Thats got to be so fucking confusing.. its a normal fastball spinning to the right.. but curves to the LEFT.. if it curves to the right it should be curving to the right.. So thats 3 different factors that fucks you up on that pitch
DAMN!!!! he has a cannon for an arm! I would kill if I could throw like that! but in high school I was a mediocre pitcher......oh well I was always much better at Hockey than baeseball anyways
dice-k really isn't THAT hard a thrower, i thought he was before but he's smart in that his fast ranges from 89-95, with it mostly being 91-93, that good but not consistent mid upper 90s fastball
89-95 is very hard. You obviously never played higher baseball. you have to start your swing early.. that pitch was more of a slider: the batter started his swing thinking it was a fastball then he got tied up because the pitch cut in on him. "91-93 isnt that hard!" do us all a favor and shut up, please.
when people are sayin he throws consistent mid nineties, thats bullshit like you are saying, 91-93 is of course good velocity, but its nothing like the 96-97 CONSISTENTLY of josh beckett
I don't know why we are talking about the velocity of his pitches.. This segment was aimed at the batters 'check swing'.. and btw.. throwing hard doesnt mean shit if you can locate on the corners.
i know, obviously, i know a lot about pitching, but throwing hard means a shit load when you do locate on the corners, it becomes overpowering a la pedro martinez 1999-2000, his strikeout to walk ratios were incredible, i do know that location is more important, because beckett got smashed last year when he threw 97 down the middle, but where has dice-k's changeup gone?
The Gyroball isn't that hard to learn. A lot of Australian and English players have it, and took it to Japan (there are quite a few Aussie pitchers in Japan) the reason is that Aussie's and Brits grow up playing Cricket and switch to Baseball. The release for a Gyroball is the same as a 'yorker' in cricket.
its been well described as a spiral rotation on the ball. imagine after you throw it, that its a clock. it spins clockwise, on a slight axis... amazing pitch. LOLAZNZ!
not a slider. check out how the hand's pulling down on the ball, giving a "bullet-like" spin. whether it was on purpose or not, that's a gyroball, and it's basically a sneaky 2-seamer. nothing revolutionary, but still cool.
yeah..you may be right but its not a sweet new ball that does a bunch of crazy shit like these baseball scientists are sayin..this pitch is a bunch of talk and its really just a pitch thats always been out there but they gave it a new name
It hasn't always been out there. At least not on purpose, occasionally a few pitchers' fastball grip would cause the occasional gyroball-spin (see Martinez, Pedro). It behaves like a cut or two-seam fastball, but looks like a change-up. not a bugs bunny pitch, but basically a tricky sinking FB.
what are you talking about? i said it was the exact pitch thats been out forever just with a new name. its a slider.WOW! thats like me throwing a curve and being like ' wow. im gonna say this is a new pitch.ill call it the cheese ball' its nothing new. alot of hype over nothing.

gyroball is basically an inside curveball to a lefty and an outside curveball to a righty

his hands didn't flick like a slider. It they didn't snap forward like a 12:6 curve. If its not a gyro ball then what is it.

It's a slider with cut spin. If you can balance the two, you'll have a gyroball.

when someone throws as hard as he does you have to start your swing early. he was fooled on the pitch and tried to check his swing, tool.
