  • Just saw some earlier comments... Guys, he stopped the song cos he snapped the high E string.

  • life by the drop is one of stevies best songs ever that always makes me cry it might be the best song in the world actually but one reason stevie was better and had a sound then everybody else was because he used heavy gauge strings and high action it's super hard to play guitar with heavy strings and high action so that help build his speed and technique and his high bends he hits sustain the way they do love srv he's the best miss him ..

  • The 8th deadly sin is definitely this song never having been finished during the recordings. how long does it take to fall in love with Stevie Ray Vaughan all over again? 1 minute and 39 seconds.

  • @mjollmrflag or who ever you are.... You need a life!

  • What a Supper sweet heart! So special..... He speaks to us forever!

  • he had such an underrated voice, I'm convinced we only heard 10% of what he could do. This was a few years before the unplugged thing became what it did, I heard Satriani was watching this set from the wings.

  • thanks you for posting accoustic live is rare much appreciated ! He is my favorite (~:

  • Yeah, it *IS* out of tune. I've been playing 12-string for fifty years, and it's OUT of tune. How do I know?....I've spent forty of those fifty years TUNING. Rock on, Stevie!

  • @Mjollnir50 I believe he tuned his Guitars differently to the normal way.

  • @oldfart4751 I believe he tunes a 1/2 step down or maybe even a full step down (~:

  • Wow, a voice just like the recording....

  • This song always chokes me up. Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful man! Love you Stevie!!!!

  • Because Stevie came out of it, and stopped playing this song.

He just laughted, and Jules said " Stevie gotta go catch an airplane, he`s out of here"

  • why only 1:39?! why?!

    oh well, short and beautiful.

  • Awesome,thanks for posting !!!

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan, we love you 10,000 times over. you can blow it all day long, we are right here with you diggin every minute.

  • Does anyone know how to play THIS version of life without you? i cant find a single video on youtube on how to play this version...

  • I guess that anyone can really play any version of Life Without you but only The Great Stevie Ray Vaughan.....we can just try......

  • I dont care if he blew it, he should have kept playin, it was beautiful

  • yahhh it was just gettin there too

  • It's not out of tune and no those are not electric guitar string, It's a 12 string guitar, they have a different abiet fuller sound. Play on brother, you are missed.

  • yea, big whop, everyone does that, shit happens, i think he had electric strings on that guitar, ive you have never put them on an acoustic, give it a try, you might like it. i wish i could have went to one of his shows!

  • nah man, thats a 12 string guitar...and hes never put electrics on an acoustic, you might be mistaking them with heavy gauge strings

  • i wish people that knew stevies material would make the comments. his guitar wasnt out of tune at all and he only played part of the song on the video because he only had 30minutes to do what he could. so no the words wasnt out of place at all. rip stevie

  • What did he blow? It was not the lyrics.

And I did not hear anything wrong with his playing other than maybe he was ABOUT to blow it.

  • Yeah i don't know, I think the part he plays right before "Fly on fly on..." is suppose to be played after, at the end of that verse on "live again love again...."

Just jumped ahead in the chord progression i think. But i wish he went on playing. such a beautiful song.

  • R.I.P stevie man your missed brother , great take of this thnaks for the load righton ^5

  • no, it isn´t a shame, everyone make mistakes and also srv makes.

    so stfu

  • dude chill...he meant that its a shame stevie didnt finish it because it was so beautiful

  • It's a shame he didn't get to finish this. It really is...

  • Big fan too, great clip, and yes, the guitar is slightly off tune on a couple of strings.

It can and has happened to the greatests.... :)

  • nah its not dude....stevie de-tunes his guitar on purpose....its a half step down, as he always plays

  • Oh and it's not rare either, it's MTV unplugged..

  • BHStar. You disagree that his guitar is badly out of tune? Share you knowledge with us oh slavish worshipper! Like I said, I'm a big SRV fan, but a spade is a spade. SRV would be the first to tell you that.

  • It's not out of tune, you're probably just not used to the sound of a 12-string..

  • and stevie always tunes half a step down

  • nah man, its tuned a half step down, not out of tune

  • @BHStar yes but MTV cut this

  • @guitarhacker01 i am looking for a long time for this, thats how rare it is

  • You sir, a an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • it doesn't sound out of tune to me

  • dios!. gracias.

  • Stevie totally out shined joe satriani on this performance.

  • yah satch litterally went on stage and said, and i quote "how am i supposed to compete with that"

  • screw john mayer, claims to be blues player, never will be more than rnb ballad shit

  • Right on

  • that's an ignorant statement desperado.

  • check out jake loggins from colorado springs.

  • Wow! Genius on a 12 string!

  • what did he say? he broke a string?

  • He said "Well I've Blown It"

  • Superrare? come on, i've got this whole concert for least 5 years or more.

SRV - the one and only!!!!

    The greatest ever!!!

  • where can i get it.

  • jimi hendrix

  • chek out john mayer, look further than his poppy stuff like your bodys a wonder land etc and listen to songs like gravity, man on the side(wer he plays the srv song lenny as the intro) and slow dancing in a burning room , srv was his main influence . peace . legalizeee da herb brother x

  • Stevie was a genius! Still is really! RIP STEVIE!

  • His voice is his best blues instrument.....

  • damn... couldnt have said it better.

  • i agree that his voice is phenomenal. that's what always gets me, especially with this song, as he hits all those half notes. he's beautiful.

  • more of this pleeeeeeeeeeese

  • its such a great performance and i love when he performs life by the drop on his 12 string if you have not heard of it please go check it out.

  • my father just passed away and me and him love stevie he is amazing musician and its a shame two great men are staring down at us rip dad and stevie always on my mind forever in my heart

  • I'm sorry to hear about that, it's always sad to lose a loved one, especially one that has good taste.

  • Speaking of pops, mine used to honestly know SRV and he said even though his career took off like lightning the guy was still as down to earth as any man. Pops cried the day SRV died, pretty sure that was the only time I can remember him doing that. I still remember him cranking it to 11 to some old bootleg recordings he had. Wish I would have talked to the man more, back then he was just another of pops friends who jammed. It took years for me to realize how many people really loved him.

  • Stevie was one of those kind of dudes that just are meant to brush our heart & soul but for an instant and them fly on.

Bless ya dude, for all those you have influenced and inspired to live life to the fullest.

  • You said it "True"...

  • I first heard Stevie from my grandfather...he was dying. The song was life by the drop.....was terrible times for me. But to listen to him play made the world a better place to me....SRV is a legend >>>>always will be

  • please someone tell me he did do it again...and please someone tell me where i can get it!!

  • Unfortunately Stevie only attempted it once. He then went on to play Testify which was his last song he played. He was supposed to play a jam with Joe Satriani at the end but Stevie had to go early. That would have been really cool to seem them too play. But at least all of Stevie's performances are on here!

  • Where is the rest of this set. It was the standard for all the rest. It was the stat of the era of unplugged.

  • I recently bought the Stevie Ray Vaughan Pride and Joy DVD, which is excellent by the way, but it has bunch of his music videos to songs like change it, couldnt stand the weather, and superstition, but it also has the MTV unplugged session on there and he performs pride and joy, testify, and rude mood, but i suggest you buy it, its well worth it :)

  • It's moments like this that makes me glad

pencils have erasers. But I'm REALLY glad that this did'nt get erased. Thanks Stevie for keeping it real. Please Never unplug this post!

  • The guitar isn't mic'd very well. I don't like the sound of it at all.

But the man was a great guitarist..

  • I have been looking for this for 18 years give or take! Thank you for a great post.

  • It's fun watching Stevie play Unplugged. Makes it sound just like he's playing an electric. It's a shame he messed up but being Stevie he always found a way to make it fun and enjoyable. I would have loved to see him do the song again because I love the song, especially when he makes his speech half way through. R.I.P. Stevie, there will never be another one like you!!!!!

  • Had to be a hard song for him to perform at such a personal level.

    I miss him.

  • I don't understand how he had "blown it". Other than skipping over the solo, which he could have made up for later. The lyrics are whatever he wants to sing; it is his song.

  • Stevie lives on forever!!!!!!!!!

  • love ya stevie

  • I think he probally quite because his guitar was a little out of tune, and then he messed up the lyrics.

Excellent outtake, and I, for one, am glad to hear this song in it's acoustic version.

  • Er, quit^. Not "quite"

  • What did he say at the end? Did he mess up or something?

  • He said "well I've blown it ".He screwed up the lyrics .Proof even the best make mistakes .

  • ah alright, thanks for the clarification.

  • haha...stevie

  • did he mess it up? ive seen him mess up words or miss notes but he always carried on and didn't stop completely i guess when its just acoustic its harder.

  • not to mention 12 string! have you ever tried picking on one of those? very difficult.

  • dude i can rude mood my 12 string

  • Respect to you for that. I MIGHT be able to Rude Mood on a 6 if I really tried. I have 12 string acoustic and I should think Rude Mood would be very hard on that.

  • Everybody makes mistakes! lol. thanks for posting. Always great to hear Stevie.

  • oh man so good, shame there isnt a longer vid of this song during this session, kinda weird though since they have taped all songs there

  • Oh I love this...what a great ending. Wish there was more...

  • Man, I was 11 when I watched this on TV- this is when I first remember seeing Stevie. If I'm not mistaken the Black Crowes had also been on, as well as Tesla.

  • I Love This Video The Out Take Is Very Bad

  • Ahhhhhhhhhh, why is this so SHORT????? :(

  • I didn't know there was video for this!

  • Awesome man, thanks for posting it :) Make sure it returns if they take it down again ;)

  • Super Rare. Don't let it be deleted!

  • Amazing....

  • atta boy..hopefully they wont catch it and make you remove it for copyright infringment like they did me when I put it up.

  • its back
