  • nice butt

  • THANK YOU!! There are lots of videos showing dogs DOING perch work, but yours is the first one I have seen showing how to TEACH perch work! Very clear. Of course as soon as you started, I could see the way to do it, why didn't I get it before? I have always been a +motivational trainer, but have just switched over to clicker. Magic!! I have Weimaraners, an Irish Water Spaniel, Min Pin and Dachshund, so from 40kg (100lb), to about 2 lb. Have subscribed, and look forward to going through them all.

  • Muy bonito Emily !!

  • the promblem with this video is that some people including me has dog that are giants compare to those dogs, if dogs were smaller it would probaly be harder to train. no hating on ur vidoes or anything because that one with loose leash walk realy worked!!!!! but i dont think a 100pound dog wants to lift his backside that much, but keep making dog training videos!!!!! Thanks!

  • @rosebredthoroughbred: where can u buy a clicker? How much did urs cost and what can u use to replace that sound if u can't find a clicker? Are there different volumes too?

  • @KimikoTakaki

I actually just make a clicking sound in my mouth. Much easier than carrying a clicker around.

  • very helpful, thank you ! my question is, do you teach this going clockwise or anti-clockwise? I will be using this with my rottie for rally-o.Also do you have any videos on teaching your dog a left turn? thanks !

  • I can't wait to try this with my dog! I love clicker training! Thanks for such a cool training video!

  • hi, I've been trying this but one of my puppy doesn't seem to want to trurn, they will turn their head but will back away instead of turning. and how to teach my other puppy to do from the front to heel position, she always moves away everytime i try to go close (she is very shy). Any suggestion?

    thanks

  • Oh thank you this is JUST what we needed Heddy has NO IDEA what she is supposed to be doing with the back end . BUT after today SHE WILL. Off to practice.........

  • Hi emily! Wonderful video! But...my dog can move really well but she can't understand when to stop. At 8.15 you turn with Splash in front of you, but when you stop she stops in front of you! My dog doesn't! How can I teach her to stop? Thanks!

  • I wanted to thank you for this video (and all of your others). You've really opened up my eyes to what training can achieve. I used this video to teach my dog how to pivot, and since they she's picked up loads of new behaviours as a result of her increased hind-end awareness. We've begun competing in Rally, too.

I've got a few of my dog's videos on my page, and I invite you to check them out. I (think) I attached a video response.

Thanks again. Keep up the great work!

  • man how do you do this without getting dizzy?!

  • I have a question, did you or should I teach 'heel' before this? Or will this help train heel as well?

  • Your videos are the best!

  • Oh no! I'd ~love~ to see Splash skateboarding but the video is blocked in my country (England) for copyright reasons due to of Vevo (?) content. I'm even blocked from commenting (which is why I've done it here).

  • Recently my dog Becky started doing therapy dog work at a local nursing home. She has nice obedience, but I never taught her dog tricks. I came upon your site and have taught her some of the tricks from your videos. The people at the nursing home LOVE them. Thank you. They loved to pet her and now she can perform some tricks for them too.

    Sincerely,

    Linda & Becky

  • great videos!

  • again - so awesome!!! Thank you so much!

  • nice...thanks

  • Lawl, so dependent on food bribes.

  • It's not "dependent" on food bribes. Obviously you know nothing of training. A good trainer weans the dog off of treats. For demonstration purposes, she is using the treats the whole time.

  • A good trainer can train a dog with love and respect, not with food.

  • @KatLuff If the dog is praise motivated. Some dogs need food (and/or toys) to motivate them. You work with the dog and their needs. If they thrive off of "love and respect," use that. If they listen better with treats, use that.

  • Awesome video, yet again! I'm interested in what verbal commands you use for this pivoting. Does it change depending on the direction of pivot? Thanks again for sharing your talents and that of your pups.

  • Beautiful work!!!

  • THANK YOU!!

  • You're the most patient girl I have ever seen!!! Kudos to your tutorials - Thanks!

  • cool video. Could you add some more please???

  • Much Thanx for posting these vids!

  • does splash always walk that close to you? can you turn off that heel?

  • What verbal command do you give them so they know as you turn they are to follow you in a straight line in a circle?

Likewise what command do you give them so they know to change and follow you in a circle in a tight heel?

And what treats do you use?

    Thanks for posting!

  • I tried to teach this from the Mary Ray Dog Tricks book and really struggled to follow what I should do in the book.

My Splash is usually really quick, but couldn't get this, going to try this way now, thanks, you explain things so well.

  • Also, I wondered whether a comment mentioning to 'be aware of a dogs possible discomfort' may have been a good idea as I know some dogs with bad backs and joints find certain maneuvers particulary troublesome.

  • Thank you for sharing. I was stuck. My pup loves the heel between game and is a master at "touch" so this was a super easy transition. Thanks a ton.

  • thank you so much for this video. i had begun training this, but it got on hold as i didn't have a clear idea where i was going with it. now i can start again! yay!

  • what an amazing trainer. Thank you so much for allowing us to learn from you. Everyone needs to write so you can get your own tv show.

  • ya she definitely deserves it

  • can u do a video on how to teatch a handstand?

  • i'm going to give it a try...wish me luck!

  • This is just awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing. We are just starting to learn this with our local trainer. Your video lets us see where we are headed! Wow!

  • Hello, I just want to congratulate you on your video, very complete. I am a dog trainer, I train my dogs with positive reinforcement, and are getting very interested in the clicker way of training, I have been taking courses on it, but I was impressed to see all you have acomplished with the clicker training, can I ask how long did it take you to train the dog to pivot like he is at the end. Keep the videos comming :) good stuff on clicker training. Thanks again.

  • man, this makes me wanna get a dog. I would love it to death!!! But I cant have one right now... how does one get a puppy if they live alone and have to work??? Doggy daycare? bring the dog to work? how long before you can leave them at home?

  • That was great. Never heard of the "clicker" method to train dogs ever. Just curious, what kind of treat do you offer them?

  • Keep up the great instructions!

  • Hey Emily, It's such a joy to watch you working with Kiko and Splash! What great happy pups. I wanted to ask you how you transitioned from centered to heel position pivoting. My pup REALLY likes to stay centered, and this seems like a great exercise to get her understanding the concept of heel position. She's clicker trained and good at targeting, but I'm having trouble shaping the heel position. She really wants to be in front! Thanks!

  • I also feel it's rather diffucult to just wait and shape the behaviour I'm looking for when it comes to things like this... (a dog will, sit, lay down and so on some time during the day, so that's easier to just capture). Since I'm a beginner, I guess. =´(

  • How do you remove the treats as help in the end and teach them to do it on cue or with hand signs or whatever? Just started with clicker and am a bit scared to use luring and such, since I don't want my puppy to look for that all the time and never ¤try by himself¤ to see what can make me click.

  • Yes, shaping you can do- Shape your dog to offer front feet on the book. Then just move around the book, most dogs will try to turn and face you and offer back leg movements. Its pretty easy to shape (I made this video for a person with a dog that had been punished for offering behaviors).

  • Theres no sin in luring- in fact, once your dog GETS the idea of luring you never have to actually hold a treat in your hand, just get the dog to follow your open or closed hand, or a finger. It just becomes a cue- "you are learning a new behavior pay attention to what you are doing!" A rule to follow with luring is- only lure with a real treat no more than 3 times! Then get that lure out of your hand!

  • I am speechless! I just wanna say that your video is complete. You showed us with two different typesof dogs how to use this amazing technique of positioning the dog next or in front of you. The music and the organization of the video are lovely! Bravo!

  • Thanks soo much! I really appreciate it!

  • this is awesome! i would love to see a video of you teaching a dog how to do this that hasn't done it before. i loved the video! thank you. ~~

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

It is definitely what we need to do right now.

  • love this. but my dog won't go backwards around me. in a circle. he does every other way any advice on how to get him to do this?

    thanks so much

  • where do you get clickers

  • Great video! 5 Stars!!

I have been having problems with my BC and GSD on heeling, so this was exactly what I was needing. Both understand the command, but only if they are already at my side, the concept of moving from another location or going backward like you demonstrated had me stumped.

Thank you so much! I'm saving this as a favorite for future reference.

  • How do you make your dog jump over your leg if you put it out? its not in this video, i dont think its in any of your vids, but could you give me some ideas of how to do that, do ask me to make myself clearer coz that might not make sense!!

  • First put your foot against a wall and lure the dog over with a treat, then gradually raise your foot up the wall. if the dog goes under no click no treat. Then move away from the wall gradually! If your dog can already jump over a stick or through a hoop, then put the stick or hoop over your leg can help.

  • BTW, how did you train Splash to stick to your leg when you go (not turn) right or left? like in minute 8:42

  • Using targeting- the dog is targeting her face to my hand or left side Message me if you want more info :)

  • Amazing. Thanks

  • Emely, you and your dogs are wonderful! We just visited our puppy the second time (he is 6 weeks old) and cannot wait to start training him in two weeks when he is home!

  • Precioso ejercicio Emily :)

Yo también practico con libros y taburetes, es perfecto para mover la parte de atrás del perro en rotación.

    Un fuerte saludo

  • muy ilustrativo clap, clap ;=)

  • Excellent method for teaching back-end awareness. Emily - Chase has almost got his backwards weaves, we just need a bit more practice. Thank you for posting these videos and sharing your knowledge. Clicker trained dogs are happy dogs!! You help make happy dogs. :-)
