@spacemouse1 Carefully! The polarized sheet, which is required to see the image, is a replacement. They glue the factory installed ones on so I had to remove it with a razor.
I wonder how well this would work with led edge lighting and a diffuser. I was thinking of this idea, recenlty, and started googling around to see what others have or had come up with. I'm just not too good with the concepts behind the technology. There could be many great applications for this kind of thing. Have you tried making a custom polarizer to bring down the opacity? Good luck if you're still on this, and quick draw your patents if you get the breakthrough.

How do ya do this? can you point me to a website? im interested in make a projector a bright on 4000 lumens and this look preey cool as the light seems to pass straight through
That's exactly right. The Sheet I'm moving back and forth is actually original polarized film that was glued on the LCD. Carefully using a razor blade I slowly worked it off the glass. The light source as well is the original panel fluorescant light just propped up behind.
what no progress in 3+ years?

Hi. that is very interesting. How did you take the LCD apart without damaging it?

neat idea but the Koreans are already miles ahead with this technology. Look up OLEDs. (Organic light emmitting diodes)

Got that... so what is that sheet/film that he moves to take the place of the polarizer? and how the hell did he take that thing off anyway?
napadila 2 years ago
Make i ask what material the the layer of sheet that you are moving at the back of the screen? thanks.

well, based on my limited knowledge forgive me if i'm wrong. but i believe it is a polarizer.
i took the backlight out of my laptop screen once and accidentally tore a back layer off the lcd. so yea, but i'm not an expert.

he just took the backlight off the lcd and added a light source, then he peeled the polarizer off.
