  • This guy worked on the A-Team.

  • i'm watchin this video now maybe 100 times over the last half year :D and everytime i decide to make one like this for my own :D but shame on me, didnt do it yet.

but i will :D this is brilliant :D

  • whats up with the music haha

  • Looks great - very clever use of kitchen based items. I reckon you could use this on set. There's a lot of snobbery when it comes to film making equipment. In my opinion if it does the job, doesn't fall apart, doesn't wobble or screw up the shot then what's the problem with using DIY rigs? - I watched a professional shoot not so long ago where the camera crew used a home-made camera slider. All they did was spray it up satin black. It worked as well as any pro built rig.

  • if you want something funny to laugh at search shoulder rigs for 1100D, then laugh at them for being noobs

  • Pfft... McGuyver could have made it with some floss and a pez dispenser.

  • nice job :)

  • This is very difficult to do even with the right tools. I do alot of craftsman hobby work and my rig looks very DIY. Spent maybe $50 ($20 for the cutting board, $25 for the tubing,) and 4 hours labor, and got something that canot be usedon a "professional" set.

  • nice rig, but the video isn't that informative...

  • very very good job

  • How about I pay you to make me another one of these ;)

  • film riot one is better

  • wish I have those tools.

  • At first I was like "pfft, my dad is an airline mechanic. I'm sure I'll have all the tools."

But then I was like, a fucking milling machine? In my garage? wtf -.-

an auto sideways saw blade thing?

A super auto sideways sandpaper treadmill?

  • neat. very annoying soundtrack though.

  • Very smart. Thanks.

  • Impressive. Most impressive.

  • great job..

  • lol wat?

  • great!

  • now all I need is $5000 in shop tools to save a few hundred on buying one of these myself

  • @JYvideographyNYC you don't have to use the shop tools, u could easily replicate this with a hand drill with metal augers, sand paper, hack saw, knife, protractor, ruler and a vice.

  • Awesome but the tools are not so cheap xD

  • AWESOME lol

  • This must be the coolest video that I've seen on Youtube in a while....nice!

  • How much did it cost you to build it?

  • wow cool so professional. if you have the right tools, the job is a lot easier!

  • I've shot a lot on DSLR and for me, although this has been brilliantly made, this design is practically useless. You need both hands on the camera controls at all times, so the handgrips are redundant (and get in the way in confined spaces like cars) and the back weight can also catch against things you aren't aware of behind you. What is absolutely vital, I have found, is a chest brace, to support the weight of the camera rig, leaving your hands free to use the camera controls.

  • looks like a shoulder shot gun.

much cheaper to buy if you do not have those tools he used for creating a mount.

nevertheless, i like you video tutorial.

  • What's that thing attached to the screen?

  • where did you get the holders?

  • PLEASE NOTE: This DIY cheap rig, Does NOT come with Workshop or Camera,so pretty bu**ered really.. :o)

    ...Other than that nice rig..

  • This is AMAZING!

  • Love DIY videos only when they have have full instructions posted.... looks good though

  • @briggs9187 he has full written instructions on his site. just look up ikea shoulder mount on google

  • @shapeworkstudios1 awesome, thanks... I really like it and looks like a pro piece of equipment ... I will try to make one too...thanks again

  • @briggs9187 no problem. I love it too. I REALLY wish I could build it, but i can't... I don't have access too (or can afford) the equipment to make it, and I'm also 13.... so... ya... tell me how it turns out!!

  • what's that viewfinder piece? I really need to get one of those.

  • @Eviktion I think it's called Viewfinder Loupes.

  • @Eviktion I called a Zacuto ZFinder. It's great, but pricey. If your not ready to spend $400 on a LCD Viewfinder, there a tons of knock-offs available on Ebay, Amazon, etc. Look up LCDVF, or Carry Speed.

  • This design is the best iv'e seen. I was just wondering if you could tell me what type of deck is the slider? thanks.

  • really love the design. going to be a while before I can build one, test and review it, but I have to saw this is the best design I have yet seen, that still looks professional. What Dia. of tube did you use?

  • fake.

  • can you make me one , ad i will pay you half the going rate for a zachuto?

  • :| dude wtf you're a pro, normal people can't do this xD

  • How thick is the cutting borad?

  • can you provide the dimensions?

  • '

    nice homemade videocamera shoulder mount,,,

but i dont like this video is too much cut cut cut edit video, fast move zoom in / out

  • me like.....

  • Managed to source Black Cutting Board ( like hens teeth) and added a top rail .. have a look... Vid responce

  • Cool idea! Thanks for recording vid

  • you no idea how much time I spent looking for cutting boards

    zbDnJZv-ZUY&feature=youtu.be

    Its like an addiction

  • really good editing, well done, these things always look so complicated, but that takes me a step closer...i think.

  • wow you made this way more epic than it needed to be... :D

  • This would be very helpful if I had access to all those tools, but unfortunately I don't. Cool rig though.

  • Brilliant!

  • cheap considering i have a full workshop but awesome diy nonetheless

  • Looks badass, where do you put the ammo :D

  • @TheJamieBellinger it's just soft plastic

  • i kinda like how the song fits the video. nice DIY stuff btw !

  • Ikea discontinued this cutting board

  • @camonwheelz I found the equivalent one on Amazon under Architec Original Gripper Cutting Board (14 x 11 x 0.5 inches)

  • I found the equivalent on Amazon under Architec Original Gripper Cutting Board (14 x 11 x 0.5 inches) for $15

  • sell me one of those!..

  • Thats awesome

  • Thanks Cris; I was sparked into a copy job as soon as I saw this: pure genius... I had to make 1 Thanks again......

  • F***ING BRILLIANT! :D

Gotta remember this, I made mine in aluminum and stainless steel. And had to sew a custom sholder support. It got very fancy, but your´s so smart and very goodlooking! Thumbs up! Gotta buy me a cuttingboard. Or skärbräda as we say in Sweden. ;)

  • I admire people that knackle together their own rigs rather than forking out hundreds on well machined pieces of metal.

However, while I'm glad to see NIN replacing your original choice of track, your lack of A-Team music disappoints me.

    (' *,)

  • cool!!! if you have a camera with a flipping lcd, you could do it with just two pipes! you are ingenous!!

  • although I don't know you at all, I love everything about you...

  • Comment removed

  • you are a genius

  • you have a dream work place there mate.

  • DIY in case you spended a lot of money in great tools and machinery. If not, is cheaper buy one :)

  • wow no iphone playback .. ah man... that sucks

  • @silopup iPhone sucks. But RIP Steve Jobs.

  • Hey again... once again thx for the tutorial. I finished my version now, and I just wanted to tip you off regarding the counterweight thing.

If you go to dvxuser dot com and search for "ikea shouldermount done", I've put a photo and a short description up. It turned out to be a really simple and slideable counterweight that is adjustable / removable with a screwdriver.

  • your stove has can emit so much heat to melt metal where you can bend with your bare hand !!!

  • FK me in the face..why didnt i think of this? ive been working in IKEA for 1 year now. great man..thx soooooo much

  • I read in your blog that you were still thinking about how to counter weight the mount. Well, I found this guy and while I like your design better, I kinda like the simplicity of his counter weight:

    brasswidow dot blogspot dot com

In his case he uses a weight from a dumbell, but I guess it could be anything flat and heavy. Then put a baseplate beneath the counter weight, a washer wide enough to cover the whole of the weight and then tighten it through with a screw.

  • @flicebaby I ended up using a set of ankle weights. they slip on easy and are held in place with a couple of cutting board pieces.

  • Comment removed

  • @kimandcris Nice idea... sounds like they are easy to apply and take off when needed. I did the base plate with a hexagon plate beneath it, to go from shoulder to tripod in an instant. However my idea of counterweight (1kg dumbell weight) forces me to bring out screw drivers etc to dismount it. Think I'll go with your idea instead :)

  • @kimandcris Hey there! I've been testing out the rig you sent me, and it's still working perfectly. I did the exact same thing. I had ankle weight that I velcroed on the back part of the shoulder padding. Stays on there just fine.

  • @mark84j awesome news!

  • @kimandcris Thats what i ended up doing for my Red Star DSLR Shoulder mount kit! Yay for Ghetto rigging!

  • Could you post some shots done with this rig? I see you posted this a couple of months ago, so was thinking that you might have had a chance to experience how it works. Is it ok on the shoulder? How about placement of camera according to should placement, no need to twist your back or torso to view properly?

And last, could this specific setup in your oppinion handle a 70-200?

    Thank you :)

  • @leGrevePhotography I filmed the Ticketstock video using this mount. It worked out great. I don't see why the 70-200 would be a problem, but you probably would want to mount it to the lens and not the camera? I've still only got the 24-105

  • @kimandcris Thanks for replying :) It looks good, I finished my rig yesterday and did some playing around. I'm quite impressed with the quality of it. I tried putting on the 70-200 and the only things I noticed is that I probably placed the hole in the base plate a bit too far to the right as my battery pack was kinda resting on the left most of the long rails. And of course.... it's heavy xD But apart from that I'm happy as a clam hehe thx for sharing this build :)

  • I'm thinking about making these for sale--just made my first one. I'm trying to improve my first attempt. Anyone interested in one?

  • i love your workshop!!!!!

  • I want your garage dude! :D

  • really great job. love it!

  • ill buy this from you

  • I love it... you spend all that dough on the Zacutyourbankbalance magnifier and you low ball the shoulder mount. I wish that so many people didn't feel the need to gouge on the price of things. GREAT JOB on your shoulder mount. I did something with a bogen magic arm and some aluminum strap and padding and it works great!

  • @TnTOutfitters its about what i could build and what I couldn't really. Optics are not my thing, but making a simplebrace that looks professional enough was within reach, For $300 I could have both.

  • Wow dude thats freaking amazing.

  • Can't you make one and sell it to me please?

  • @oliverhshow you are in luck. I listed one on Ebay about a week ago. It ends tomorrow.

  • @kimandcris do you have a link??? sorry, it's too late..

  • @kimandcris did you list one the other day i saw a bid for one looked just like this and buy now price was like $240 or somthin

  • @dobunz wow -no. I onlymade two extra ones and they both sold for $150. It's way cheaper to build yourself if you can.

  • do you have a blue print for this build?

  • @SemiAwesomeFilms sort of - follow the link in the comments and you will find the parts diagram.

  • WOW this is great Love it.

  • hey there.. I was just wondering how u attached the baseplate? did u just screw it into the rods ? or what did u do..

  • @oxzanofilms yes -thats exactly how I did it!

  • @oxzanofilms yes -thats exactly how I did it!

  • now this is more like it i wish i could buy this

  • Why not build your own car & house too?? This is goofy....and most people don't have the equipment or skills to do this.

Make more money and you can just buy whatever you want.

  • Best DIY i Have seen in a long time! I have quite a but if DIY rigs and this one is so good because it looks so pro! Check out my stuff at dot vimeo dot com slash justbasl

  • Cool rig! Could you add it to the website rigsenvy.com ? It is a repository of all HDSLR rigs!

  • @Canon5dTips thanks! I'll check it out :)

  • I been searching all over the freaking internet for this. I like the video whish you were able to work through each part of the build carefully. I dont have those tools, but I want to know can you show and example of a shoulder mount that can be used for a nikon d7000, and a sony hdr-fx1000 handy cam camcorder where you would be able to ad a lcd screen on it.

  • @lamar923 yes I know- I didn't realize it would be quite so popular - but I think a a d7000 would be pretty much the same. I also wish I had filmed more of the build, but filming and operating the tools safely was difficult. thanks for the nice words everyone :)

  • Cool rig, but the track is just as cool. Man, I can't find THIS version... all the Aggro mixes are different... not the same as this. Anyone can help?

  • @atteela81 this version was one of Youtube's "suggested" tracks when they wouldn't let me have my depeche mode track... the BPM must be very similar if not the same. google youtube to mp3 for finding the exact track ;)

  • @atteela81 ...just realized that you are looking for Depeche Mode. Warner and Youtube put the kybosh on my DM track - so this one is one of they ones they let you replace your music with, It is NIN 24 Ghosts III.

  • @kimandcris Perfect, my friend, I was able to find it! THX!

  • Do you have a website with instructions?

  • @MrPatrickCasey yes- I just made this page yesterday in fact. good timing :)

    kimncris.com/tutorials/ikea.php

  • Best DIY rig ever!

  • fair play!

  • That is a great and inventive rig! Really creative, man! Love it!

  • Do you have any details on the pipe? Diameter, where you got it, etc?

  • @JaxieStax I got the aluminum tubing at Industrial Metal Supply in Burbank. the OD is 5/8". I used this because it was already in my garage left over from a previous project. you could use the LANSA stainless steel drawer handles they have at Ikea as an alternative- I almost used them in fact. they are also cheap and come in a variety of lengths. they are 1/2" OD

  • Thank you for the fast reply.

  • yes i will probably use the plastic for the ribs of a cage idea i was thinking of making ( gotten to close to hurting my camera more than once) similar to cpm film tools cage. i will post a video if i make it !

  • simply the best!

  • amazing!!!! i have been trying to make diy rigs for months now and never satisfied, i was always trying to use aluminum and other materials but i think using this as the main material will make it perfect!! thanks

  • @VanderKwaakFILMS thanks :) aluminum is definitely awesome, but you can't beat plastic for being cheap and easy to work with!
