Some mobile phones are waterproof, even in the high-specifications segment.

Some newer models allow the user to watch movies and/or television. Most phones can be connected to the Internet through services such as i-mode. Japan was also the first to launch 3G services on a large scale. Users can browse text-only Internet sites, and many Japanese sites have sub-sites designed especially for cellular phone users.

In recent years, some cellular phones even have the capability of being used as debit or credit cards and can be swiped through most checkout lines to buy products as varied as mascara and jet planes, as more and more companies offer catalogs for cell phones. These functionalities include:

E-money service and various certification functions through Untouched IC card (FeliCa etc.)

  • @jessiejanesama All that's very lovely, but you DO know that American cellphones can do that too, right? My cellphone does all of that.. It can even be used as a debit card, just like Japanese phones can. I just choose not to use it, because what's a fourteen year old doing with a debit card? So yeah...

  • lol, I love people on pre-iphone youtube videos saying things like: "these phones are so lame, we have the iphone/android in US!" I use an iphone, but Japan's phone nowadays (checkout the new 2012 lines) make me green with envy! >_< but they are so anal about staying exclusive to their japanese market it's almost impossible to get them (to function) here!

  • You have convinced me of that I need a new phone.

  • fuck this GO ANDROID!!!

  • @bobmonkey025 the japanese have android phones now... this was made 4 years ago...

  • oh god i had red phone in 2006 wow

  • these phones looks crap

  • @MrJudas666666

appearance wise they're ok, but the features of these phones are freaking awesome. u can use it as a credit car, email, internet, tv, mp3, pay your bills through phone. ect.

  • @jessiejanesama ...And can you not do that on an American phone? I'm confused..

  • @Meligikuo3o

u can't use ur phone as a credit card to swipe it on the counter. you can't read anime, watch telly channels. some stuffs that i don't know. go search japanese phones in wikipedia. they have all the features in the phones and some more that's not in wiki.

  • @jessiejanesama The only thing you can't do is use your phone as a credit card, which is really stupid in the first place. Totally unsafe, no matter how secure they try and make it. I can do pretty much all you've just said on my current phone now, soo.. they're not superior at all.

  • @Meligikuo3o

    Here's all the features.

    E-mail

    Configurable Databases

    Phone and address books

    Alarm clocks and stopwatches

    Live Video feed via Piconet

Mobile games, such as role-playing games like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy series

  • what type of phine was the green one at 0:35? green is my favorite color

  • lately i've been craving to get one of those thin and long japanese flip phones with the sharp corners for some reason lol

  • @ProjectILT i know right!!! why they arent popular here is odd.

  • @PhilipEWarren because those phone are weird. it's a different culture man.

  • @therealestmc85 how is it weird? flip phones used to be all you could get. also, its easier to on a number pad in japanese.

  • Comment removed

  • I'd love to buy one but, for some reason japanese phones are sky high even though their characteristics are low.

  • Japan is best of teqnology. Japan have not the best ARMY but they are one of the best armies in the world

  • 4 more years and i get one! >.< ughhh but its so worth the wait!

  • this phone will not stop my stone club from bashing it into a million pieces still

  • @poulet16bits what is the model of that sony at 1:40

  • What's that Sony at 1:50? What model is it?

  • Number 1 Phone.. SHARP (Japan) no wonder you cant buy it outside Japan

Number 2 Phone.. Samsung Anycall.. you can only buy these models in Korea

THATS IT!.. IM THROWING MY iPHONE.... sorry OTOUSAN.

  • I wonder if I am even getting past the starting process when it comes to the fact that everything on the cell phone I am going to buy is pure Japanese. >.< *self teaching japanese*

  • Tu video tonto no tiene audio, asi no sirve de nada

  • None of these are very impressive. The screen resolution on all of these are horrible and cheap looking, and the only 'innovative' parts were putting lights on the outside or making a funky charging station. laaaaame.

  • @phillybob233 this video from 2007. stop comparing with latest phone

  • @noob4ever88 dude what are you talking about. America's phones can't even beat the phones from 2007 S Korea.

  • @phillybob233 all these old cell phone in this video are 100x better then all the 3 phones ive had in the last 5 years. stop making excuses. you know Japanese phones will always be better than any phone in America. why not watch a more recent video on Japanese cells phone.

  • japan is simple more imaginative and more bold with implementing technologies. america although will get any chance to sue someone for just about anything. you just cant do this shit in america.

  • 古そう

  • @StealthedHell

Elephants have bigger dicks. I guess they are superior too, huh? You are a dumb, inferior N36r0!

  • Smart Phones own the old flip Japanese Phones. The reason Japan hates Smart Phones is because they never never popularized it, so they disdain it. It's like with Video Games. Anything that is not Japanese, they will hate on it. The funny thing is most of their technology and culture are taken from other civilizations. Japanese people are the biggest hypocrites in the world!

  • @flipwarrior Hahahahah! You sir are closed minded. The iPhone was well accepted when it was launched in Japan. Japanese phones are popular in japan because they like these phones that way and in addition, they actually know what features are useful in the real world like how they use those phones as swipe cards in train stations. Not just facebook and multi-touch.

Not everyone needs a smart phone. I still have my Samsung M3510 and it does what a cellphone should do and nothing else.

  • @mondeost2202008 So true, this is why I'm going to sell my Nokia X6 soon and buy a REAL PHONE :) . Japanese phones are the most unique mobiles in the world I bet.

  • @flipwarrior YOUR SO RUDE MY DAD WORKS FOR DOCOMO! You make us sound horrible >.< Your NOT japanese by the sound of it which means YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY WHAT TYPE OF PEOPLE WE ARE. Japanese people are actually quite welcoming to foreign things and people. Plus our technology is much more advanced than america therefore why would we want to take something that's not as high in tech than our own items? And if we were taking things why would it be that our economy is more stable than America's?

  • Why are all the pohones flip phones

  • 1:48 I thought that was a cell phone with a flask for holding liquor at first lol

  • The green one reminds me as a gameboy sp

  • 2:00 My phone ;D

  • these are all old phones....my nokia that i bought 3 years ago is wayyy better! go FINLAND NOKIA

  • To be exact, Japan leads in world PRODUCTION technology, I have seen much more theoretical and advanced technology created in America, mostly universities at that. The most advanced technology I have seen in Japan doesn't compare to some of the modular machines or biotech being tested here. But to be honest, most Americans seem like idiots, and so does most of the world.

  • @CrazyMonkey124 ok wat's up with da diss

  • @facebooker121 Not really dissing them, just pointing out the fact that Japan may be a world tech leader, but it doesn't rule some of us out. I don't mind thinking they are the best in general, but as long as everyone knows there are exceptions.

  • @CrazyMonkey124 actually that is quite true although i still believe that japan is best but this is a very proud japanese speaking so its quite natural for me to think that way LOL

  • Yeah, don't get me wrong, you guys have some crazy stuff. There are quite a bit of things which countries of the world have developed that far surpass Japanese technology. Granted, most people will never notice this because these thing are not commercialized and are for people who work in such fields. "Plus our technology is much more advanced...", that is the sort of thing I am talking about, I haven't seen any complex devices in Japan on my visits. Let me start off in another comment.

  • @BubbleTeaCrazed215 Continued...What I have seen in Japan is what can be achieved easily, but unlike the rest of the world, Japan has embraced electronics far more and these things are far more popular. Basically, yes, Japan has a lot of economic technology which surpasses other countries, but in terms of research and the frontiers of technology, Japan is no different from other first world countries. I have seen more advancements elsewhere, but I have seen much more implementations in Japan.

  • @CrazyMonkey124 LOL thank you :) <-- proud japanese

  • japanese phones are actually the best to use.but for some people, too complex and too high tech.

  • @TheTheAdgjl13579

    are you stupid?

  • theres 2 things i dont like about Japanese phones 1. there are alot of flip phones 2.there cameras on the phone arent very good other than that the designs are great really kewl

  • I herd that you get perfect quality even if your in an underground parking complex 0_0

  • yeah the japs may have good technology, but us, the Norwegians, we still got godzilla!

  • I have that first vodafone sitting around. Anyone want to buy it?

  • japan rules when it comes to technology

  • @MsTormented so thats why iphone is the best phone? lol

  • Based on what criteria?

The iphone is a normal phone with a touchscreen. Its popular because of its ease of use.

  • @MsTormented

Japan rules when it comes to science in general...:P

  • @MsTormented

    Mhm^^ and there cars :D

  • @MsTormented thought it wz chinez

  • @MsTormented not true. most japanese phones are only feature phones. what japanese people want int their phone is much different than what americans want. we get the stuff japan gets around the same time anyway.

  • Does anyone know where I order these online?

  • don't bother order one, they dont work outside japan and insteed of sms they send free E-mails with their phones

  • no its japan -^.^-

  • No Japan leads the world in Electronic technology.

  • Yeah. Japan does.

  • ? i was replying to a comment, I already knew that.

  • no, in fact he is kinda right, some japan products are tested in the south korean market couse is cheaper, publicity is really expensive in japan so theu introduce some things before in south korea. you can find some of the newest japan products in korea before they reach the japan market

  • @quatlen Silicon Valley leads the world in electronic technology.

  • @TheApple128k I read a report 9 months ago that said Japan currently does but that obviously doesn't mean I'm correct.

as japanese user's point of view it's can't be sophistecated in aspect of function etc....

  • these are old jpn cellphones check out the ones now, they rock every cellphone in this world!

    ntt docomo

    softbank

    carry the best phones

  • What is this guy talking about. Japan > South Korea. Sony is the leader.

  • no actually samsung beat sony about 4 years ago for the number 1 electronic.

  • @omgitshenry lol sony sucks they are prob going to go bankrupt in 5 years

  • @omgitshenry in terms of sales, hell yes Sony pwns. But in terms of new technology, real 4G, and better apps, Japan wins.

  • @omgitshenry Japan>South Korea? put something like Sony>Samsung , because both countries are good, I don't hate any of them nor do I like one over the other

  • nothign special here...seriously....these phones remind me of my shitty razr, and something tells me their UI's wont be good....gut feeling

  • rocks !

  • japanese phones are huge.

  • japanese phones tend to be more focused on size of screen & features than size.

  • If you spend a lot of time watching mobile TV (one-seg) or internet, then it gotta be bigger.

    no offence people..

  • oh i liked the phone at 2:00 ^^ very pretty ^.^

  • lamardeofertas com

  • I think Japanese cellphones which are sold nationally, not for export, are of highest technology in the world. SHARP cellphone with ATOM CPU can run Windows Vista this year, which shocked me a million.

  • Actually South Korea is the head in cellphones, dmb, tv, LCD, Plasma display, OLED and CRT displays. Plus, Samsung is the leading high-tech electronics brand and the largest consumer electronics manufacturer in the world. followed by LG. You should probably get the facts straight before you "think" that japan has the best phones and such.

  • It's non sense reason. Even if Samsung is OK, I don't think it has a straight link between "the largest conmumer base" and the best technology. What ever you need to do is to go to Japan by yourself and use the cellphones ONLY SOLD IN JAPAN. I also agree that many cellphones for export are not so special but this is NOT what I wanna say.

  • MY FAVORITE PHONE IS THE ONE AT 2:05

  • NTT DoComo FOMA SH903i. I don't think that phone has GSM bands lol.

  • i almost bought that phone on 1:41 for like 15 bucks

  • what is that one called it loooks cool!

  • my dad has the phone at 3:25 but its american

  • its called all that ive got by the used

  • what is this song on here?

  • i have a question? how many cellphone a normal japanese can buy in a month by his salary?

  • Many.... if you know who to talk to and where to find it.

I don't even live in Japan but I regularly use Japanese SoftBank phones in the US. Just basically who you know and where to locate things.

  • 20 or more...

  • japan is like 5 to 10 years ahead of the USA's technology.....

  • 0:50 glad they're not selling it here i would spend ridiculous cash for that one

  • OoOo i like the one at 0:49 can some one tell me which on it is, and the one on 0:55

  • what song is this again?

  • All That I've Got - The Used

  • thanks.

  • Did u notice that most of the phones are flip? =O

  • A lot flip and turn.

  • can anyone tell me wat phone is 0:57 , 1:19 , 3:01 cos im needing a phone XD and if they work in the Uk?
