  • Please never stop your musical griping. You are the official soundtrack to my thesis.

  • Everything government does is based on an accounting decision.

    Response:

    /NO CONTRACT/

    Deal with it...

  • this is great.

  • Really good song... excellent production value... as @papakilatube says 'Prophetic'... An anthem for many of the 99% who have taken the struggle to the streets :)

  • Wait, you mean to tell me that these Muthafuckers actually expect you to pay back money that you borrowed and promised to pay? I don't get it

  • @yeosch25i- You do understand its a lot more complicated than that right...

  • Hey this is great. Prophetic, even. Cheers.

  • It is not the federal government's job to protect you from your own stupidity.

  • @iomanga- No, nor should it be good business practice to financially ruin hundreds of thousands of lower and average income americans to make a quick couple bucks. Those companies deliberately make the loans difficult to pay and difficult to understand, because it is entirely in their best interest to do so. And in this country, capitalism is king. CEOs of companies like that make millions doing much more harm than good... and then they die. What's the fucking point.

  • "THE BEAST THAT SWALLOWS ITS YOUNG"= THE FEDERAL RESERVE!

  • best protest song I've heard in years, great job!

  • best protest song I've heard in years, great job!

  • This is reeely a TUBE CLASSIC!

  • i suppose its slightly ironic that im listening to this as i do exam revision for university.

  • OMG You are sooo good... found you on uke toob. keep up the good work!

  • @EscapistGaming just to be clear I'm not a supporter of how socialism however we are socialist in a bunch of ways. they were federally insured loans. which means that if they default the government pays for them so in all reality the government borrowed money then lent it to students.

either way paying back student loans is a no brainer. they have huge payments plans and deferments for any real hardship. so only dead beats default and I have no sympathy for them

  • @ArcticPuffinSG if they borrow money directly from the government why shouldn't they be in debt to the government. because in reality they are borrowing from the citizens as a whole. If they don't pay it back then they are stealing from the citizens as a whole. you really can't have it both ways. do you want federal loans or not. if so I'm affraid they are going to require repayment.

  • I agree no more student loans... only the people smart enough to pay for college while they go should go to college. The rest are clearly not smart enough to utilize a degree anyways. That the point right?

  • Migrate to Australia. Let's see the fuckers get you there!

  • Lol. Funny song.

It's Time for a New System of Economic Fairness to Stop the Endless Debt Cycle. Education should be accessible to All, not only those with money, because the more educated we are, the better a world we can create.

This is why I support an Equal Money System, check it out at equalmoney(dot)org

  • I heard the law is going to change soon to draft all of us who owe student loans into a program where we get a bunk in a Chinese dorm and 3 bowls of noodles per day, so we can work making blue jeans and cheap electronics.

  • Haha, I re-revisited this video again :) it's still amazing, matt kresling I'm not sure if you remember this but you messaged me in 2009 saying that we should make this an annual thing. Well happy new years and I guess it's more of a bi-annual (is that the correct term?) thing now.

  • Happy anniversary.

  • That's what I do.........I just hit delete.

  • Just awesome.

  • wow. i sometimes i think things would be better as a criminal mastermind then an honest person. i swear following the rules get you at the bottom of the food chain. We need to bring back the times when people assasinated the big pigs.

  • Borrowers who intentionally avoid making voluntary arrangements on US Dept of Education student loans typically end up paying more money in the long run through involuntary payments such as administrative wage garnishment, the tax offset program, and litigation. Making voluntary payments ends up saving a great deal of money.

I'm glad my student loans are current, or my 8000 homebuyer tax credit would've been offset and applied primarily toward interest and penalty fees :|

  • The most interesting aspect of this mafia crime syndicate that has hi-jacked the education systems of this once free country....is that ....they say the loans are taken from taxes, so to not pay them off hurts tax payers...but my parents have paid taxes and continue to pay school and property taxes...as will I, so how can they take our taxes, loan it back to us, and make us pay the loan that we paid them to pay us to pay them with? We pay enough taxes for all education to be free of charge....

  • ...but apparently some mafia don's want $3,000,000 homes ....and 5 sports cars....so they have to leech off of (extort) hard working people. Like the CEO of GC Services....

Jerald Burton Katz. 11015 Country Squire Street, Houston, TX 77024. (713) 464-8214.

  • I disagree with the premise of this video...

But I have to admit its catchy and well made.

  • I'm a sucker, but you're an accountant.

  • @kresling I'm also employed, which is more than I can say for these sad fucks

  • @avataz Oh and just so you know, I have government job that pays well and SHOULD be able to support me alone. Instead I have 2 jobs and work 65 hours a week. I have had 2 days off in the last TWO MONTHS. I have no hope for a family or a house. I have no hope for the future. So please, OH PLEASE, give me some insight on how to fix this because I'M DROWNING.

  • @kresling This is why we love you, Matthew :)

  • @avataz I smell a loan troll. Please, tell us how you paid off your loans in three years? I want numbers. I want to know how much you paid, and NOT including what your parents gave you.

  • Comment removed

  • @KDD7734 Sure thing. I saved about $833 a month for 3 years since my I had to start making payments on my student loan. My payments were only $157 a month at the time. The original amount of my loan was 17K. My parents gave my nothing. Need more information or can you figure it out from there?

  • @avataz I'm with kresling; I'd rather be a sucker than an accountant.

  • @avataz 17K in student loans? That is it? Who paid for the other 50K of your student loans?

  • @ShowinYaHow What are you talking about?

  • @FishingBrisbane I wish I could you fucking loser

  • Thank you for channeling you pain in to this awe inspiring piece of art. It was cathartic for me to say the least.

  • I like your work Matt!

  • please visit ʎɯouoɔǝ‾ǝɥʇ‾ǝʇɐןnɯıʇs‾oʇ‾suɐoן‾ʇuǝpnʇs‾ǝʌıƃɹoɟ/ʍǝıʌ/suoıʇıʇǝd/ƃɹo˙ǝƃuɐɥɔ˙ʍʍʍ//:dʇʇɥ so our voices can be heard! (link is upside down because youtube wouldn't allow me to post a link :-(.

  • With the failure of the federal government (non-caps intentional) to not spend our future into the ground, .. I say screw them. There are no jobs in my area, other than McDonalds.. and I have 2 degrees. That is the lie. College is a lie. A trade school would have been a better investment. Screw the beast that swallows it's young (but not this song.. this song rocks).

  • 200 dollar textbooks, rediculous online classes, employers requiring a bachelors for every position, where will it end? One big fucking scam.

  • @skunkapotamus Exactly. You have to have a doctorate to dig ditches these days, thats the problem.

  • When is this world going to realize that the federal reserve bank is no more federal than federal express and our debt-backed money is just a bunch of ones and zeroes in a computer? The system has failed and the body of the snake is still twitching. Don’t expect a change in 12/21/1012, demand it!

  • Stupid video, this shows that american people are not responsible enough to pay for every loans that they borrow, read first before applying for it, if you don't want the terms, don't apply for it.

  • A PHD from a state university and a buck will buy you a cup of coffee at a 7/11, which is convenient since you will probably be working there.

  • I borrowed money, graduated and paid it off. Pay your debts fucking leach.

  • @xit1254 Sometimes life happens and you don't graduate. I was nine months along three months before graduation and my husband made me quit., I had no job with which to repay the loan, and we ended up filing bankruptcy. Now I'm 52 years old and disabled, yet it would be nice to be able to go back to school, but unfortunately, I would have to pay out of pocket for school or repay the loan at huge interest until I'm dead, and then some.

  • @xit1254 I hope you got a decent job after flushing your money down the toilet.

  • Fuck off Pussy! I borrowed money, graduated and paid it off. Pay your debts fucking leach.

  • i just can't get over how brilliant this is. the part at the end where all the coolectors do back up vocals and then start dancing is probably my favorite. why are you not famous? well, maybe you are a little bit...

  • UK is following suit. Humanity is bummered lol. No need to care or the joke is on us. We are unimportant but if we value anything other than ego then we will slowly wake up and grow (or shrink for that matter). Good luck my fellow brethren.

  • fuck sallae mae or how ever you spell it.. they screw people over so much =|

  • lol YES! I love it!!

I wish I hadn't gotten suckered in to college. Its all a giant scam.

  • Some of it is a remix of sound clips lol

Over all i must say this turned out pretty damn good

The unspoken problem that plagues its young

    Solutions exist but often unspoken...

People with tax problems have ex IRS agents to get opinions from...

How about students on the other hand?

  • @mdstueve

Listen fool, I also graduated debt-free, but with an easy major and a big scholarship. My friends had tougher majors in engineering, no time to work, and not so lucky to get a scholarship- and not born rich, so no choice but the student loans.

The student-loan industry in US is just one asinine racket that's wrecking a generation and the country. Other nations make sure students finish debt-free, which is why they're taking the lead while the USA goes banana republic.

  • @ChuckyJJCthulhu tell that to the English students. Student fees are going up massively. You know.. those fees that were already getting thousands of people in massive amounts of debts. So the Government decided to up it. I dont agree everybody should go to University, but i do agree that people should atleast have the opportunity of it.

  • @mdstueve its called collateral mate, cash in hand is handy too

  • Amen to you, brother. How incredibly self serving and arrogant can these idiots be? Running up huge debt, and then walking away from it so the rest of society has to pay for their education. Screw them.

  • @xit1254 Society failed them, they might as well fail society.

  • wow, perfect

  • fantastic!

  • And thanks plenty for the album mate.

  • tihs is too brilliant and more true than ever

  • Brilliant and chilling song, sir. A tip of the hat to you, and best wishes.

  • (Continued)

Ever since the beginning of high school, I've promised myself that I won't get into the debt trap known as college.

I have the spirit and confidence to do without college. I'll be grateful knowing that I can get ahead in life, and not sign any damned loans.

If Bill Gates can make it without college, anyone else can.

    Independents lead the way!

  • good luck with that. 14 years of bull shit for me trying to make a living. finally cracked and went back to college. Rather be in debt then stuck another year at home depot.

  • @bluediamond2077 You know, you don't have to work at a store for the rest of your life if you don't go to college. (That's what most people assume you'll do if you don't go.) You could work at a store, and work your way up to management.

Or land an apprenticeship somewhere, start your own business, or learn a profession at a tech school.

  • You know what happens in retail though. You work hard to get a head and management passes you up for a promotion because some other new girl who came in fresh out of high school flirts with the manager . Or you get a great manager who tells you that your next in line to become a manager then that mgr gets fired . Both happened to me. it's better to get a job with what you know then a job based on how much you kiss ass or sell your soul. Going to school to become a RN now.

  • I can't start a business because after working in retail making crap wages for 14 years I had to file CH 7 and lost my 760 credit score. tech schools are expensive. Pima medical wants $11,000 for a 10 month program then you get out as a pharmacy tech making $10 an hr.

  • @independence442 bill gates was a genius

  • @rqbrain No, he is a decietful Roal Priviledged nazi aryan eugenisist.

  • College is pumped up with lies, lies, and more lies. They brainwash kids into believing a degree will guarantee a job and make you filthy rich.

Kids go into fantasy land in their minds, they blindly believe it, they take out mortgage-sized loans, they graduate, and behold, their hopes and dreams are crushed!

When they're in college, the loan amount is just a number, until they graduate and have to start paying it back.

  • What's truly concerning is being in college, feeling this way, and doing nothing about it. No matter how much sense this makes, no matter how many times I do the math, I can't shake the cultural meme that I need a diploma... not necessarily to do what I want to do in life, but as a safety net. A $120,000 safety net that's not all that reliable these days.

This is absolutely brilliant, though. Should be shown to every kid considering a university education. Kudos.

  • This is fuckin awesome Kresling, You're like a fuckin ukelele PUNK ROCKER!!

  • Sadly, this video has a whole lot of truth in it. Its a vicious cycle- want a good job nowadays? You need a really good college education. Get a really good college education, and you'll have to work a bad job to pay the damn bills off.

  • Students unite!!!! We are the thinkers of tomorrow!!! We need all the educational resources we can get!

  • fantastic song. excellent

  • All my friends that never went to college and have satisfying well paying careers are COMPUTER folk. Self taught. Universities have a primarily selfish goal of making more money for themselves. Rapes are hushed up but not at all uncommon on most large campuses. Everyone would rather freak out about the one at a High School dance because that is more rare.

  • OK what did YOU major in? Because it certainly wasn't logic. The truth is our schools PROVIDE very few options for majors and ALL produce worthless graduates. In Europe, by contrast, someone who is mechanically inclined can go to school to learn how to work on cars and such. Not everybody has the blunt calloused worker-bee ability to hurl themselves into a boring, unsatisfying but "well paying" routine of empty meaningless garbage like you do.

  • Europe is essentially a caste system. What ever track you are at age 14 is essentially going to be your fate for the rest of your life. And speaking of "worker bee ability", well...it's only work. Don't take yourself so damn seriously. And I do boring and unsatisfying and average paying work and I'd rather be doing something else. Oh well. And if you odn't have the same mentality, then you have to accept the consequences of your desires.

  • "Europe is essentially a caste system." Totally true for Germany - very discriminatory.

  • Exactly sir! In America you are free to excell or be mediocre depending upon your work ethic and desire. There are no guarantees of success, but at least you are free to try.

  • @cyberpimp29 And to die horribly if you lack the good fortune or skill to make it. Nice. Socialism now please.

  • @EmperorofCartoons - Its unfortunate that you do not care about freedom and have no concept of personal accountability. That being said, it will be over my dead body that I allow someone like you to sell OUR freedom up the river so that you can have a socialistic paradise where you can spunge off those of us working hard to take care of ourselves and our families.

  • P.S. All my favorite writers NEVER GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE:

    John Steinbeck

    Ernest Hemingway

    Scott Fitzgerald

    Jack London

CUZ COLLEGE TAKES THE BALLS OFF MOST MEN BUT NOT THIS DARING KRESLING !

  • Even people who got solid degrees like engineering or medical have trouble finding jobs because companies do not want to hire entry level employees/experienced workers only creating a catch-22 because  training new engineers coming into the work force is that 'other guy's' job .

  • wtf? First off, people should be able to study whatever they want without the burden of such massive debts - education is a right, afterall. Also let's not forget that schools are not just job factories - they are also there to add to society's culture and for people to use their talents to better society. Unfortunately, not everyone is a genius at math and science.

Secondly, ANY undergrad degree is pretty much worthless nowadays. This means that whatever you study (whether 'practical' or not).

  • Education is RIGHT? Spoken like a true socialist.

  • Yes, thank you. I am a socialist... but apparently so is America since they signed the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which among many other things encourage countries "to make education free at all levels" - and at the very least accessible without discriminating against people.

But I guess like any other international mandate, the U.S. doesn't adhere - like peace.

  • by reading this message means you sit around and watch porn all day long with finacial aid money, and smoke crack and screw male prostitutes

  • lol

  • This is stupid on multiple levels. First, student loan payments don't grow the university; the school already got paid by Sallie Mae and isn't impacted by whether or not the lender gets paid. Second, you're feeding the beast more by not paying, because they'll add interest and attorney/late fees, then collect it from the guarantor (the government). Third, they will eventually garnish your wages/social security/tax refunds. Fourth, how is it you can afford a website but not minimum payments?

  • joker4747 hits the nail right on the head here!!!

  • lol dude ur still here! get a life man

  • Who has less of a life, the person commenting or the idiot that follows me around to comment on MY comments?

  • wasnt following just watched the video and saw u ranting again.

  • Well, have to admit you have a point here, lol!

  • websites cost like $90 a year. plus it probably makes him money.

  • Student loans DO "grow the university". The colleges and Sallie Mae collude to raise the price of college so that the colleges get more tuition and Sallie Mae gets bigger loan.

  • It's truly fucked, isn't it?

  • The United States government, in bed with corrupt corporations, spends trillions on corporate welfare (even for many businesses that harass clients and contribute nothing to our economy) and the Iraq War.

Yet the USA plunders its own young citizens when they need health care and an education? A banana republic in the making.

If this legalized racket goes on, we'll have a revolution in the USA. We already have massive emigration of the best skilled. A less painful solution- do some reforming!

  • You want an education so you can have a job that pays well. A company will pay for the education at a profit. You agree because you assume you will make enough out of college to pay. They hold up their end, and you dont. And it is their fault? It is not their fault that you chose a degree that does not pay. Without them, I would not be graduating with an engineering degree in Dec. The same goes for all those like me whose parents are neither rich nor poor. Stop celebrating a broken promise.

  • I am a college communications instructor -- really. And I use Mr. Kresling's song to stimulate student discussion. I appreciate his reasoning and believe his observations valid. Many nations have discovered that balancing "brutal freedoms" against "safety" can indeed be managed effectively without destroying the well-being of their populace.

  • But why would you care to stimulate such a conversation? Have you told them that the best thing they could do is to become a teacher? That way they can have all their student loans forgiven. Hmmm...I guess thats why I am around 300% above my principal, cant forget that we need more teachers.... so we can send more people to school....so we can loan them more money...... and watch the video again please.

  • It may strike some people as ironic, but I'm certain that the brutality lies in the "safety", but true safety comes from freedom.

  • Geeweeny, Brutal Freedoms, WTF?? For you people ALL freedoms are 'brutal'. You crave the control over the populace as you think you could 'manage' it more effectively than people choosing their own destiny. I hate you socialistic, friendly fascist scum. As to how I managed the University system surrounded by America haters I will never know...

  • lol "federal debt."

  • This is video is right on. The whole college experience is deteriorating because of greedy bastards taking advantage of young passionate kids who dont even understand the consequences of taking out a shark loan. You should feel like youre on top of the world when finishing college, not like a failure for taking out a bad loan that damages your quality of life.

  • I've been out of college for over 2 years and this is exactly how I feel. I was so excited about going to college, graduating, and making something of myself. Now I question whether it was a good idea at all. Now I get to pay the cost of college back for the next 18 years of my life. btw, I went to a state college.

  • Comment removed

  • I have no problem with the collage system; it's the college system that's inequitable.

  • I concur.

What happened to scary red haired guy's voice? He got quiet.

  • Hahaha. Brilliant.

  • @corbalt385 Lol. "Collage". Try High School.

But seriously, when you talk about a free market as being something good, you're talking about something else.

You assume that everyone is perfectly educated as a precondition, including education about the products, their prices, uses, and how they're made.

In other words, everyone could do it themselves - especially since another assumption of the perfect free market is that everyone has infinite money.

So much for the Free Market Myth.

  • @AzazelEblis This is called the "Perfect" or "Ideal" Free Market, and it has more conditions than that, which turn it into a pipe dream.

Yet, I've met Economics Graduates who didn't understand all of this... What a waste!

  • can i have the TABS to this song on the ukulele

  • For those going to college, there's another way (many other ways) to fund college other than student loans. If there's a will there's a way.

  • Learn from Dave Ramsey. Parents, pay off your debt and set up a college fund. That's what we'll be doing, we are now expecting our first child.

  • Dave Ramsey FTW!

  • The Beast is the College Matrix.

Unfortunately, when it's too late to turn back, one finds themselves in the belly of the Beast that is... The College Matrix.

  • I wish this video had been on MTV in 1981. You'd be a legend, raking in the bucks on the nostalgia circuit! A Flock Of Seagulls sucked compared to this! Great job.

  • eye-opening. college loans weren't nearly this bad when i went to college in the 1970s. fuck. the beast really does swallow its young. great job.

  • This is brilliant and wise. Do you realize how much freaking profit most Universities make off the students? The text books are deliberately tweaked every year to justify new editions so everyone has to buy crazy over priced books they can never re-sell or use for practical work place purposes. It is a scam. All my happy friends started their own businesses and skipped college all together. They are doing better than my friends with advanced "degree" thingies.

  • the high-pricing of books is outrageous.

  • Your "happy friends who started their own businesses" probably have to interact with "the public" (you know who I'm talking about here; go to any bus stop or police station and take a glance) more often than your "friends with advanced degree thingies". I'd rather have a job with an advanced degree and a boat load of debt than to have a job, be debt free and interact with the proles on a daily basis.

  • Problem is, what happens when you don't pay your fed student loans? Seize your funds, your assets (home, vehicles, etc.) & give you a criminal record so you can't get a job! Not that your degree will get you a job to begin with. Other thing to remember is that, like in the circle diagram, the lender is the fed. govt, & the recipients of the $ are.... the GOVT (unless you are going to a private school). Borrow from govt to pay govt for a piece of paper that gets you... NOTHING!

  • Criminal record? Wrong. This is not the 16th century where debtors' prison exists--a point made in the song. Nonpayment of student loans could very well be a rational decision for the person who correctly weighs their consequences of nonpayment against their benefits. Consider the fairly minimal consequences for a person living in a place where the U.S. government cannot garnish their wages. The worst thing would be having a bad credit rating. I might take $150k for a low credit rating.

  • Exactly, which is why this system is BEYOND fair. No other government in the world or private entity would tolerate out right theft of their loans. The EMO crying that I read on here is a product of generation y's attitude that they are entitled to everyting and should work for nothing.

  • Very well done

  • Ain't that the trueth.

  • I agree with the premise that the big FED monster is eating its young....check out Peter Schiff and Ron Paul if you agree. The debt machine has to keep chugging along so why not embroil young people with years and years of debt to get them into the NWO.

  • The most important thing college taught me: that I should not have gone to college.

  • This is one of the best Music Videos I have seen on YouTube from a band I have never heard of! I plan to check out is other stuff now. Glad I stumbled across this!

  • this is great. thanks for giving us the album.

  • Don't feed the hand that bites you.

  • well done!

  • i hope someone paid you to make this, matt =)

  • You are awesome and this video kicks ass!

  • Did you get a loan from Sally Mae?

  • Comment removed

  • Agreed.

  • I hate Sallie Mae!!! Post your horror stories on my website so we can inform people and not have them ruin their life by using Sallie Mae.

  • whos dat?

  • So funny how much MORE relevant this is now Matt after this was recorded a year ago. The new album is terrific! (although Breath Of Maidens is sadly missing) Thanks for the liner note performance credit BTW :)

  • The time you spent making this video could have been spent working to pay yo... hahaha just kidding, awesome song man, thanks!

  • Kick 'em in the junk, man!!! Fantastic!

  • I saw this the minute it came out and here I am, almost a year later, watching this again.

    Bravo on this video.

  • Every since I saw this almost a year ago, I keep coming back to this song when I'm feeling blue. Regardless of why I'm down in the dumps, this never fails to cheer me up- and even if the song didn't, the endless debate in the comments section would! Thank you for making a song that can make you laugh at some of the most terrible trivialities at life. <3

Also, The Uke really needs its own Facebook page. :D

  • Did you ever actually pay it off? haha.

  • witches eat their young, they don't swallow them.

  • Take this video as advice: don't take out anymore student loan money that you need and please plan out your repayments.

I know it's really hard sometimes but the hit to your credit report is not worth it. Get another job, call your lender, do what you need to do to keep your student loans out of default status.
