I can agree there is much wrong with HEU and LPN's are better off switching to BCNU. Doreen came to the same conclusion, after years of trying to make it work for us in HEU. I've worked with Doreen and know her to be respectful, honest and kind. She has a lot of knowledge and experience, and will stand up for herself and co-workers in a heartbeat- but you probably know that first hand. I don't see why you felt it was necessary to insult Doreen, when it's obvious that HEU is what you dislike.
@MrNurse4life Understand I know Doreen has given great service in the interest of members. We all make mistakes unforunately this error was significant. We all have conditioning and our own state of ignorance.Doreen made an assumption based upon sex.Once she did that she lost her objectivity and became incompetent to the task at hand, to my detriment. She was of course not the only player.

Doreen is an idiot.I walked away from my job because of her,an abusive boss who was later fired ,all the half wit co-workers and and dysfunctional estrogen types.

@bornburied I think I know you bornburied. Did you really walk away from your job, or were you yourself fired? And with an attitude like yours, it's easy to see why that would happen. Get a life, chump. Currently, there are over 5,000 LPN's who are HEU members- most of whom are women. Are you saying LPN's are half-wits? And do you think that because they are women, HEU members or both? I really don't see any shred of intelligence in your post.

Good for you Doreen! And thank you BCNU for responding to the MAJORITY of LPNs of British Columbia who want to belong to a PROFESSIONAL nurses union.
It is only the weak and insecure who attack an adversary in the classless manner found in some of these postings. The HEU showed it's true colours throughout this process and believe me, through all of their lies, mistruths and bullying, LPNs never wavered and signed their cards. I am SICK OF HEU LIES!
It is pitiful to see how many cowards there are hiding behind pseudonyms in order to slander and libel another. Ive watched HEU manipulate and control its members using lies, innuendo, bullying and outright threats. No matter what monies are being paid to Doreen, I am grateful she is willing to put up with this defamation in order to help raise LPNs up from the quagmire that is HEU. Thanks Doreen, and thanks BCNU. On to the Vote!!! Irene Cawson
I have watched Doreen at union conventions for years and years and heard her bad mouthing BCNU and how RN's treat LPN's. She has not even worked as an LPN for 15 years and has no idea anymore what it's like to be an LPN. She has no integrity and has proven that she swings whatever way benefits her. How much is BCNU paying her to sell out LPN's to a union that's going to treat them like dirt. They have their own agenda and it has nothing to do with LPN's and everything to do with saving RN jobs.
Doreen, thank you so much for everything you have done for us LPNs. I know you are getting the brunt of it from HEU but keep up the good work. Im so proud to have such a strong leader as you for us Nurses. Your partner would of been proud of you.
BCNU connives a backroom deal with the Liberal government and the Employers Association for a 10.5% backdated raise, after which the BCNU raids the HEU for LPNs.
Doreen - Whens it gonna stop?? wheres it gonna end???
OOOOOOOOHHHHH you look so TOUGH....You look so MEAN!!!
I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT,
I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT, I'M A RAT,
I am not an LPN or RN but I was a union organizer for many years. HEU, BCNU, BCGEU, HSA their all the same. Many workers need protection from their employers...especially when your employer is the Liberal Government.
Do you really believe you're going to get better representation from a union that has blatantly ignored orders to cease the raid?
Yes it's about dollars and protection...their dollars and protecting their dollars (that they've taken from you).
One thing that most of the people panning Doreen and BCNU are ignoring is when BCNU made the decision to help us out, in order to do so, they didnt use their RNs or PR people, they went to an educated, knowledgeable and caring LPN!
HEU has chosen to vilify this LPN for those very qualities.
I ask you, would you rather be in a union that appreciates you or a union that vilifies you for caring?
SHAME that Doreen Plouff is supporting this raid on the HEU, was she not one of the executive members, including HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnut, for a back room deal that screwed its brothers and sister of the HEU in 2004. CFNU wrote to BCNU president Debra McPherson, directing her to uphold both the CLC and CFNU constitutions by ceasing immediately there actions that are found to be raiding under the CLC constitution as per the ruling of CLC president Ken Georgetti.
How refreshing to see a union that values its own nurses and shows caring and respect toward all nurses. During nursing week, HEU provided bupkiss!
Lately HEUs style of caring is intimidation, harassment, bullying and threats. Read "Some of my reasons for choosing BCNU at the LPN Cafe under Politics.
In its desperation, HEU now applies this caring technique to other members not just LPNs. Is their new definition of solidarity Abuse for One, Abuse for All?
WOW donuts!!! Does it really make you more satisfied that BCNU brings you a donut and coffee when behind closed doors they are grieving their position that you are not qualified to work in immunization clinics?
I agree that there should be some language that prevents non nursing members from bumping LPNs that have professional growth and education in their classification. And we can work on that. So please, since your plan is to be a BCNU member anyway,(as a RN) don't cast a vote on my behalf.
Well donuts are certainly better than the wage cuts HEU gives out! Right now HEU LPNs are making less than we were in 2004.
Don't be fooled by HEU's lies. BCNU grievance isn't about who's qualified to work in immunization clinics. Their collective agreement says only BSN nurses can work in public health. now FHA says anyone can. Management breaks the agreement, they get a grievance. Simple.
At least BCNU is out defending their members rights. More than HEU does.
Oh..and when nurses week came along last spring (before all this union stuff happened), the HEU was NOWHERE to be found!!! BCNU was around, giving us donuts, thankyou's and information about free education. They treated the LPN's great, even though we were not even in their union. That speaks volumes.
I am an LPN on VAncouver Island, who is currently taking university electives, and am going to the RN program in 2010.
Go BCNU!!!! The HEU is a joke. ONe of the girls I work with got bumped by a fresh out of school LPN, even though she had been working full time hours as a casual at our hospital for over 5 years. Why? BEcause the new grad was in the union as a KITCHEN WORKER for 10 years. That's bullshit. BCNU WILL be our new union in 2010.
This happened to me as well last month. I am an LPN in northern BC for the past 2 years. A new LPN grad who had been working as a scheduling clerk applied for a position (even though she was not yet licensed, and was "working on her certification", according to my manager) applied for the same position as me, and with her 15 years of seniority from being a scheduling clerk got this job.It is so wrong! Thanks for nothing HEU.We NEVER hear from HEU unless we threaten to leave the union.
Thank you Doreen for having the intestinal fortitude to stand up to the bullies at HEU in order to fight for our rights. As a recipient of their bullying, I can attest to what you have had to endure. Keep up the good work and know that there are many of us out here who appreciate you and your work to bring us into the 21st Century.
It takes courage to step up and speak out and I think more of us have to do this. When has HEU ever done this until the BCNU offered LPNs associate membership. We didn't hear anything from them about making it better for LPNs in this province, until BCNU made the move. Come on LPNs out there, use some common sense, we need to work together and work with other nurses who know what we do out here. Lets work together with BCNU and get it done. Send in your card. We are nurses!
For us old HEU shopstewards who beat thier heads against the HEU wall at the local and provincial levels. This video is payback for all those LPNs in HEU who were marginalized by their own union.
I am an 18 year front line acute care LPN veteran. I watched her at Labor school and conventions in the 80s and 90s the only voice in huge auditorium, literally begging the executive to do something about the deletions of LPNs. They ignored her with a quick flippant comment and moved on to care aid issues. Members in the audience making comments about LPNs why bother", go with the dinosaurs" etc etc. As fledgling HEU shop steward I was mad as hell.
addendeum to my prev comment. I want to ensure there is no punitive action from our current union before i mail out. Prudence!! And FYI i have been a nurse in abdominal-thoracic surg for 7 years, since I was 22!
kfbb69 -- Doreen's no pioneer. She's a highly-paid BCNU staffer and took the job just weeks after being re-elected to the HEU executive. How's that for conviction?
lpncoach - LPNs are proud nurses right now. Getting drowned out by RNs in the BCNU is a ticket to nowhere for LPNs.
tricia581 -- I agree that most LPNs aren't rushing to join BCNU. But BCNU has spent too much money on this raid to quit, even if they think they're losing.
It is time for LPN's to be proud nurses by stepping into a bright new future. Thank you for making this video Doreen and all the hard work you are doing.

Thanks for pointing out BCNU garners raises from the government not rollbacks. Another reason to leave HEU and join BCNU!
Doreens look is one of concern for LPNs. HEU will never recognise or accomplish this look for a member.
Thank you, Doreen, for your courage to step up and give LPNs the opportunity to join a Professional Union thus gaining freedom from an oppressive one.
