Great fun, Jane Austin is a classic and even in my young care free days i used to sit down on my bed of linon, light my candle and relax to the suttle words of jane Austin>

Well, actually, in S & S 2008 - scene with Edward and the axe is my favourite between him and Elinor. Finally he's a man with powerful feelings. He can't say them outloud but he expresses it so clearly. I can almost touch his pain. Dan Stevens is the best Edward, Hugh was too delicate for it. Mr Davies, you're an amazing writer.
I started cracking up when he said, "splendidly manly" and went on the the manly explanation. And stroke her feathers, lmfao. This is hilarious for a run of the mill american like me.
@Tom235863 Ok, three things. One, report me for being sarcastic. Two, I was being serious your "Laugh Mary Andy Omego" really did make me laugh and it was better then what LMAO actually stands for, and three get a life. Why attack me for something I DID NOT MAKE UP and I didn't even say LMAO to you! I commented on someone else 7 FUCKING MONTHS AGO! Get friends and get a life.
i find it not nice to include a bit of sex scene on the first part of the new adaption of S & S..
i like the 1995 version of S&S better..i also like P & P 2005..then Emma 1996..Northanger Abbey 2007 (i think it was) and lastly Persuasion 1995 version --- they always make me feel so in love after watching them without any impure thoughts in my head..except the sweet and tender kiss shared usually at the end of the story *sigh*..but i hardly would call that impure ~_^
bless you andrew davies. swimming and chopping wood in the rain? i don't care if he's not always completely loyal to the books, he makes them into fantastic movies.
Intelligent women, yea, thats sexy... it doesn't do her any good if half her face was melted off, she could be as intelligent as she wants,I wouldn't hit it. She'd be crying "Waaaaa... E=mc.squared... waaaaaa..." *Burmese voice from "Dodgeball"*
You, movies would not be interesting if they followed the novel exactly. It actually makes the movie less interesting because there are just somethings that are not necessary in a movie.
And, let's face, who wants to watch a 6 hour long movie or watch a mini series every time they turn a book into a movie?
I like the '95 P&P adaptation, but what the dickens happened to the new ones? If Davies wrote the script, I must say he quite disappointed me to say the least. Was he the one who dumbed down Austen into stupid lines and sex scenes? Sorry, but Davies quite underestimates Jane Austen fans. Frankly, I don't think this chap quite gets it. The new adaptations don't hold a candle to the older ones, besides being all boring rot.
(So, there you were, minding your own business, when you get an email saying someone replied to a comment you made 3 weeks before..lol)"
Make that 5 months! I had an awful time at the dentist today and was in pain, and your offhand remark made it possible for me to forget it entirely! Thank you for pointing me in the direction of that wonderful adaption. I didn't even know of its existence before tonight. :D

What is the movie at 0:22 and 1:46? I've never seen them. I'd love to know!!!
sparklebeautiful 2 years ago
At 0:22 it's the version of Emma with Kate Beckinsale and the 2 secs of a girl reading a red book is Northanger Abbey.
At 1:46 it's the latest Sense and Sensibility.
The three of them are great, so please, watch :)

Movies adapted from the works of Jane Austen are beautiful.
But for a literary critic is important the fidelity of the film in relation to the book.
The critic not has the same vision that the public has of movie.

I know! Went so gooey inside just thinking about Colonel Brandon or any of Austen's "manly" men stroking MY feathers.....
Pure and unadulterated fantasy for women......
*coos and melts.

When is swimming just a manly thing? Sure for that time period maybe, but come on, a lot of women swim now!
smilinfish21 3 years ago
What is this??
Stroke her feathers?
Would Jane Austen approve of her female characters being compared to bird?
I will continue to enjoy the original movie versions since they're stay true to Austen's novels.
