I like it how people constantly point out that this song very much reflects their own experiences in life and in their relationships...
I guess that a lot of people visit prostitutes these days.
Anyway, if there ever was a person able to write a beautiful, almost romantic song about tragic nature of working girls and their customers, it'd be Springsteen. Brilliant song. Too bad people like to sugar coat everything and they miss the most evident and I feel, very original meaning of the song.

Actually, that line doesn't refer to something like that at all. It's about male orgasm. When guys have it, it really erases all rational capabilities for a brief moment. The feeling is unforgetablle, but at the same time all memory is erased for that brief moment as well. If you're a guy, you might know what I mean. And you can understand that line if you look it in the context of the original meaning of the song. And that original meaning speaks of a prostitute. Read the lyrics.
