I was at the Hammersmith Odeon London when WR played there and it was life changing...they spread powder on the stage for Jaco to stamp his feet,,,smoke rising to a finale...............and then the train........WOWOWOW!!!
I get bumps everytime I hear this.............Thanks
Slow down the high speed voice at the start of this piece (1:10 onwards). I think it`s Islamic. Very, very beautiful. Don`t know where Zawinul got the original tape from.
When I was in the navy,I would think of this piece whenever I had to do the mile and a half run.Especially the part where Jaco executes that arm burning bass run at 4:06.
Hey Hey Hey -- Great to read such nice comments about Sweetnighter - a really great record. Haven't heard it in years, it never made the transition from LP to CD. Gonna have to buy it I guess. I'm thinking there is a really outstanding piece by Miroslav on there... Also, I believe this was the end of the "recorded" road with WR for that wonderful player...
Boogie Woogie Waltz comes from the tremendous "Sweet Nighter" which I believe is their best. Check out the track "125 Street Congress" without question the best groove they ever laid down and Wayne Shorter just blows amazing. I never thought of Zawinul as a soloist in the classic style, and on that track he delivers this a mix of wah wah pedeled electric paino chords that's just incredible.
Saludos!
Well, the video on this doesn't seem to be around on this site, but the sound on this 8:30 recording of Badia Woogie Woogie Waltz is simply phenomenal - particularly that final wind up at the end, with the freight train, et al - an absolutely superb art/fusion piece of glory and energy - WOW!!!
I gave everyone a THUMBS UP on their comments, Long Live Weather Report!!
