Jesus was beat down every way he turned and still loves us anyway. He gave his life for us to be forgiven and have Heaven for our eternal home. Please accept Jesus as your Savior and live for and love God and have satan be defeated.
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
One day we wont have to worry about that.....this song kicks ass
@mrsriggs100 Does being in church offend you or something? No matter where you're at...Jesus is the only one who can get you to Heaven through the blood he shed for you and me.
@larrypetree "The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord." Proverbs 15:8, remember this next time you judge somebody and try to throw them on the fires of Hell because you are just throwing yourself on them. We are here to show this great singer and man love, he may not have lived like a Christian. Heck none of us do no matter how we say we do, this is why Jesus died for our sins so no matter how bad we will always be forgiven when calling on our Lord's name for forgivness.
@larrypetree Look at you quoting God like your a saint, we all fall short of the Lord's righteousness. His life being taken by drugs is no different than a thief taking another's life. He did die from 2 shots of vitamin B12 that also contained a quarter grain of morphine after he had been drinking a mix of chloral hydrate and alcohol, so his driver advised for him to see a doctor and the doc gave him the 2 shots in which he later died from the mixture causing an overdose. Dont judge his soul.
@CharlieEst1981 Your first statement to larrypetree was purty judgmental, no? Stay firm on the path, and do not be led astray by anger or pride. Im not casting any first stone, I am shot full of flaws, but I do my best to try to follow the path. I only pass this along in good spirit, just as the Bible, and I Saw the Lights says, "Straight is the Gate and Narrow's the way. We have to be diligent in our words and actions, that we may not stumble when reaching a lifting hand to one another. Peace.
@painxtreme I apologize if it did seem as I was judging, if it was taken that way I certainly did not mean for it to come out that way. Judging another man's actions is definetly what somebody like me has no right in doing. That first half of the sentence I wrote on the first letter may have came out as judging but I was not judging the man. Possibly reacting to emotions because I dont take people talking about somebody like Hank Sr like he was the worst man in the world.
He had his downfalls like everybody, this is the reason Jesus died for our sins because no mortal man could ever keep the Law of Moses and never live a life without sin. All of us sin daily whether we realize or not. Once I can I do offer my apologies if it was taken as judging another man. Happy Thanksgiving.
@CharlieEst1981 I didn't think it was in your heart to do so, reading the entire post. It was as much a reminder to me as you or any of us, the deceit of the world is so strong, and crafty, that we always must be wary of the tricks that the evil one tries to slip into our deeds almost every minute. Joy to you in your life.
Hank Williams questioned life as he experienced the ebb and flow of his complicated personal life and his musical career. Searching for answers, his release in writing and performing allows a peek into what he was thinking about when he wrote the song.
Hank sings about his experiences; he's not preaching, he's sharing his journey with us.
He slows our desire for instant communication of thoughts and words.
Hank rolls slower and he was unimpressed with human leeches.
Hanks had been sober for quite a while before he died. I am not about to judge him. That is God's business. I just know there will never be another one like him. He wrote songs that are still sung today.
@Godskid66 In fact he was born with Spinabifida, which even today, doesn't have the greatest rate of surviving childhood, though major strides have been made. In many ways, it is a miracle that in that time, he survived it, and played show after show (and some no shows, as we know), because medicine wasn't anywhere near now. I have a spinal tumor and 3 collapsed disks..I don't know how the man did it, I'm on a heavy regimen of opiates for life, and still I couldn't perform a show now.
@Godskid66 Bless you for those kind words. One often encounters a lot of meanness online, and it is always warm comfort to hear nice things said. I wasn't aware of his horseback accident, but I don't doubt it a bit. Theres kinda a curse on tall folk. Im 6'3" and never could completely correct my posture, and of course, circulation is less. My oldest son is 6'7", and he already feels the inconvenience, and body stress, even at 25.
Blessings upon you, and I pray that peace of mind follows you.
@painxtreme I find it sad that today's so called "country" music is trash. I grew up on Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Hankl Snow, Johnny Cash....and the list goes on. I espicially love Minnie Pearl. I have arthritus in my knees and my L-5 vertebrea is ruptured, but I just praise God I am able to walk!!
When I saw the video of III performing on the Grand Ole Opry, and Little Jimmy Dickens saying what a great friend and nice young man he was, I wondered how long that would last. To many Tats!
here lies a man who saw and sang of the life he saw all around him.and may he rest in the life he prayed for in prayer to god and in the songs he sang for you and me.
AGREED. We all who have lived a little in life can see two sides to every story. If you judged people for singing their feelings or thoughts, well we wouldnt be listening to this BEAUTIFUL music. If Hank stopped recording because of what people thought of him we couldn't close our eyes throw that switch on that 45 and just feel every word, every note, and that heart ache.
First, I would like to say that I have been a Hank Sr. fan ever since I first heard him when I was a small child and I'm not trying to start beef. But, I would prefer to think that a Christian man like Hank would have been more forgiving than many of you give him credit for. He was a true alcoholic and I think he would understand what his grandson has gone through in life.
If you can find the book, it really shows how greedy some people can be. Even, surprisingly, to their own family. I know it's one side of the deal, but I see it now happening again. I hope Hank Jr. will help his son out and help promote him. He could be the father he himself never had. Until then, I agree with Hank III. If you can't even help your own, then one of these days,my friend, you'r gonna be all alone,,,
Nowhere even close is Hank the III. Can you not see how he has thrown his life away? Hank SR had his problems but he was a believer in his saviour. Do you really think Hank SR would be proud of his grandson cursing GOD, and what all like he does. Come on, be serious. I'm not singling you, I am singling out the notion that they are the same, they are not, and others know that too.
@BlueMonster78 No offence taken. However, it is you who is mistaken. Hank III is young and may be raising a little hell, but so did Hank Sr. Please don't judge. Remember that's the Fathers job. I don't mean to be an ass, but I've made mistakes in my life but have turned it around. HankIII is angry and he expresses it in his songs. He has been screwed over by the best. You need to read a book called "nothing like my sweet baby ". It was written by Hank Jr.s half sister on hank's side. Gives det
Ok I'll say maybe I was slightly too critical, I just don't like the angle he takes. We've all been screw over by family, I can relate to that. A brother that doesn't call on my birthday, an uncle who screwed my mother out of everything that was hers. My father was never around, but I have forgiven all of them. I try looking at the better in them, but I guess I failed to imagine the probable good in Hank the 3rd.
I do not care to fight over stupid stuff. I believe country music history speaks for itself. I do not, or have ever cared for Hank the third or Hank Jr. I believe that both were born into music families and have developed what little talent they have. The issue here is that Hank senior had a natural talent to write and sing. The other two will never even come close to Senior's level, plain and simple.
Yes, I have said it many times before there will never be another Hank Williams Sr. At my funeral I want Hank Sr to sing I saw the light, And the old country church. Frankie J Adams
my favorite thing about hank is he could just bang something out, simple 1, 4,5 chords, any arrangement, any recording value or production, any topic or lyric, and it was just done. period. instant classic. got the whole job done with emotional content and grit. this sounds like it was tracked on a cheap reel to reel in a living room and it couldn't be better. theres a very short list of folks that can do that.
Yes I agree, Hank was very disturbed. Thats where a lot of his songs came from that he wrote. I don't know about you, But I love his music. Keep in contact if you like. I could go on and on about Hank. I always said If I could sit down with three men in history and have dinner with it would be Jesus, Hank Sr, and Davy Crockett.
YOUR RIGHT HANK NOT ONLY WAS THE BEST BUT STILL THE BEST. THESE SO CALLED MODERN COUNTRY MUSIC SIGNERS TODAY WOULDN'T MAKE A PIMPLE ON THE BACK END OF HANK SR. Frankie.
Hank sang the simplicity of the secular heart that all men and women feel and experience no matter the nationality or culture. He just didn't realize like most people just how close he was to the grave.
this is a beautiful song. Hank would have made a good preacher but thinkfully these old songs still lives! a lot of churches these days are only interested in good lively fellowship and haaving big dinners and trips and seems to have forgotten Jesus and His message to us and Him dying that we might be saved. Bless Hank Williams and these songs!
@fanna1916 Actually, Hank considered a career as a preacher and was, at one time, invited to be pastor of the Avenue Tabernacle in Humoe, AL. He rarely missed a week going to church, and sometimes taught Sunday School in Nashville. It is well known that he gave millions of dollars to feed poor and needy people in the South.
Yes, he certainly was the committed Christian that everyone on this forum seems to claim that he was.
The song say it all........Hank knew who died for him and therefore, those who believe that Christ died for them.....will meet Hank again. God's word is very clear on that Christ is the only way!
i see my grand dad Junior Williams who died in 1953 too in Anniston Alabama in a car wreck....my grand dad and hank coulda past for brothers.....i hope i meet both a yall one day......DJ Williams
@ameritechdj His grandson could be as good as him, but, as of now, Hank III is not the most mature musical artist out there. And Im not referring to his heavy metal album, Im referring to his lyrics. Its too bad none of his grandpas spirituality got passed on to him.
@dontyoudaredestroy Shelton Hank III is as good of a man as his Granddaddy he is just lost in a dark world.. there is too many people keeping him held down in that world... Look up and Listen to his song "Calling your Name" its on his Lovesick, Broke, and Drifting Album.. He is already on his way out of the darkness.
@punxxx123 In answer to the comet about Hank being a pill poppin junkie. This really makes me mad for someone to make a statment , and dnon't even know what there talking about, Hank had a bad back and was in constent pain these pills were prescribed for him. However he did have an alcohol problem.Watch what you say about Hank! Frankie
@MegaTravis9 hANK WAS THE BEST,BUT STILL HE DIED A DRUNK JUNKIE.hIS PRESCRIBING DOCTOR WAS WAS NO DOCTOR,BUT A PAID DRUG DEALER.kNOW YOUR FACTS AND fuck off reinstate hank....666
@punxxx123 Hank had psychiatric problems for sure. He drank to medicate his chronic depression and fatalism, and took morphine to ease his very real back pain. It was a fatal combination. But it was a wholly personal failing. Hank never had a racist or hateful thought. He never harmed anyone. Should we condemn the art because we don't like the artist?
@punxxx123 You could have put it a better way than a drunk junkie. He was in a hell of a lot of pain. You would have been a junkie too and maby even worse than that if you were in his shoes.
@MegaTravis9 He didn't just have "a bad back", he had spina bifida, which can mean the spinal cord protruding through the vertebrae. Damn painful. It was amazing how much hank could do considering the agony he must have been in.
@punxxx123 I don't like the word pill poppin junkie. I agree about the so called doctor. No doubt about it. This so called pill poppin junkie as you call him took these pills to relieve his pain in his back. Not like this younger generation that popps pills and smokes these left handed cigaretts just to get HIGH. A BIG DIFFERENCE. I was a little boy when Hank sang on the radio, I came out of his generation, probable not like you.
@punxxx123 Some fans in their enthusiasm do indeed overstate their case. I don't think any one on earth was as aware of Hank's sinful nature as he himself was. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." I choose to believe that Hank's personal awareness of his great sin shows by the heartfelt hymns that, despite the protests of his producers, he sings with such spirit and sincerety. I feel that in his singing he is throwing himself at Jesus' feet. Just my opinion. God bless..
@Confederado1 I could not have put it better myself. I am pleased with youe statment about Hank Sr.We all know his personal life was all screwed up. I grew up in the 50s I love Hank's music , and all traditional country.God bless you for what you said about Hank.
@MegaTravis9 Hank used to love to sing a song by Leon Payne called The Lost Highway which contains the lyric "Now I'm lost, too late to pray" which I think falls into his existential feelings. Hank was a disturbed person for whom songs were an outlet for his actual feelings.
@Confederado1 Hank seems to have been torn. On one hand he sings these hymns with total conviction and understanding, a deep prayer for grace and forgiveness, but on the other he seems to have believed that he has been abandoned by man and god (alone and forsaken by man and by god or Life sometimes can be so cruel that a heart will pray for death). Hank was a difficult and complex human being, brilliant and petty at the same time.
@RossM3838 I'm not much on psychology, but he does seem to be one torn. He was fragile and probably uneasy with the adulation of millions. A broken relationship can be devastating, thus the words "alone and forsaken by fate (not God) and by man." To me that is his second saddest song. But dealing with the heartbreak he once more throws himself in the arms of God. Indeed, a very complex human being. I can't help but believe that I'll get to do some picking with him in heaven some day.
@Confederado1 Thank you for your post. Hank had cracked under the pressure of stardom and his own illnesses. But he seems to have fallen into existential despair. Once after singing "I saw the Light" he lowered his head and said over and over "There aint no light. There aint no light." In "These Men With Broken Dreams" he seems to have abandoned all hope of grace or redemption. Hank was a drug addict who could barely read yet he could write so deeply and poetically about his fate.
@punxxx123 You using that 4 letter word apparently you are from this younger generation and not very will educated A;lso have no respect .Educated people don't use that 4 letter word. I live in the Corpus Christi Texas area, in the aniville area my name is fFankie Adams everyone knows me If you are ever around look me up. I would love to meet you face to face, and for you to use that 4 letter to me. I will not respond to any more of your insults.
@punxxx123 I wish that someday I could meet you face to face you need help. When you tell someone to go fuck thenself thats fighten words. you could someday get your ass kicked.
@shesacountrygurl Shelton Hank III is nothing but a foul mouthed no talented nothing. He couldn't lace Sr's shoes and can't carry a tune in a bucket. III is a total embarassment to Bocephus. The only ones who listen to III are dope heads who don't care about how he sounds and they also like to hear four letter words over and over and over and over. III will never ever be a success. And that's the way it is.
@LT1HILLINGHOE : While III appeals to a diverse group of folks, he certainly CAN carry a tune in a bucket, and produce better traditional country music than JR. (who, IMO, is not a very inspirational or exciting musician). Yes, Shelton curses (so did his Grandad and his father!), and he plays the music that he was brought up on (punk, metal, etc...), but listen to "Alone and Dying", "Angel of Sin", and the entire Disc 2 of "Straight to Hell" , and you'll hear trad country at its finest.
@dhoosee I would rather have my teeth worked on with no anesthesia than listen to anything III sings again. I have already heard him howl like a dog being tortured. And Bocephus is the best artist ever in Country music....his sales, awards, fan base and chart success proves that. III is a truck stop parking lot act, nothing more, nothing less. And that's the way it is.
@stewarthass14 You write one of the stupidest comments ever contribed on YouTube and someone else is crazy?? Get a clue, homer. III has absolutely NOTHING to do with country music and is a no talent foul mouth nothing that appeals to dope heads who are in love with ignorant and uneducated four letter words. Look up punk rock, which is what III is and let me know how country that is, dummy.
@LT1HILLINGHOE 3 has alot to do with country, he's bringing back real country along with joey allcorn wayne hancock and alot of others... you need to check his country albums before you rant on about what you think you know about..
@LT1HILLINGHOE ..i think you have been hitting the crack pipe ..you must like all that pop country shit ...3 has more talent in his right nut then any of those pop county fucke...and now you wanna attack me ...fuck you you scumbbag
@stewarthass14 And if anyone is an authority on nuts and crack pipes, it is long haired hippies like you who reside in trailer parks and dine on mountain oysters. Get a life, extra chromosome boy because the one you got ain't working.
@dontyoudaredestroy i'm with you one this one as far as hank 3's lyrics. not so much that they lack a spiritual nature, thats a whole nother deal, but hank sr. had that way of being a peoples poet. they share much of the same subject matter but there is a grace to the words that is missing. he (hank 3) can certainly connect though, and i do respect him and his choices. i just feel it takes that poets touch to really transend to greatness but not leave the common folks behind
All them Wall Street types need to hear this before it's too late for them.

There is nothing more disgusting that to hear how great some one was after he is gone when everyone in contact with them knows they were mean or evil.
Hank left a mark as a good man and a great singer with a great voice.

kjohns2001 6 months ago
I do not care to fight over stupid stuff. I believe country music history speaks for itself. I do not, or have ever cared for Hank the third or Hank Jr. I believe that both were born into music families and have developed what little talent they have. The issue here is that Hank senior had a natural talent to write and sing. The other two will never even come close to Senior's level, plain and simple.

my favorite thing about hank is he could just bang something out, simple 1, 4,5 chords, any arrangement, any recording value or production, any topic or lyric, and it was just done. period. instant classic. got the whole job done with emotional content and grit. this sounds like it was tracked on a cheap reel to reel in a living room and it couldn't be better. theres a very short list of folks that can do that.

I just went to the Ryman tour , it is very emotional! Today's " country " is a shame!!!

Bless Hank Williams and these songs!
fanna1916 1 year ago
@fanna1916 Actually, Hank considered a career as a preacher and was, at one time, invited to be pastor of the Avenue Tabernacle in Humoe, AL. He rarely missed a week going to church, and sometimes taught Sunday School in Nashville. It is well known that he gave millions of dollars to feed poor and needy people in the South.
Yes, he certainly was the committed Christian that everyone on this forum seems to claim that he was.

@ameritechdj His grandson could be as good as him, but, as of now, Hank III is not the most mature musical artist out there. And Im not referring to his heavy metal album, Im referring to his lyrics. Its too bad none of his grandpas spirituality got passed on to him.
dontyoudaredestroy 1 year ago
@dontyoudaredestroy Shelton Hank III is as good of a man as his Granddaddy he is just lost in a dark world.. there is too many people keeping him held down in that world... Look up and Listen to his song "Calling your Name" its on his Lovesick, Broke, and Drifting Album.. He is already on his way out of the darkness.
shesacountrygurl 1 year ago
@shesacountrygurl Just because he's not Hank .sr. ,doesn't mean he is in darkness, get real.Hank sr. is King, but was still a pill poppin junkie.
punxxx123 1 year ago
@punxxx123 In answer to the comet about Hank being a pill poppin junkie. This really makes me mad for someone to make a statment , and dnon't even know what there talking about, Hank had a bad back and was in constent pain these pills were prescribed for him. However he did have an alcohol problem.Watch what you say about Hank! Frankie
MegaTravis9 1 year ago
@MegaTravis9 hANK WAS THE BEST,BUT STILL HE DIED A DRUNK JUNKIE.hIS PRESCRIBING DOCTOR WAS WAS NO DOCTOR,BUT A PAID DRUG DEALER.kNOW YOUR FACTS AND fuck off reinstate hank....666
punxxx123 1 year ago
@punxxx123 Hank had psychiatric problems for sure. He drank to medicate his chronic depression and fatalism, and took morphine to ease his very real back pain. It was a fatal combination. But it was a wholly personal failing. Hank never had a racist or hateful thought. He never harmed anyone. Should we condemn the art because we don't like the artist?
RossM3838 11 months ago
@punxxx123 You could have put it a better way than a drunk junkie. He was in a hell of a lot of pain. You would have been a junkie too and maby even worse than that if you were in his shoes.
MegaTravis9 7 months ago
@MegaTravis9 He didn't just have "a bad back", he had spina bifida, which can mean the spinal cord protruding through the vertebrae. Damn painful. It was amazing how much hank could do considering the agony he must have been in.
moominpic 7 months ago
@punxxx123 I don't like the word pill poppin junkie. I agree about the so called doctor. No doubt about it. This so called pill poppin junkie as you call him took these pills to relieve his pain in his back. Not like this younger generation that popps pills and smokes these left handed cigaretts just to get HIGH. A BIG DIFFERENCE. I was a little boy when Hank sang on the radio, I came out of his generation, probable not like you.
MegaTravis9 1 year ago
@MegaTravis9 Hank was no angel like you make him out to be go fuck yourself
punxxx123 1 year ago
@punxxx123 Some fans in their enthusiasm do indeed overstate their case. I don't think any one on earth was as aware of Hank's sinful nature as he himself was. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." I choose to believe that Hank's personal awareness of his great sin shows by the heartfelt hymns that, despite the protests of his producers, he sings with such spirit and sincerety. I feel that in his singing he is throwing himself at Jesus' feet. Just my opinion. God bless..
Confederado1 1 year ago
@Confederado1 I could not have put it better myself. I am pleased with youe statment about Hank Sr.We all know his personal life was all screwed up. I grew up in the 50s I love Hank's music , and all traditional country.God bless you for what you said about Hank.
MegaTravis9 1 year ago
@MegaTravis9 Hank used to love to sing a song by Leon Payne called The Lost Highway which contains the lyric "Now I'm lost, too late to pray" which I think falls into his existential feelings. Hank was a disturbed person for whom songs were an outlet for his actual feelings.
RossM3838 11 months ago
@Confederado1 Hank seems to have been torn. On one hand he sings these hymns with total conviction and understanding, a deep prayer for grace and forgiveness, but on the other he seems to have believed that he has been abandoned by man and god (alone and forsaken by man and by god or Life sometimes can be so cruel that a heart will pray for death). Hank was a difficult and complex human being, brilliant and petty at the same time.
RossM3838 11 months ago
@RossM3838 I'm not much on psychology, but he does seem to be one torn. He was fragile and probably uneasy with the adulation of millions. A broken relationship can be devastating, thus the words "alone and forsaken by fate (not God) and by man." To me that is his second saddest song. But dealing with the heartbreak he once more throws himself in the arms of God. Indeed, a very complex human being. I can't help but believe that I'll get to do some picking with him in heaven some day.
Confederado1 11 months ago
@Confederado1 Thank you for your post. Hank had cracked under the pressure of stardom and his own illnesses. But he seems to have fallen into existential despair. Once after singing "I saw the Light" he lowered his head and said over and over "There aint no light. There aint no light." In "These Men With Broken Dreams" he seems to have abandoned all hope of grace or redemption. Hank was a drug addict who could barely read yet he could write so deeply and poetically about his fate.
RossM3838 11 months ago
@RossM3838 once again i got the title wrong its These Men With Broken Hearts.
RossM3838 11 months ago

Hank the111 or Hank JR could never come close to Hank Sr. REMBER THERE WILL NEVER ,NEVER BE ANOTHER HANK SR!
MegaTravis9 1 year ago
@shesacountrygurl Shelton Hank III is nothing but a foul mouthed no talented nothing. He couldn't lace Sr's shoes and can't carry a tune in a bucket. III is a total embarassment to Bocephus. The only ones who listen to III are dope heads who don't care about how he sounds and they also like to hear four letter words over and over and over and over. III will never ever be a success. And that's the way it is.
LT1HILLINGHOE 7 months ago
@LT1HILLINGHOE : While III appeals to a diverse group of folks, he certainly CAN carry a tune in a bucket, and produce better traditional country music than JR. (who, IMO, is not a very inspirational or exciting musician). Yes, Shelton curses (so did his Grandad and his father!), and he plays the music that he was brought up on (punk, metal, etc...), but listen to "Alone and Dying", "Angel of Sin", and the entire Disc 2 of "Straight to Hell" , and you'll hear trad country at its finest.
dhoosee 7 months ago
@dhoosee I would rather have my teeth worked on with no anesthesia than listen to anything III sings again. I have already heard him howl like a dog being tortured. And Bocephus is the best artist ever in Country music....his sales, awards, fan base and chart success proves that. III is a truck stop parking lot act, nothing more, nothing less. And that's the way it is.
LT1HILLINGHOE 7 months ago

stewarthass14 7 months ago
@stewarthass14 You write one of the stupidest comments ever contribed on YouTube and someone else is crazy?? Get a clue, homer. Look up punk rock, which is what III is and let me know how country that is, dummy.
