  • if i were an umpire, I'de never take anyone seriously if they yelled in my face and had their hands behind their back

  • Clell LAVERN Hobson

  • Wow those are the ugliest uniforms I have ever seen on a baseball field.

  • looks like he *takes off sunglasses* stole a base and went home

  • @mariomaker2000 YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

  • Clell Hobson deserved to be ejected --- again. Yes, that's Butch's real name --- Clell.

  • Lets be fair, Im glad the first base ump got the call right, dont get me wrong, but you need to expect that the other manager is going to come out and give you a hard time, and frankly you deserve it for being out of position and not making the right call. I have no idea what he said to get ejected, but he was entitled to scream at the guy.

  • Ya think this announcer is from "Bahston" ? What a New England accent he has.

  • ENTERTAINING?!?! I guess, since the game is so fucking boring. its like watching my kid lose his shit because i wont buy him another toy

  • I love when managers do this. So entertaining when they throw these tantrums.

  • They shoulda let the kid keep it

  • really the spirt and pride as baseball team names? only in canada

  • Umpiah.

  • Nice! I hope that kid got a base for his trouble.

  • why would you take the base away from a child?

  • Ahahaha!! I don't watch baseball for baseball, I watch baseball for all the sassy bitch fits with the umpires.

  • i absolutely lovee my cousin:)

  • what league is this?

  • @KESHAandCYRUS It was in the Can-Am League, an indy league.

  • Good on these umps for getting the call right. The first coach did the right thing by being reasonable and simply asking the ump to ask the homeplate ump what he saw, call gets reversed. Good on em. I know butch was pissed, and I would be too, but at the end of the day its about getting the call right PERIOD

  • Kudos to the 2 umpires for remembering that above all, the important thing is to get the call right. The 1B umpire took a bit of shit, as he should have, and then Butch went too far, so he got what he deserved. Kudos as well to the Spirit manager for his calm, rational argument. This should be shown to all coaches in all cities, states, provinces.

  • i hope that kid got the base after the game.. you can't just take it from the kid..

  • WOW YOUR EJECTED

  • Ahahah 1st base umpire walks like a queer!!!!

  • The announcer is so boring and monotone he should be on NPR

  • That dumbfuck coach doesn't know the rules. And umpires can ask for an appeal if there is any doubt as to the call being right. The moment the appeal overturns the play then tough shit. Game over. The umps got the call correct on appeal. I wish more umps would do this. That coach is a whiny little bitch.

  • Now you know why Umpires HATE to reverse desitions....its nut's like these. They did the right thing by reviewing and making the "Correct" call and they get spat at. The other coach would of accepted either outcome too.

  • he walks like a gay midget

  • what a baby hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha !

  • I played for Butch in 2005 during my rookie year. Man do I have some funny tales about my short time there. I was traded within a week. But it was a fun week. His reaction seems like good ol Butch. During my first game in Somerset, some players were not hustling. He put a helmet on and got a bat and went to the box to show us how we looked not hustling down the line. Stadium was packed. then he came back and said none of us had the heart to F#$% with him. lol Priceless

  • That was cool.

  • B.J Weed looool

  • Most of the time, the only souvenirs you get at a baseball game are baseballs or the shirts they sometimes throw to the crowd.

Not many people can say they got a 'souvenir base' from the game. :D

  • This video features small children acting more mature than baseball managers.

  • Hobson had a complaint. But he laid hands on an umpire when the umpire tried to stop him from pullng the bag. He should have been suspended right there and then

  • that commentator is from long island

  • butch hobson is one of the most legit coaches a baseball player could hope for. hes funny as hell too, his son kc was on my high school team and he helped coach us. we called him zeus because of his white hair haha

  • i rememebr when Hobson was the Red Sox manager in the Mid 90's

  • so would that count as a stolen base?!? hah hah hah...

...sorry. it had to be said.

  • You know what, tip of the cap to Butch Hobson. Went out and pleaded his point that the first base umpire should not ask for help unless obstruction of view. Therefore, he was being a good manager. And how about making some kid's day and provide some entertainment to a baseball game? The kid got the base after the game. Managers arguing is part of the game, of course this isn't the right way to handle it, but this video put a smile on my face. Have a good one.

  • The first manager challenged the play the way it should be. He remained calm and asked the first base umpire to check with the one at home plate. Butch...not so much.

  • the guy just had to take the kid's base

  • what a lil bitch, just ruin the game for everyone because the ump made the RIGHT call

  • I would have gotten ran as well. If the 1st base ump can't make that call then what is the point of him even being out there. That is his call and really needs no help. Terrible...

  • This is why all baseball games do NOT need instant replay.

  • Second

  • this is why all baseball games need instant replays

  • absolutely wonderful!!!!

  • im glad yer laughin' cause thats not what he was doin

  • IF You Pause At 3:26, It Looks Like He's Touching The Umpire's Penis. LOL

  • LOL

  • That was fantastic!

  • I thought that was great..... i like when the manager shows some personality. My favorite memory of going to major league games was when tommy lasorda would come play the giants and wed boo him and hed give it right back to us blowing kisses to the giants fans and egging it on.....good fun.

  • The player was clearly out and then a little bitching to an umpire reversing a decision makes the other coach bitchy and then he's booted from the game. Clearly the umpire is biased and the ejected coach was too dramatic

  • clearly out, he wasn't even on the bag and had no control of the ball

  • wow what the hell is up with the anouncer

  • worst announcer ever

  • That was unbelievably awesome.

  • After a coach or player is ejected from the field, he should be removed from the field. Period. This is the kind of garbage that ruins the integrity of the game. The first plate umpire appealed, and his call was over-turned by the umpire. That is the proper mechanic. He also pushed the third official, which is assault. Great example for a little kid to learn from. Maybe 10 years from now, he'll show you the bag when he beats you over the head w/ it and steals your car.

  • Mike Scioa (the angels manager) once said "if you're gonna get ejected, get your money's worth out of it." I'd say Butch Hobson got his money's worth out of it!

  • Another great call from Matt Criss! keep it up buddy! I wasn't even that close at first waht a terrible job of calling him out at first

  • I believe that this occurred during the MiLB umpire strike. Heck I am an umpire and I could have gotten that call right. I wonder where they get these guys from.

  • "He threw the best tantrum I'd ever seen at Fraser Field"

u rank ur best tantrums on which field they are on?

  • I'm just saying I've seen a lot of tantrums there--and that was by far the best

  • John Hoffman is the worst announcer ever, and it seems like everyone else agrees. I was also pleased at how Vic Davilla handled the situation, and not pleased at Hobson's tirade, although it was entertaining. Boy, do I miss the North Shore Spirit.

  • Best - tirade - ever. "Hey kid. Take first base. Go on, take it."

  • The runner was safe. I loved it when Hobson gave the kid the bag. He should've been allowed to keep it. I'm sure the stadium had a spare bag somewhere.

  • Very good sportsmanship by the first coach. I am a basketball and soccer referee, plan on taking up baseball or softball after I graduate from college. I've dealt with many different kinds of coaches and parents/fans. It's funny half the stuff some of these coaches says sometime, especially when they say something that is contrary to the rules, and they know it. Anyways, great overturn on the 1st base umpire, very well controlled.

  • lawls wow

  • weird commentator

  • WOW SUPERB JOB BY THAT 1ST BASE UMPIRE....he took the heat from the first coach, then appeald the call when the appeal was asked. then made the call right and handeld it like a pro. THEN he took the heat from the other coach till it just got out of hand.

FUCK THAT OTHER COACH..MAKIN A FOOL OF HIMSELF.

no wonder hes a mgr in the indie leauges lol

  • i think thats what burt reynolds would look like without a moustache.

  • glad ya made it right and called him safe. He was safe. The old mans a moron.

  • how was he out? He wasn't even close to the bag nor did he tad the damn base? Bad call Blue.

  • It's one thing to throw a tantrum as a coach, but it's quite another to delay the game like this. What an asshole.

  • for once the umpires did the right thing.

  • kinda like the 1985 world series Royals/Cardinals, remember that?

  • they should've let the kid keep it and charge the manager for another bag.

  • cranky old man

  • lol, i thought he was going to throw it off the top of the stands.

  • wtf. that wasn't even close. that guy was safe routinely.

  • I guess you could say that the manager stole 1st base. LOL.

  • Butch, sit down fool. You look like a female Butch. Did you notice how Butch walks? Butch walks funny. I bet Butch is funny, he walks like a girly man. Are you a Girly Man Butch?

  • bcross, why don't you ask him to his face?

  • His breath stinks

  • I loved how the umpire tried to keep him from taking the bag.

  • If he was blocked by the sun that badly, he should have went to the plate ump immediately.

Hobson was right, not because the call was wrong, but because they changed it AFTER the opposing coach came out to argue.

Stealing the base was icing on the cake.

  • Hobson wasnt right. About 5-6 years ago, the emphasis was changed in umpiring. It used to be "live and die with your call", right or wrong. It was changed to "get the call right". Because sometimes we miss em. This was handled EXACTLY as its supposed to be. Make the call. Off coach comes out, states his case. Now, if there is "doubt" in our mind, we might get help. If we are 100% sure we dont. Here, obviously, umpire probably knew he missed something, so he gets help. Call changed, play on.

  • Also..Yes, on a rare occasion the umpire can go to his partner, and ask for help, without solicitation from the coach. But thats not the way its done. You can agree or not. From the majors on down, if you get request to get help, its up to you. If your sure, you dont. Doubt, you do. Just the way it is. Trust me, there will be a time when Hobson will go out, because of a call, and ask the umpire to get help. Shouldnt the umpires try to get it right for him also? If thats the case?

  • He didn't go to his partner to ask for help. He went AFTER Davilla protested and asked him to check with plate umpire. If he thought he needed help, he didn't heed to wait for the coach to come and point it out to him did he?

  • Did you notice that the first coach came out and talked semi-respectful? He got the call. Did you notice that the second didn't and got tossed? Heres a lesson to you people who don't umpire. If you want an umpire to listen to you, PIPE DOWN! Talk to him with respect and he WILL respect you and try to get the call right. If you come out heollering at him, he really won't want to waste his time with you.

  • I remember a call i made where the first base coach was complaing after the inning end.

Only little leauge though the runner was out for missing the bag. so they threw back to bag

he out. I didnt eject him. Though i ejected someone else.

  • his son plays for my highschool

  • hey me too.

  • why does he talk about the sun?

  • 1) SEE: comment below this one

    2) It can get in the batter's eyes from time to time when it's sunset

  • worst play-by-play announcer I've heard in a long time.

  • i don't get it. what's wrong with him?

  • He doesn't know what's going on. He stumbles. He's got a terrible voice. It's not fluent-There's far too much dead air. He doesn't know the rules, has obviously never umpired.

" I'm gonna give ya a lot da cap, da cap"

As both a broadcaster and an umpire, he needs work.

  • I hate baseball managers

  • dude butch is a coach on my varsiy bseball team

  • has he had a tantrum like this ever

  • Now that's what i call stealing a base!

  • Every time I watch this, it gets funnier. I think he was out, looks like the guy's foot was way off the bag. Butch is setting a bad example of sportsmanship for the kids with his tantrum, but you can't help laughing when he takes the time to walk all the way up the stairs to hand the bag off to someone. Who wound up winning??

  • hahaha,it is funny--and nashua shall miss his tirades XD

i agree,it isnt setting a great example-but it IS entertaining, and thats what these teams aim to give.

And if you wanna know who won, watch the video response to this......

  • That was crazy! But I would have ran like a bat out of hell as soon as I got that base.

  • the ref doesnt like it when Butch bobs his head at him like a chicken

  • 1) i thought his neck would break-he moved it around so much XD

    2) They're called umpires

  • They got it right so congrats for that but what's up with the non-matching unmdershirts? The third base ump has a white tee underneath and the first base ump has a dark blue mock neck. Proper appearance buys you some credibility

  • And...stepping on the bag to stop the coach from taking it? Come on! How dumb do you look chasing the coach to the fence?!?!

  • I was in the dugout he was arguing more over the fact that they changed the call, after talking to Vic

  • That's what I meant to put in the description....but I didn't for some odd reason XD

But thanks for that.....anonymous person I don't know. I shall correct--and add something....

  • ALL coaches when a call goes against them come out and argue, and sometimes want the umpire to "get help". When we do, and thus like this video, get the call right, they get pissed that the call was overturned after a conference. Do they want us to get help sometimes or not? If we dont, sometimes missed calls will stay that way, missed. But if we do, it also means, we will get the calls right on some we miss, but that also means sometimes those calls will go against you, cant have it both ways

  • lol there was no way he was out. Hobson should have been smart like the first manager by talking calmly about it since he didn't get mad and everything turned out fine for him. Poor kid though, they should give him the base haha

  • that was crap that kid deserved 2 keep the base! this vid made me unhappy =v(

  • Plus Hobson hit the umpire's leg when he was attempting to remove first base--did he get a suspension and fine for that??

  • He did get a one-day suspension......I think it was only one because he's a "big name" in the league. As for a fine, idk

  • No Hobson didn't get anything for touching the umpire. In fact he was almost praised for it by the league. The league is fucked up like that with a bunch of corporate TOOLS!!

  • dmstrdman---CLEARLY AN OUT??!!??!! First base ump was daydreaming when he called him out--at least he didn't let his ego get in the way and the correct call was made. No possession of the ball until he was WAY off the bag.

  • It may not look like it but his foot was off the bag. The people shooting this game arenb't the most experienced camerapeople.....for this is community tv.

But i saw the play and his book was CLEARLY off the bag. As for the ump,IDK if he was daydreaming or not.....but with the umps in this league it's a possibility ;-)

ALSO: Hobson had done that twice before this season XD

  • lol :} nice ejection get him out of here

  • butch hobson = drunk old cokehead geezer piece of crap.
