  • True bypass ??

  • @Spikebbop88 I think so... Most probably yes.

  • @1971SuperLead

J Mascis' first pedal was the deluxe, that started his muff obsession

  • why does this sound horrible to me but awesome to you guys. That manic depression didn't sound at all like jimmys tone. it sounds like glitch music.

  • Horrible

  • love this pedal. its probably the most insane fuzz i've had the pleasure of playing. even outdoes my catalinbread v8 fuzztone! rolling everything back and turning on the tone boost gives my setup the little extra it needs to cut through the mix and the crazy growl this thing has allows me to keep most on my low end.

excited to search out an ampeg scrambler now though. never heard of them before this video!

  • @billingsjn They must be very similar or even almost identical...

  • Why do they ALWAYS have to show of how well they shred in guitar pedal demos? I was expecting some barre chords and glider guitar. THAT'S WHY I GET PEDALS!

  • @AsmodelSoljah Ok, that wasn't exactly "shredding"...

  • how would it sound with a compressor?

  • @Burh4n Same as every other fuzz... it depends on the level of the compression, how subtle the compressor is, the amount of the noise floor, whether it's before the fuzz or after, whether it's boosting the fuzz etc etc...

  • sounds a bit too "unique" for my liking

  • I still like big muffs

  • Worst device ever made for guitar playing, sounds like absolute mud.

  • @seth3556r Actually, it is only the second worst. The worst pedal ever created was the Electro Harmonix Big Muff DELUXE. It is an AC power Memory Man sized box with a similair fuzz tone. To it's credit it does come with a wonderful compressor, but the fuzz is too intense and thin. It absolutely kills any hint of the tone of your guitar.

  • some tones that come out of it resembles the roge mayer axis fuzz, nice!

  • oh my god he totally sounds like vince vaughn!

  • Sounds like an ampeg scrambler at times.

  • @LordHector Yes, they might be very close circuit-wise as well...

  • I got mine in a porn shop.

with all the porn you can get online, no one really goes out and buys physical media porn anymore, so just to keep afloat, they diversified. They sell musical instruments, groceries, I get my tires rotated there, etc.

  • @mikejensen79 This is probably the funniest comment I've seen on YouTube.

  • Oh WOW I want one!! :-)

    Thanks for the demo!!

  • Unusable? at least for making music.

  • Surprised ...

I'm also a big fan of Fuzzes (world of sounds and meaning: a very subtle thing!), and I was very glad to meet you!

    Thank you,

    Sergey

  • @ryabtsev72 Very glad to meet you too! You can join a forum where other fuzz lovers also gather. Write in Google: "thegearpage", "ilovefuzz" and "stompboxes uk forum".

  • @bloodySunday77 That's great! Thank you. Hopefully I'll see you there already!

  • @ryabtsev72 Υes, I am in the DAM pedals forum, but more active in Gearpage! Nice people everywhere...

  • @bloodySunday77 Yes it is! I drink to your health (today my wife went to Cuba) - I have a little drink! :)

  • @ryabtsev72 Thanks a lot!

  • Today I tried the current edition of the Fender Blender - it is bad: the timbre is good, but there's no humidity and it sounds very smoothed, as the digital

  • @ryabtsev72 What digital?

  • @bloodySunday77 Hmm... I'm Sorry, English is not my native language (I'm Russiah). In woards "digital" I mean sound without "roughnes" and "wetnes"... as a soap. I don't know, maybe the next comparison would be better: a sense of а sound like trough a condom. I hoppe, your are understand

  • @ryabtsev72 A bit, yes, but have you tried an original side by side with the reissue?

  • @bloodySunday77 Oh no! I would be happy to compare the original with a replica of it. I think that it is impossible: 1) Fuzz is not popular in Russia; 2) We have a greit problems with listening of old classic pedals - not only because it's expensive (modern devises of America and Europe stand with us for 30-40% more expensive). What about old pedals and instruments...Basically, we know about them from stories and legends.

  • @ryabtsev72 I see what you mean. I think that's the same pretty much everywhere. You have to find them in 2nd hand ads, they are very hard to find. I haven't played with an original either.

  • P.S. I have Dunlop FuzzFace (fuzz-jh-f1) - realy great classic fuzz (in my opinion, of course)

  • @ryabtsev72 Yes, I also like it very much... and have played lots and lots of fuzzes (one of my hobbies).

  • @bloodySunday77 Made in Korea (on the shop site stated "Made in Mexico")

  • What are the settings to get ejecting modulator tone???

  • For only $300 YOU TOO can sound like you've blown every speaker in your cab!

  • @JCThompson1 It costs half than this, and in some cases it's a desirable sound (fuzzes can easily sound like that...)

  • @bloodySunday77 i hate to say it but i agree with jc...i dont doubt your side of the argument but who ever is turning the knobs is over doing it. just like in tuning the guitar itself, you have to find that sweet spot to make it sound good

  • @3249193 Of course you do, but that is the nature of this beast... it's not a gentle fuzz.

  • @JCThompson1

Well, considering that's how the first fuzz tones were created, is that such a bad thing? :)

  • @JCThompson1 That's the point of a Fuzz pedal!

  • in all honesty, this thing sounds like the $30 "amp" that came with my first guitar, i frankly dont understand how anyone could enjoy the sounds it makes

  • Do the turn knobs go to 11?

  • @SupernautG :-D They should, but unfortunately only go up to 10...

  • @loveitnow31 the vid is clear enough to copy the dial positions (you can see which way the F's are pointing)

  • @AsaurDT Good comment... I also do the same thing when I see pedalboard pictures of my favourite guitarists.

  • Good job ! BOB !

  • Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers.

  • @loveitnow31 I am afraid I don't know... you can try asking the Musictoyz store but I doubt they will remember. Seems strange though because this sound is almost written all over the pedal...

  • Does this sound good on bass?

  • Well Done BOB !!

  • This is no screamin' fuzz tone, it is better FARTING! I think it is useless.

  • @Zsoli20 Thank God others didn't think so... it's not for everyone, that's for sure.

  • its crazy)

  • Zvex owns them all to be honest

  • @ 0:19

He says pawn shops. He just has a Jersey accent.

  • i think he said pound shops

  • That is fu*king nice.....................

  • can you please list the specific settings for each of those different effects? Just got one and wouldn't mind some starting points. Cheers.

  • @nedgey It's a video from the guys at the Musictoys shop...

  • did he just say "porn shops?" wtf.

  • @iLikechevelle Yes... well no, but that's what other people thought as well! :-D Wouldn't it be cool if a porn shop also had a nice collection of boutique pedals? Unusual but interesting idea...

  • @bloodySunday77 guitarists' dream. Good porn and good gear.

  • @iLikechevelle Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

  • No. Just not for me. No, no, no, no. Three words, Big Muff Pi.

  • @djbones666 Three words: completely different effect.

  • @bloodySunday77

which would be why billy used both

  • This sounds like a classic Mozrite Fuzzbrite combined with an Octavia.. to me, the only useful setting is the octavia tone. but there are plenty of pedals with the same effect for much less money and space than this.

  • No, I'm going by the video. I understand that lo-fi sounds can be cool, I have an Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer that I sometimes use, but the Blender sounds bad to me. Maybe it sounds better in person.

  • It belongs in this category of octave-like fuzzes like the Ampeg Scrambler that is very easy to sound harsh. However, in the proper hands they can sound great, even Hendrix-y. They are not as user-friendly though as, say, a tubescreamer (no fuzz ever is).

  • Good lord, what a shitty sounding piece of garbage.

  • Have you played with it yourself?

  • I haven't played with myself at any porn shops at least ;)

in all seriousness though, I just bought a blender yesterday and this demo doesn't do justice to the low end growl this pedal has. it's not your fault though, cuz you obviously know that in real life it's not nearly as fizzy as it sounds here after youtube's compression, and perhaps through laptop speakers.

  • @bloodySunday77 Also to clear things up, the "tone boost" switch apparently bypasses the tone circuit. From my experience you end up with more mid-ish even tone, less of a scooped sound, and a significant volume increase (as one would imagine, moving the tone control does nothing when the switch is engaged). it also seems to be way more interactive with the blend knob.

  • @silendt Nice comments, thanks! Yeah, that's my experience with pretty much any tone circuit bypass...

  • this pedals sounds like dying elephants

  • I appreciate the effort to be a bit poetic, but that would actually require you to know what dying elephants really sound like, doesn't it?

  • whats to say i dont know i may work at a

zoo or i may just work at steak and shake

  • You don't know? Who does? You don't sound too sure of yourself... maybe you don't work at all. Or you just may be 12 years old and starting to discover teh intertetz.

  • lol no man im joking and btw im 15 and im bout to have a job

  • i need this pedal

  • Actually a good guitar player can make any guitar, amp or effect sound good :)))

  • Precisely!!!

  • @MihailTronix Kinda. I'm sure someone like Joe Satriani could only do so much with, like, a Squire bullet strat and a Honeytone amp.

  • Fender why bother? his hing sounds like shit

  • His what?

  • @bloodySunday77 I think he was saying "this thing"

  • I see... well, he obviously can't possibly imagine how awesome any "shitty sounding" effect can be in the right hands.

  • They can sound like crap for sure...there hard to control...I did a good Santana song with one that came out pretty good...Black Magic Woman on my YOUTUBE page...

  • this thing isn't for everyone but it doesnt sound like shit if you know how to use it. I use mine all the time.

  • Yes, sounds like Tom Hanks, maybe he's moonlighting, though I don't think he needs the money!

  • so this pedal would be good for that older smashing pumpkins sound right? i read somewhere that bolly did use this pedal befor

  • No, it would not. He only used it very sparingly, and to create harsh sounds mainly for solos. The ideal pedal would be an American Big Muff (the big box), a ZVex Fuzz Factory or a Muff clone such as the Blackout Efectors Musket or the Earthquaker Hoof. Some Devi Ever fuzzes will do, too. Make sure you use a good, clean and loud tube amp.

  • The smaller Big Muff sounds great to me and takes up less space than the big box Muff.

  • is it just me? or this guy's voice somehow sounds similar to tom hanks.

  • lol...this guy is too NJ/NEW sounding...listen to the words PAWN SHOPS....lol..

  • Too bad pron shops don't have this things anymore..

  • i got one from my new house it was under an old seat and the seat was broken so i put a rock on top of the chair and the chair fell so i heard like a metal clanging sound and there it was really beaten but beautiful i tried it off and it worked so i kept it . it's made in usa and in 1969

  • Bob rocks!

  • hell yeah!

  • @ 0:19 did he say "porn shops"? wtf

  • ...pawn shops.

  • @keepitwitmine

Pawn or Pawned - A pawnbroker (or pawnshop) is an individual or business that offers secured loans to people, with items of personal property used as collateral. ...

  • @keepitwitmine pawn shops

  • @keepitwitmine for people who want their porn mean.

  • @keepitwitmine i think he ment pawn shop

  • @keepitwitmine no he said pawn shop :D

  • For fuzz octave up this gets a little robotic crazy so for the Hendrix tones I'd go with either the Dunlop or Fulltone Octavia. Also if you've ever looked at the from of Three Dog Night's Naturally album back in the day (70s) you can see the pedal on the floor right in front of the guitarist on the front of the album. He uses it on the songs "One Man Band", Fireeater and Joy To The World. Did anyone forget about that back in those days?

  • That last one sounds very much like buckethead on 'too many humans' lol

    neat :)

  • What are the exact settings on the final tone?

  • You'll have to email Musictoys. I doubt if they will remember, though... shouldn't be hard to figure out if you have the pedal.

  • I have it, and the sound I have is pretty close. I just wanted to see if the settings were pretty close or if the different amps we were using made a difference. Either way I love this thing.

  • Go Bob, go!

  • please dump the used car slash door-to-door slash washing machine salesman voice-over track

  • I didn't make it, and it's not that bad as other videos. No one seemed to bother, so... easy on the anti-consumerism attitude.

  • I just got this pedal. I didn't expect it to be the fuzz beast it is! It's so NON-Fender sounding! I can't believe Fender ever made this monster. It's like 37 Big Muff's cranked all the way up! 3 thumbs up.

  • ... id rather go with a fuzz factory

  • Fuzz Factories are overpriced and overrated. Will Sledge makes a better pedal for less.

  • Who on earth is Will Sledge and where was he when the first Fuzz Factories came out? Oh, and the wife of a friend of my neighbour's distant cousin makes an even better pedal, and can give it to you if you buy him a beer.

  • The fuzz factory is kinda a totally different beast, you can't really compare it to the blender, the blender is more of a 60's crazy octave fuzz, the fuzz factory is an awesome high gain modern fuzz with oscillation. Both great pedals none the less.

  • good demo.

  • didn't jimmy page use this for the led zep song custard pie?

  • That's a nice question, but I think Page was a devoted Tonebender user, and sometimes also using a Fuzz Face. I've never heard of him using this one...

  • for octave fuzz, page usually used an mxr blue box. He could have used this though.

  • Would you be able to aquire tabs for 1:16 - about 1:25

  • Try using your ear - I have never used tabs in my life (ok, I did so in the beginning in order to learn 3 or 4 basic chords...)

  • good work bob

  • No offense, but outside of Fender's advertisements, I have no evidence that Kevin Shields ever used this pedal.

It isn't on his current board (of about 50 pedals), and on the "classic" recordings, he basically used amp distortion with delay/echo and reverb -- not a ton of fuzz or distortion stomps.

  • I am no Shields expert, and you might be right... but it might have been used in his recordings. Not that we would be able to tell, though.

  • shuppet88l, Kevin used to use this pedal back in the You Made Me Realise days, and before that. There's some documentation on the web.

  • Shields uses a lot of Devi Ever fuzzes these days, and many of them overlap the Blender tonewise, especially when it comes to octave foldover and high-end "scramble."

  • I love the ring modulator tone. Sounds very "Jeff Beck".

  • I want one! Perfect for the High Tide gut-punch tone

  • They made a reissue but didn't make a LED on it? Maybe it would not look as replica ofcourse, but then you could buy the original of course..

  • How do you (anyone who has used both) compare the fender blender reissue with new models of the big muff? Thanks for your input.

  • I believe they have a completely different sound... this one is a bit harsh sounding with a flavour of the octave up, and the variations of the Muff are easier on the ear. The American reissue has this high gain scooped scound, the small Muff is a bit more gentle, the Muff overdrive is quite wild but not harsh...

  • You can use the Muffs much more often, and for rhythm sounds, and the Blender for solos and small passages that cut through.

  • the green russian muff is amazingly harmonic and complex, ridiculous sustain! Only criticism I might have is that it can be a bit too squashy and overdistorted for crunch tones, but for super duper lead and power chord stuff I love it. you should check out how many major people use it - chemical brothers, smashing pumpkins, korn for a start!

  • Fat!

  • so wait, you cant turn the harmonizer off?

  • I am not exactly sure what you mean by "harmoniser". Octave fuzzes have this overtone that is perfectly natural - there is no artificial harmoniser circuit in there.

  • can you play chords with it?

  • If you are feeling adventurous and don't mind the weird looks from the audience and band members, yes... It is too harsh for chords, although if you go easy on it you might be able to do that. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

  • holt fuck! thats some fuzz

  • so then how did my bloody valentine use them? most of their music is chord based. I guess they used to older non reissue without the octave?

  • No, the octave was always there. It isn't easy to tell when it's being used with all this huge reverb-ed feedback sound that they have. But the reference is 100% correct.

  • yeah, My Bloody Valentine's stuff is so FX-heavy, it can be hard to tell what's going on, have you SEEN Kevin Shields' pedal board on the recent tours? Insane amount of pedals.

  • No, I have only seen some pics... I wish I had seen them live, must be quite an experience. Shields is every shoegazer effects-maniac guitarist's hero!! :-D

  • So they sold these in porn shops, eh?...Interesting.

  • Hmm, I wonder how it can be used in... moments of intimacy!!!! X-D

  • i do believe he said pawn shops... but... who knows? ;P

  • How does this work as a straight up fuzz?

  • I think it always has that "octavia" flavour that's hard to dial out... I am not sure, though...

  • I just got one last week and it sounds great!!!!!

  • I think this sounds pretty cool!

  • they ALL sound the same. Don't buy into the whole "the old version sounded so much better". It's total elitist bullshit. I'm a audio engineer and to be honest, only tech heads claim they can hear a "difference". Even if there is indeed a difference in sound 99.9 percent of people wouldn't be able to tell either once it's been recorded and mastered or played live with a chain of other effects. I know it's cool paying 400 for the vintage model but it's truly NOT worth it here.

  • at least someone that says something smart...

in some pedals or gear it does make a difference (i play a lot of synths and of course i see a difference between my modular and any soft-synth) but in this reissue, is very difficult to find any difference...

  • Hahah this thing sounds AWFUL !

  • The new ones lack the balls of the old ones. The old ones only need to get turned up to 3 or 4 while the new ones cranked to 10 still lack the sheer destructive facemelting grunt of the old. I have 2 old ones and each is subtly different while the newer ones pretty much sound the same.

  • That's very interesting to know... Although I can think of a million ways to dirty up a fuzz just by pushing it harder with a boost, an OD, a distortion, hotter pickups...

  • I don't think that is the point he was making. I know you are selling and demoing them. I think the point is, it doesn't sound exactly the original.

  • I'm not selling or demoing them... I am in no possible way affiliated with Musictoyz.

  • I posted a Black Magic Woman video using the FENDER BLENDER for you to listen to...Had one the originals in the 70's...Gave 50bucks and a key to a drink machine for it then...lol...once you get these dialed in , there's nothing quite like it...

  • I saw your video and it is great, however I can't see any notification in my inbox to link them together... if I don't receive anything I will sent you an invitation myself soon.

  • The "hendrixy" tone reminded me of when my amp broke down

  • the only way to play this thing is with all knobs on 10

  • in the wrong hands, this would sound TRULY awful...think anyone who wud get one,is paying for the name and history of the product..a true unwanted step-child of a pedal!

  • I had always heard of this pedal but never thought much of it...I played with some guys once, running a Rickenbacker 4003 bass into a tube Mesa head and 4x10 cabinet, and the guitarist let me test out his reissue Fender Blender...wow! Like most of the best bass fuzzes, the Blend knob is what makes it work so well, but the tone was fantastic, and kept my interest more than my Fulltone Bass-Drive (which is a fine bass overdrive). I've wanted one ever since...

  • Hi Bob...thanks Bob.

  • what the fuck are they playing through mine cant do half that shit

  • Fingers and creative imagination come first, gear second.

  • This video really makes me wanna get one of these. Good thing I don't have any money or I would be out right now getting one.

  • This review is terrible...search youtube and theres a better review from gearwire

  • AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Gearwire??! You must be deaf, blind and in a coma to say that... X-D

Oh wait, it was a joke. Or at least I hope it was.

  • not kidding I just watched this again

  • You watched it again? The one with Dan "please put me out of my misery" Agosto? Well, I can't really prevent you from torturing yourself, you must have your reasons and I respect that.

  • Hot damn! Just picked mine up today. =D
