  • Homestead is right outside Pittsburgh. They did play some games in DC. But they are from Pittsburgh not Washington!

  • I just found out these are my ancestors not to long ago. This is pretty sweet!! I kinda see why I play baseball

  • Very good upload!!

  • Homestead Greys were like and allstar team they had so many great players as pitcher Smokey Joe Williams centerfielder Oscar Charleston the greatest player of the 1920's.They had Thirdbaseman Judy Johnson and Shortstop Martin Dihigo and another great outfielder Cool Papa Bell in 1930 they added the greatest catcher of all time from the Pittsburg sandlots named Josh Gibson and in 1934 they brought in the great firstbaseman from North Carolina Buck Leonard for two decades they were the best team.

  • The Homestead Grays also played in pittsburgh.

  • Man I never knew they played in DC

  • I live in San Francisco now, but was born in Homestead and moved away when I was two. But, the stories of the Homestead Grays are alive in me. My grandfather was an Irish Catholic steel worker in the Homestead Steel Works, just like his father, and he used to watch the Grays practice. As a kid, he used to shag balls for the Grays, and one day he was drilled in the back by a Gibson line drive. They thought he was hurt badly and was taken to the hospital. He recovered, and Gibson apologized after.

  • This stuff never gets old to me from time to time somebody opens their big mouth criticizing Negro League players but this is great to hear. The stats on Josh Gibson compared to everybody else at Griffith Stadium is amazing.

  • Real good stuff, you should also check out the movie "The Soul of The Game" its based on the Negro leagues and how the Dodgers went about to bring in Jackie Robinson to break the color line.

  • The grays were the best negro league team of all time

  • The Homestead Grays were some of the best batters.Especially a famous player named Josh Gibson, but he died at the age of 35.Josh Gibson was an American catcher in baseball's Negro Leagues. He played for the Homestead Grays from 1930 to 1931, moved to the Pittsburgh Crawfords from 1932 to 1936, and returned to the Grays from 1937 to 1939 and 1942 to 1946.

  • got discovered in a crowd, amazing and unfortunate story in baseball's lore

  • There was a man in Pittsburgh (Mt. Oliver) who played for the Grays....last name was Bruce...anyone know anything about him? He worked at the Post Office in Mt. Oliver...his daughter a basketball star at Pitt.

  • go burghers!

  • Good stuff!
