maybe what this book was describing was all taking place during massive public events, such as people standing up, pushing each other and expecting to be in contact with other bodies - which is what a thief would take advantage of - the easiest way to steal would be to suddenly put a big pressure on another part of the body while quickly taking out the wallet :D

The reason you didn't notice this is because you only notice the stronger or "dominant" force being applied to your body and not the weaker force of your wallet being slid out of your pocket. Also you become accustomed to having your wallet in your pocket after a while to which it feels as if it is not there so you forget about it :)
