  • Please Please...can anyone please tell me the story, he seems so sad and the music is WOWW

  • and this my friends is why I love vampires.

  • Sorry ,but vampires bite everybody, male or female,so because he had sucked another man that doesn´t mean the Count to be bisexual, the lyrics don´t say anything about sex !

  • This is literal translation. The other one on here is the English libretto translation, i.e. with all the rhyming and phrasing rhythms for the Broadway show.

  • is this the exact translation? because i saw another translation and it was totally different

  • If you decided to translate the whole show this well? I would love you forever. Thank you so much! <3

  • I dont like this version.. :( He's not as good as the other guy, whose name i cant remember.

  • Thank you so much for the translation!

It gives me shivers to know the depts of the meanings of this song. To me this is the most special song of vampires that was written. No true vampire ever regrets that he killed people, not even Angel from Buffy The Vampires Slayer. And Vampire Hunter D is a Dumpill - half vampire half human, so if he ever reach a woman he will bite her, so he is untouchable forever.

This song didn't recieved the real exposure and uniqe nature it has. too bad...

  • a try

  • It really kills me how stunning these lyrics are. I wish the hadn't screwed the English production all those years ago. A direct translation is breath taking and I think would have taken sleepy American audiences by storm.

  • Thankyou so much, I love the exact translation. :)

  • I have a weird question, but I'm just curious. When the count talks about the page that he killed, was the page a lover of his or did he just consider the page a victim?

  • I've often wondered that myself. But I suppose it adds to the androgyny of his character.

    -CK

  • Another victim I'd say.

  • chiyome21 I was wondering this myself. I think that Krolock just says it simply and bright: he slept with Napoleon and killed him, by drinking his blood to death.

Don't look at me that way, he says himself that he wants Alfred to himself, so this page of Napoleon just proves he is bio-sexsual.

  • * bisexual

  • My issue is that I wonder how young the page was. That'd be really creepy if the page was a young boy and not an adult. You know?

  • chiyome21 I think that in the musical they changed a little the history (I'm using Wikipedia right now)

so instead of Napoleon suffering his greate defeate from Russia at 1813, that made him losing his power over Europe and his image was ruined forever, and after that he died at exile on remoted island,

instead he meets Krolock when he supposedly invaded Romania, and when Krolock killed him (after having sex with him^^), that explains why he has disappeared.

So Napoleon was a 44 grown man! :)

  • @Mor7682

But in the subtitles for this song, it says that he kills a page, not Napoleon himself. Is the meaning in German different? Lol, sorry for bugging you with all these questions :)

  • OHHHHHH You are right!!

In the WORD dictionary, "Page" means "Book Page", but also "Period", "Messenger", and "Private Butler".

So Krolock was actualy singing about the Messenger of Napoleon that came to the castle to promote a message from Napoleon?! WOW I never guessed that!

I always thought that it ment that the shamefull period of Napoleon was that he met Krolock that killed him... (after sex XD)

I don't speak German so the only one who can answear this is the translator of this video ^^

  • it means "Private Butler" :). He might killed his girlfriend.

  • @Julszcken Girlfriend? Who's girlfriend?...

  • @Mor7682 the Messenger's girlfriend. I think he kill her and the messenger war really sad about that and yeah. And this didn't broke Krolock's heart..

  • @Julszcken the German lyrics are:

"Und des Kaisers Page aus Napoleons Tross...

    Achtzehnhundertdreizehn

    Stand er vor dem Schloss.

Dass seine Trauer mir das Herz nicht brach

Kann ich mir nicht hat verzeihn."

There is no mention to a woman here...

  • I know, I'm German anyway. But why should be the messenger that sad? Right. Because he killed his girlfriend^^

  • @Julszcken I see................................

That is a realy good idea :)

In the english demo Steve Barton sings the lines:

"And the bashful page of Napoleon the Great

In 1813 he stood at the gate

When I recall his body I cant help but think

To consume it was a sin."

Here it shows Krolock's bisexual side in a realy bold way ^^

Seems strange for the americans to do this.

  • @Julszcken

Napoleon suffered a major defeat in 1813, in Leipzig.

(Is there a castle there? Was Napoleon at that castle? I don't know.)

Maybe the page was sad about the military defeat.

I may be influenced by the official English version (which is necessarily

a *very* free "translation") -- but I don't perceive anything about a girlfriend.

I thought Krolock killed the page.

  • It should translate to 'The Unstoppable Greed'. Insatiable and unstoppable aren't that different in meaning and more people will know the meaning of the word. Just my opinion. When I translated this song myself (I do not speak German) I used part directly translated and a bit from 'Endless Appetite'. I called that 'The Unstoppable Greed'.

  • You know, being someone who does not speak German...I have to say, I'm sad that I don't because the exact translations to this show are absolutely beautiful....thank you so much for doing this!

  • You're welcome! Yeah, I think Michael Kunze (the lyricist) is great. The lyrics are so pretty, and they're so well written for the German language, which makes them hard to translate sometimes, but they work so well in German.
