Simple, don't drive in Mexico, don't rent a car, don't buy drugs and stay in tourist areas and 99 percent of the time, you'll be fine. There's no reason to drive in Mexico, you can fly there and there is plenty of transportation if you're at a decent hotel.

lol, US citizens should be aware that Mexico's laws are different then the US. Insurance is not required in Mexico, yet if you get into an accident you better figure out which party is at fault or both will be taken to jail until the person who is at fault pays for the damages.
