  • Best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.....EVER.

  • I am so impressed that Jeremy Brett used his illness and continued to work, while struggling with this terrible disease of the mind.

  • That last bit had me in tears. When I watch Jeremy act it doesn't feel as if he is gone, he's too amazing to be gone.. but those last minutes in the video reminded me that only his memory lives on. So sad.

  • Jeremy Brett truely was sherlock holmes the two men could never be separated i think for him it helped him come to terms with himself and for us sherlock .

Jeremy Brett- Rest forever in peace.

  • omg i'm basically in tears!!

jeremy brett was so good, he truely was who holmes should be, him and holmes were one. but theres one thing i want to ask. if he died within a year of the final episodes, then did someone else become holmes, or did they stop the broadcast??

  • sakura they stopped the broadcast. no one could replace jeremy as holmes. no one. the interview with wogan when he completely changed to holmes is incredible.

  • thats a bit disapointing. i'd like to see the last episodes, but i can uderstand how no one could replace holmes. thank you for replying^^

  • ay dios mio, he is so amazing, so charming and enchanting, great catch!

  • He is the one and only Sherlock Holmes, I miss him so very very much. After his beloved wife died, he suffered so much - yet, used it in a way to reach a side of Sherlock NO other actor ever had done. Jeremy Brett was and remains amazing. Thank you so much for this..so very much.

  • yes brett was holmes as if holmes had been a real person

  • He was Holmes like no one else, and Holmes changed him the same way

    RIP Mr Brett

  • Roflaids,Of the SH videos released by MPI, most are remarkably close to the original stories. tho a few like The Noble Bachelor, are totally changed :( Very evocative of time & place (London & other British locations ca. 1890s.), like visiting another world -of their comfortable flat; then a desperate client -- -"the game's afoot" --& they rush off in a hansom cab to adventures at all levels of society. There are actually a few series from diff yrs - the 1st is The Adventures of S.H.

  • This was very insightful for me in realizing that many of Holmes' demons were actually part of JB's too. It gives or adds so much more to the acting of a difficult character. I loved JB's portrayal of Holmes. It was rich, exceptional, and masterfully completed. I miss him!

  • Thanks for putting this up. I am a great fan of the Holmes canon and was surprised at how well (most of) the Granada shows captured the stories. The most amazing thing about it was Jeremy Brett's masterful portrayal of Holmes. It's interesting to hear him talk of playing the character. He did a wonderful job of playing the cold calculating machine surface persona but managing to show, via occasional "cracks in the marble --glimmers", something deeper under the surface.

  • You sure hit the nail on the head there. Thanks for your insightful comments:)

  • Where is the last part from? (Holmes talking to Watson about his dream).

  • probably The Dying Detective.

  • I found it, it's from the Noble Bachelor. (Dark and creepy movie).

  • A master craftsman.

With the greatest respect to all other actors who have played the part of Holmes, they are mere imposters next to Jeremy Brett.

  • Brett probably is the best Holmes actor there will ever be, which is an excellent reasaon for script writers to try to invent new Great Detectives, rather than attempting to return to Holms again and again - now that he has been done to perfection on television.

And they are already hard at work, probably at least in part due to Brett: Gregory House and Robert Goren, even Adrian Monk.

Quite possibly all invented because the studios have realized that Brett can't be outdone as Holmes.

  • Why do you say that, are you self destructive? I have to say I have a hard time picturing wanting to make it to 60 at times. I'm not self destructive as such but I am highly vulnerable emotionally. However maybe time changes things...

  • he looks so ill in that clip where he describes the dream. it's sad to see.

  • It is, for those like myself who have learned so much about him, it can be a bit unbearable to see. I can't watch him like that. *sigh*

  • jeremy was the perfect holmes. he was exactly what i pictured in my minds eye when i read and fell in love with the books at age 15

  • is this supposed to be conan doyle narrating? i'm confused

  • I always liked that shock of white hair to the side of his head. Even when it was covered in black hair dye I could still see it. Maybe I like it so much because it makes me grateful he at least got to live to an age where he'd have some white hair and got to play Sherlock so I got to 'know him'. I prefer the real him to Sherlock anyday. I jst wish all the horrible things never happened to him. I often wonder why they did. *sigh*

  • So sad. Jeremy Brett was such a brilliant actor. I love the part where they're interviewing him and he suddenly slips into Holmes, it's amazing to see that transition happen. When I see Brett I see Holmes but that little transition state is magic.

  • That video is so touching! It is such a shame that he had to go, and im even more sad because i didnt even have the chance to walk the same earth as him! *sigh* but still, very nice video all the same

  • Oh dear Brett! I know how you feel luv. Wish I could have met him. Dear dear man. A toast to you dear Prince.

  • This is great! Jeremy Brett is the most perfect and quintessential Holmes in history. I always loved the stories so much, and I still find that it is a thrill to watch him as Holmes. Conan Doyle himself could not have asked for a more perfect interpretation of his wonderful character. Thank you!

  • I quote danahanne. jeremy Brett is great!

  • I love love love it!!!! Thank you very much for sharing.

  • Jeremy is a legacy. I have every episode and love them all. The fact that the series was never completed due to his passing creates a sense that it should and never will truly end. One of my idols, I study him today. Thanks for the vid!

  • Thank you so much for sharing!

  • JEREMY!!!!!!! I have that wogan interview with JB on DVD but it's blury. If only they'd rerun that Wogan show! I think the Sherlock bozset should be reissed with Jeremy Brett tv apperances/interviews.

  • Wow! I was watching "Love actually" the other day and I saw Edward Hardwicke in it! Hes just a back ground person, but there he is!!

  • the pleasure is all mine:) btw, I didin't know he was first hospitalized as early as 1986. Thought he developed bipolar in early 90s?

  • aw man this is great! like everyone said, thanks for uploading.

heehee, I love that clip from the interview at 3:25 or so, where he suddenly becomes Holmes, than Watson, then Holmes again. He's really brilliant, isn't he?
