@musicmuch101 form a shape with a piece of posterboard. That will work. Then you can make it any shape or size you want.

I love this tutorial. I made one recently following this video!! Thanks a million! Mine is a red dragon :P I use a smaller balloon to make it less chubby, and added snout-shape cardboard to make a more reptile face. My son loves it so much we didn't break it - I just make the hole bigger and spill the candies to the floor LOL

You are very welcome! A dragon pinata is a unique project. I recommend you make a cardboard sword to go with it. Would be a great theme.

Thanks for this tutorial. Very cute dragon. I might try to do this one for my son's b-day. But my daughter's birthday is next and I was going to try to make a fish. It's drying right now. The thing I worry about is the pinata ripping from the string that's holding it up and having it fall to the ground. I have some zip ties, would work/hold better?

It would not be the same if I buy one, I have time, plus I like crafts :) Another thing that some might consider is that a simple pinata is worth $30 more or less, if you want to make one, all you need is will, a balloon, newspapers, some glue and time. :D

I think its adorable!!! Like they say, small and chubby, but super cute, a baby dragon!! babies are small and chubbies :) Love the idea, I am trying to do a pinata for my son's birthday but don't have a clue on what shape, the ordinary one, round I guess :( shame I am not doing a fantasy dragon theme :( would have been a great hit!! I actually did this for my Nephew and he loved it...he is only 5 but I bought him a little suit of armor and a shield/sword and he had a total blast.

Its ok, you are right. My first try at a pinata let alone a dragon! I may try doing a better one in the future. It is better than a plain old ball pinata though imho.
