wow! so many! i just brought 2 the other day after my first rat ( biggie ) passed away a couple of months ago and there still really small and skittish, how can i get them used to me? any tips

@CronicFiend Here's a good tip, put on an old oversize shirt and put your two ratties under your shirt. Don't let them out, you can pet them and let them sniff your hands. Do this everyday for half hour to an hour. They will recognize your smell and feel comfortable with you eventually. Good luck!

thanks. I don't have this cage anymore. It was a Martins Cage. Rats don't live long therefore all the rats in this video have passed away. ;( Now I have two Critter Nations filled with 20 new rescued rats.

They just do. Most of them were raised together and the others were slowly introduced. Rats are social therefore they need lots of buddies. :)

Hi, my ratties are mostly rescues now. Some come from shelters and others from people who don't want them anymore or just can't take care of them for some reason. I'll also take baby rats from accidental litter to help out the owners. Rats are very social animals and need one ore two or three of the same sex rat to play, groom and cuddle with.

Thanks!! We had 11 rats at the time of this video, with 7 from the same litter. So far, four from this crew have passed on, but we've grown to having 20 rats in two seperate cages.

It's amazing you were able catch that on tape! The funniest thing I ever saw my rat do was fall over while he was cleaning his hind leg, as he fell his tail popped up between his back legs and he grabbed for it to keep his balance, of course he fell over with tail in paw. The look on his little face of embarassent was as funny as the act itself!
