearsed it a lot. Still sounded fantastic. Talented boys right there...

  • Hessie you mad bugger! sniff...

  • Excellent! These guys were great!

  • Wonderful :) Makes me so happy to watch this. Neil is beautiful. Wouldn´t mind meeting a guy with that kind of soulful eyes. Thank you for this!

  • I'm sure he would mind.

  • RIP Hessie.

  • hessie unzipping his jacket and finding his heart at the start of better be home soon !

  • Thanks a million for this posting. It is so great to see the guys in the debut? Neil says and here is the single from the new album... I am just smiling from ear to ear seeing this, and every time I see Paul, a tear comes to my eye... he was a real gem.

  • when it says factory it weren't the hacienda factory

  • Thanks! There's no-one like them!

  • look at the people in the background. they could smile a bit while the guys are singing. I would have

  • Poor old Paul Hester - he was so funny. RIP

  • Look at all the gormless teenage girls... Oh, hang on, they were my contemporaries! I probably had crushes on some of them.

  • Ha ha. It's hard to believe this is 20 years ago. What a great clip!

  • Sounds wonderful. I just wonder why didn't give an acoustic bass to Nick and a snare drum to Paul??

  • Perhaps they weren't set up for live performances? So one mike was the best they could manage? For the record, Neil has improved with age, but only because I've aged too and it would be weird to fancy this young lad. He could be David Tennant's Dad now :) Thanks for this clip - shows them as the true musicians they still are (RIP Paul)

  • top video esp with paul hester being the jovail man he was. love PH and miss him .Chouse not the same with out him

  • Haven't seen this before, sounds awesome! What great harmonies!

  • Yeah, Hessie was great with harmonies!

  • Fantastic! Such talented musicians. Love it! They are so good live.

Digging the awful hairstayles of the audience. Did we ever look good with those shaggy perms?! I think not!

They are all so young and cute. Just want to put Neil in my pocket and run away with him. He is still gorgoeous now though. :-)

  • Neil used to be so handsome :)

  • "USED TO"? He still is.....just older.

  • I didn´t say he isn´t handsome these days.

But fact is that he was much more handsome when he was young. All(well, almost all) people are more attractive when they´re young and beautiful :p So don´t panic.

  • Gotta disagree. Maybe cause I'm older, but I think he was at his best in his mid-forties. Same face but stronger. His voice got better and better too.

  • pity the same cant be said for the mullets and perms in the background

  • Those harmonies in the chorus of "Throw Your Arms Around Me" are mind blowing!! :)

  • @Markfly exactly what I was thinking, they could all sing, eh?

  • Awesome! Nick looks so uncomfortable w/out his bass :) cute!

  • voces cojonudas

  • god DAMN their harmonies are tight

  • Don't you agree, that almost every girl looks at Paul during Sister Madly? xD

  • Yes! Paul Hester had so much charisma.

  • i miss him.

  • This was great. I have been a fan since the early days but don't think I have ever heard Throw your arms around me. I could not imagine being that close to them and so calm???

  • great band, they always get the harmonies perfect. class act.

  • Thanks For Posting This! I LOve Crowded House! Their Voices sound SOOO GREAT!Great Harmonies...

  • Thanx for posting this early clip of Crowded House; performing at their best - when they're winging it! Puts a lump in my throat to see Paulo looking so relaxed and happy. Bless him.

    AliTwigg

  • This is great. Loved them since 87, but didn't see much footage back then, so thank you! P.S. Nick always has great style, but does anyone else think he looks like he's straight out of Bros?

  • It's funny to just see the girl-gallery just sitting there through BBHS 'cause they didn't know the words yet- you can't keep people from singing along to it now!

  • Vintiage Crowded House, absolutely brilliant! Those harmonies, wow.

  • Neil's voice is amazing in Throw Your Arms Around Me!

  • You must remember the audience members have the boys' backs to them so they're looking off to the side at monitors to get a decent look. Not very well directed, but hey that was '80s television!

  • @auspete yeah but they are looking at some really nice tushies! don't they get it?? LOL i actually got to meet Neil and Nick (as well as Matt and Mark) on Aug 4th when they came to Austin, TX. fortunately, i was in front of the stage and eventually got to see both sides of them! ;-) j/k they were incredibly nice and gracious, meeting fans and all. the show was amazing!! strange seeing this video now that i've met Neil and Nick; they were so young then... of course, so was i! lol

  • This audience could have gotten more into it. They look like a bunch corpes sitting there.

  • God! How young do they look there!

    Great video auspete :)

  • Sighhhh...Crowded Happy House--THANKS for great vid! : D

  • thanks for this great video :)

  • WOW, that is a fantastic video. Thank you sooooooooo much for posting. Crowded House was and still is amazing.

  • Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!! I remember this show. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. Such genius.

  • I like the way Neil has taped his strap to his guitar...

a bit of maintenance done by his good self?

  • Absolutely fantastic! Where did you dig this one up from. Great to see that the boys were as entertaining and talented in the good old days as they are now. Top marks.

  • Impressed that Neil kept it up with those two trying to make him laugh!

  • i always thought the 2nd song is a hunters and collectors song

  • Because it is H&C's song :)

  • crowded house are always good acoustic.

MTV unplugged is one that i still need to see

  • who cares about the teenage crowd in the background, just listen to some of the best singers to come out of australia, they performed with only a guitar and three great voices. MAGIC.

  • haha great clip... must say though, Nick looks... strange, I dunno, he just doesn't look... right? I think he might have a lot of make up on, or incredibly good skin.

  • First, why was the entire audience female? Maybe they were waiting for Bon Jovi or something... Plus, teens back then (or now for that matter) weren't particularly enamored with acoustic music.

  • Amazing performances and such emotional songs. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks, that's great!

  • OMG, those brats are SOOO distracting. Too ignorant to realize they were witnessing such greatness, I guess.

Awesome performance. Maybe we can edit the big-haired bored ones out somehow (?) ha ha

  • Just focus on Neil's red shirt and they magically disappear, try it, it works.

  • @auspete - or focus on Neil's amazing eyes and smile, Nick's kinda mistakes (new songs, as it were), and Paul's energy. you eventually can tune out all the big-haired spoiled 80s gals in the backround! LOL ;-) i've said it before, and i'll say it again, this is a wonderful video! can't wait to see them (minus Paul, sadly) live soon.

  • Thanks for posting tjhis. So young! And Hessie, so adorable!!

  • Did everybody look as bad these girls in the 80's?

  • Yes. Yes, we all looked that bad.

  • What was with the bored snotty teenage girls in the background?
