The train (RE13) has been taken over in december 2009 by a small train company named Eurobahn (belongs to the Keolis group) and so they don't have the red DB trains anymore but nice modern trains. See here:
@ Nexis4Jersey: not that I know of... it's just usual there: I can remember waiting at a level crossing at a shopping mall near the campsite we were staying in Germany. The crossing closed about 2 minutes before the train passed: nobody argues about it, they're used to it, but for me, it's pretty odd (and hard to guess from which direction the train will come)

@nicoruetters still a little long , most countries lower the gates 50-70sec before a train...
