What if i have a large photo (3000px X 2000) and the website downsizes to (720px X 476px) How would i go about making it smaller, while still having it in great quality?

great tutorial, however, what size should an image enter the opitmization stage. I mean, my files from a big image sensor are huge. Should i cut the "inch" size and "pixels per square inch" before begining to adjust them for the web?
