*sigh* I'm disappointed in PS3 sure the graphics are amazing and the online is better but It's not as memorable as PS2 remember when games were so exclusive to PS2 that you just HAD to get one? now more and more games are coming out for both 360 and ps3 and the games weren't as memorable as they were in the 6th gen I can see games getting less innovative and just more realistic and nice looking.

The Playstation 2 vs. Playstation 2 "slim", in My opinion, the original model wins when it comes down to the design look, the possibilities, the fan cooling and that it can take a bit more accidental damage then the slim version does + that the slim model is designed to be a budget version. Another minus is that the slim version cant stay on as long as the bigger one because the fan is so much smaller so when I bought my PS2, I asked for the bigger one (SCPH 50001), one of the last before slim.

Of course the ps3 hardware is more powerful than the ps2 it's just that the ps2 has a lot more fun games than the ps3. The ps3 cell processor is the successor to the emotion engine. The cell has a IBM power risc in-order core processor plus 7 vector processors units and the emotion engine has a mips risc in-order core processor, 2 vector unit processors. The GS was incorporated onto the emotion engine in the slim version.

@4deiter i remember when my parents bought me a ps2. i was very excited and played onimusha, gta, moh and dynasty warriors on it. then it started to make a very annoying buzz whenever i put a game in. I even had to take it apart and use a butter knife jus to open the lil screws in the middle to clean the lil lens. In retrospect i think the slim was more reliable

If you want the ability to play online with millions of people in more modern games, get ps3 or xbox360. 1 thing is for sure, ps2 is less than half as expensive as ps3 or xbox 360.

this video just answer one of the many problems i had with this model, my ps2 stopped reading blu disc games and i was force to buy the slim model, than i replaced the slim model with the ps3 80 gb ( metel gear version) that was backwards compatible with ps2 games. i like this video and the end showing the dreamcast, homebrew games are still been made for the dreamcast. so actually the dreamcast its RAD

@chapalopa2 uhh the ps2 has the infamous: "disk read error"  The xbox had the rrod (still does) New consoles do not break like old ones did. Old ones broke, you had to buy a new one or get it fixed. New ones don't get these hardware problems, they get harddrive problems which may cause you to lose all of your data, but they are fixable usually. Honestly the big reason the newer consoles have more problems is they are far more complex. Ps2 was way simpler. ps3 is more like a computer.

The "FAT" ones had a better cooling from what I've observed, mine does have a dead fan (and the 1st I've seen with that) while I've seen many of the slim ones that get warmer than I would like.

The fat ones also have support for a network adapter if you can get a network adapter for them, something the slim lacks.

The fat PS2s have essentially the same internal hardware as the slim ones, from end-user point of view. The newer slim models have their data/graphic processing chips manufactured at a newer and finer process technology, which makes them smaller, easier to integrate and cheaper, though. For me personally, a working fat one, (especially with perfectly functioning optical drive ), would be much more desirable than a slim one.

But the simple fact is, the PS3 is superior in every way. The only value in the 2 at this point is for games which you already own (& don't want to re-buy on PSN) but absolutely love. That's it. It is still good, but in no way is it the best ever. (by current standards - 'in it's time' is a different story)

But if we were being fair.......The PS3 is more superior system in every aspect so on a technical level you are wrong. @BLaz2ze No big difference really. The beast one uses an internal power supply, so no power brick. It can fit a hard drive and has an optional network adapter for using the web browser. It also has problems reading discs. It can't read PS1 games very well, or the blue coated PS2 games. The thin PS2 uses an external and on newer models an internal power supply. The network adapter is built in, and it can't take a hard drive. It also has a tray-loading DVD drive, and they work better.
