alright I figured it out. the iPhone uses something called a rolling shutter which instead of recording frame by frame records by scanning horizonaly or vertically so the whole frame isn't captured at once which ends up looking really bizarre if the thing you're recording is moving really fast because from the time it starts recording a frame to the time it finishes, the object is already in a different spot. the same thing would happen if you recorded a fast car driving by
@snufleufugus Exactly. Its not just the iPhone. It's ANY cmos sensor camera (almost all point and shoots and small/cheap cameras). The iPhone's fast shutter speed just seems to exaggerate it more than normal.
@snufleufugus I guess it's a question of shooting fps vs propeller revolution speed. (like mags of a car rolling backwards when you see them in some movies)
