Thanks for the comment. The lens I used was the standard kit lens that comes with the camera (18-55). So far I've only added the 35/1.8 and the 55-200 lenses to my kit. And, of course, I'm using the D5000 now. My upgrade to the D7000 at some point, but my sights are on adding the FujiFilm Finepix X100.
any post processing with this shots? or just straight off the camera? very inspiring, i have the D5000 & SB-400 as well,im planning to sell it but with your video,im having 2nd thoughts...Cheers!
Your camera is plenty for shooting. But it is the photographer that makes the picture with his knowledge of light placement. I laugh when I see critiques about the "required" exclusions of shadows. Such comments are public admissions of ignorance. Your images are superb. Keep shooting.
Hey these photos are great! My friend introduced me to this camera and I'm thinking about trying to find it and buy it. I'm NOOOOO photographer and I was curious was setting you used to take these shots? DO you think I would get the same affect if I used the automatic settings?
Nice shots! Truth is, all cameras can take great pictures but people expect top quality cameras for the price they pay. I have a friend that was expected to use a Hasselblad from a corporation paying $10,000+ You can't walk in with a $15 kodak and explain "Its not the camera that takes the pictures." Can a D40 take the same pic? Sure it can! D40-D90=Free or small pay, D300-D700=Decent money, D3-D3X=BIG MONEY SHOOTS. If your not making money and own a D300 or better, your kidding yourself.
And to add to my last statement, if you are making good money with a D40, then your 100 steps ahead of most other photographers, but if you make good money, why wouldn't anyone want to upgrade their camera.. :)
Again, Good work! I even liked the toilet scene. People acting like its wrong....like they don't ever take a shit! hahaha!
@creamofbeats Very true, I have a sony hvr-z1e and is a semi pro camera which TV channels use a lot these days, I also have a Canon HF 200 which givems better image quality but you can't walk into film a wedding with it, people expect to see something big and amazing on your shoulder with lights and buttons all over it!! They don't know what the end results can turn out like using a much smaller hand held Canon jajaj!!
@TheAmazingShua Apparently there's something you are having a difficult time understanding. That is that photography is about capturing what is, as opposed originating what is.
Again, where in there does morals come in? Will you argue that the tree didn't fall because you didn't hear it or see it?
@TheAmazingShua LOL....I see. You are an idiot. But let me help you with this. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that can't be photographed and there are legitimate reasons for photographing anything, including someone on the toilet. (By-the-way, she wasn't using the toilet.)
@TheAmazingShua I will agree that the US has very little moral values left but you shouldn't be talking because the UK is just as bad. Where the hell did morals come from with this? In this case it's ART! Not PORN! Do you honestly think she was taking a shit?? And please don't say that you think a tree hasn't fallen just because you didn't see it or hear it. Do you also think the world is flat and the earth is the center of the universe? This is a photography video, not a religious video.
Great work mate I like it but I can see that u need one more flashgun as on all of your pic the model's shawdow was realy strong on the background. Or Try to bounce it with a reflecter. N good luck
Wow, I'm inspired by your shots ! I have a limited budget so will be buying the D40 kit and SB-400 as my set, I'll see what I can do without the extra flash. Thanks!
Awesome shoot. I just upgraded to a d7000 from a d40 and wow! What a difference right?

Definitely can tell that your a noob at shooting. Word of advice. Get rid of the shadows in the background. Photoshop them and color fill them.

@ugomma Probably. The trick wasn't so much in the settings as it was in the placement of the light.

very nice. Lots to do with a D40, it's just a matter of who's hands it's in.
well done

I've traded the D40 for the D5000. I'm loving the D5000, however, there are situations where I'd prefer the D40.

"Thanks, I agree. By the way, I did upgrade to the Nikon D5000.."
That proves the old cliche, "It's not the camera, it's..."
D5000 isn't anywherer close to top of the line either.
Your work is impressive.

@TheAmazingShua Additionally, any talk of "Morals" or "Values" in these United States is total rhetoric, in other words Bull Shit.
