@katennan If you compare the actual comments with the preview clips from their other stuff, you can see the producers edited it to make it look like Folds was seriously criticizing them, when in reality he was just saying "You took a Ke$ha song and gave it a melody, which is kinda weird, and it didn't quite work for me." He still thought it was good.
Even if he didn't, that criticism basically amounts to "You took something that barely qualifies as music, and made it music." I'm all for that.

What mitch did during that break down was just amazing. Seriously amazing. I really took me like 4-5 times over just that part to really appreciate it. I cant wait to hear more from you guys.
Oh, and the absolutely best way to hear Avi do his amazing thing is through a speaker system, on an ipod or similar. You can't hear him as well in these television performances, but in my car? Whoo hoo, he knocks the speakers out!!!

I thought their version was great and SUPER interesting! It amazed me that they could even hear that arrangement when they heard the original tune. I didn't like the original, but this version was amazing!

I understand Ben's criticism. PTX always arranges the trio in thirds. That plus their baseline doesn't let the "is my drug" line resolve like the original track. Adding the extra note makes the chord more interesting but makes the wrong part of the line stand out. "Your love, your love, your love" should stand out but it doesn't here, so "is my drug" stands out and that's less interesting musically. Since the hook never resolves, the line isn't as catchy. Otherwise a stellar arrangement. =)
I really didn't understand why the judges didn't like this. Nothing wrong with changing up a song that was rather crappy to begin with and actually making it GOOD.
i honestly don't get what the judges mean. this is way better than the original! there were some lapses in the harmony but this version is actually better than kesha's.

So on my 832nd listen, I finally noticed how awesomely Mitch and Kirstie seamlessly switch back and forth at 2:48 - 2:54 during the "freak-out" section. They are CRAZY in-sync!
I never understood Ben's complaint about the melody at the top of the song. The melody does exist in the original song as well but it's done in bass instead.
@trogdormaster1 Yessss, more remix/dubstep!! Listening back to all their S/O performances, this one was the most ambitious. Makes one wonder what *else* they are capable of in the remix/dubstep department....
I always go back and listen to the original after pentatonix does it and i ALWAYS like the pentatonix arrangement better. They actually make me disappointed in the original when I was perfectly fine with it before
I watched the last few episodes....whenever they referenced this performance, they made it seem like the judges hated it completely. But...the critique wasn't that bad -.-
I think the judges just felt the need to make them sweat early in the season and see how they dealt with the pressure. Where's the drama if they're always like "OMG YOU GUYS ARE SO AWESOME!!!!!!111oneonesparkles!!!!!!" the whole season long? :P
I personally thought this was sick. I don't know how the judges found anything wrong with it. Everything they did was pitch perfect and in perfect sync.
So... They were basically criticized for introducing more "musicality" into a song by incorporating actual SINGING into an a capella arrangement. How dare they! It's called the Speak-Sing Off for a reason!

I never understood Ben's complaint about the melody at the top of the song. The melody does exist in the original song as well but it's done in bass instead.

I always go back and listen to the original after pentatonix does it and i ALWAYS like the pentatonix arrangement better. They actually make me disappointed in the original when I was perfectly fine with it before

I think the judges just felt the need to make them sweat early in the season and see how they dealt with the pressure. Where's the drama if they're always like "OMG YOU GUYS ARE SO AWESOME!!!!!!111oneonesparkles!!!!!!" the whole season long? :P

I personally thought this was sick. I don't know how the judges found anything wrong with it. Everything they did was pitch perfect and in perfect sync.
