  • Holy fucking shit Batman ur good!!

  • If anyone is looking for the MIDI files of numans songs, I've uploaded a video with tons of the files in description. They inclued cars, M.E and more

  • Amazing. That moug lead is amazing

  • F'ing brill as a guitar player in trying to get into synths now. You make me want to do so even more.

  • WOW, dude! Just...WOW! :)

  • wow. very nice man. Really enjoyed it.

  • fun im playing and clapping in my head just need a pyramid.

  • You have it down. Nice job. I enjoy watching your fingers move just like Gary's.

  • True to form in every way - Cheers, Montreal

  • JP8000!! Love that synth

  • @cjlewis79 There's a lot of people who hate the JP-8000. It can actually produce some very convincing analog sounds (as long as you don't overdo the fancy effects).

I think anyone who hates it sucks at making patches. Great synth.

  • Now try some Jean michel Jarre

  • Encore!!!!!

  • All original 80's Synths. Time & effort into the programming of the sounds. Basic as it was then. When I was 14.

  • lol. this is so fucking good. it sounds like a live verison circa 1980. brilliant mate. have you used samples for the backing track or is it all your own work?

  • My son loves this ...OK, I love this ...

  • Excellent series. Thanks. Do you do this live? Seems there is a gap in the market for this era of pop music... punk covers and tamla etc, rock, etc but no electropop at least around where I live in MK... would love an evening out listening and jumping about to this!

  • excelent

  • You're quite good. Can you tell me where you got the drum beat from?

  • he's kidding on he's playing that

  • Great job! More power to you. I am an instant fan.

  • Dude, this is pretty damned good!

  • Fantastic!! Can you play Red Red Wine theme too please

  • Fantastic!! Brilliant version of an iconic tune! ;-)

  • where did you get the drum beat from?

  • you are the "techno soul" in my youtube partys, thanks man!!!

  • Thats fantastic man. I have a JP8000 myself and since I got it I feel no reason to get anymore synth gear. An amazing insturment.

  • FAB!!!!

  • can you play crocketts theme too

  • Cars....great track. One of the reasons I got into synth music in the 1st place. Gary Numan has never really been given the recognition he deserves. A true pioneer! Great version btw!

  • I just love watching all of your videos. I picked up a korg R3 and I don't even play anything....yet. Keep posting vids!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great cover, it instantly brings me me back to the 80's, time of real music, music that you could not only hear, but also feel .

    Bravo maestro,

  • What headphones are you using?

  • please take a look at my version and when it gets to the tambourine parts this one is better with the Roland JX-8P but my keyboards don't have them sort of sounds unfortunately

  • We ask for your attempt at Gary Numan - Are Friends Electric... in fact, we DEMAND it! High five

  • nice..

    perfect!

do you have some video playing the are friends eletric from gary N.?

    thanks from brazil.

  • you are so good

  • Wow u rock man! Great setup u got there

  • Original-Like!

my way of synthesizing 80's music.

    Awesomeness!

  • great stuff fella. love your synth collection. keep enjoying it, that's what it's all about.

  • Brilliant!

  • amazing

  • Nice one

  • big!!!

  • I LOVE YOU MAN!

  • Awesome....I love it!

  • dude, i just have to say that.... after a long week of hard work in the office, i just like it so much to sit down laid back with a nice littel cold bottle of becks and listen to and watch your vids. thanks a lot for the all good leisure times in front of my screen. :)

  • that 8000 has some nice fm ish bass coming out.

  • Awesome work!

  • love your videos!!

  • Muito bom, parabens :D

    BRASIL tambem ouve fear factory

  • You are extremely talented you remind me of my favorite keyboard player Vince Clarke.

  • I really enjoyed this, excellent.

  • Wow great stuff dude, love it, Cars was the first record i ever bought :)

  • Really good i thought it was Numan.

  • I just picked up a jx 8p and am recording into Pro Tools as well. I had a quick question about recording, do you have the "level" switch on the back of the jx 8p set to low, medium, or high when you record? All my levels are set correctly but the jx 8p still sounds somewhat harsh whereas yours sounds nice and smooth

  • @Trinigoth It is a common fault on those JX. Move the switch several times from L to H (or apply some contact cleaner on it). Audio is directly routed trhough that switch. Any small particle of dust can break the sound.

Enjoy the JX, is a great machine.

    DX5

  • @DX5 Dude your amazing!

  • @Trinigoth I had the same problem. Definitely clean the switch & volume fader.I have to occasionally push that switch as far as I can towards H for it to work correctly.

    three things that will help.

1.) decrease the volume settings on DCO1 or to 2. If one is at full, turn the other one down to 50%

2.) Turn down the VCA. This usually solves 90% of my problems with the JX-8P

3.) Clean the brass strip under the keys if you're aftertouch isn't working or you have to punch the keys extremely hard.

  • You need a Polymoog to do this song right!

  • @MrCamelneck No you dont. check out what Matt Jessup does with a JP8000 or JV80. Nobody can touch him.

Go here and check his Numan covers as well as his own work.

  • @ThatBloke01

I checked out a couple of his videos and he does gets really close to the Vox Humana sound on Cars. However, I think I can get a little bit closer using my Oberheim OB-Xa. The Polymoog is such a unique instrument. (ie each preset has special built filters) that it is almost impossible to duplicate its sound exactly..

(Jessup's patch tips are good, but they aren't entirely correct. For example, I agree that Osc 1 is a sawtooth wave, but OSC 2 should be a thin pulse instead.)

  • Very close to the sound Numan used with this song. Nice cover.

  • Am I the only one that bought an MS2000? Everybody picks the Roland 8000. :(

  • @kodack10

I had an MS2000B then sold that, and bought a Juno 60 and an Alesis Micron SE, the Alesis is of course a VA synth, but it is amazing as far as it's capabilities.

  • long live the synthesizer!

  • Perfect!!

  • Niceee!!

  • This is excellent. I sent it to my keyboard player to check out!

  • go on son, bring back the 80s.

  • Excellent!!!

  • Hey could you play Mike Mareen's Love spy?

  • Even if small town boy is my favourite song of all times, this is the best of all your videos!

  • Gary would be proud!!!

  • AWESOME playing mate. I have a handful of keyboards, play a lot of G Nmn, Krftwrk & other stuff as well as my own bits & bobs. Cheers & well done again. Never mind the couple of boaring farts that are not impressed they can't do any better.

  • Really enjoyed watching and listening,

    Extremly well played

  • I agree the 80s are the best years. This takes me back to when I was a little girl. I love it!!! Keep up the good work DX5.

  • This guy is freaky good.

  • Great stuff! Could you have done both lines on the JP using the split keyboard?

  • Dude, your extremely awesome!

I'm thirteen and I love 80's music, If there was to go back in time I would go there and bust some moves In a Disco lol.

Man if all 103 of your video's are as good as this then I think you should consider being in a band! Thats if your not already In one : D

    Long live 80's music!!!

  • @DX5

i am amused with how patient you are with some :)

  • This sounds great, I could almost hear mister Gary Numan's voice sync'd to this.

  • When I listen to "Cars" it sounds to me that out of the last 2 A bass line notes, the last one is played an Octave lower. D-Db-G-A-A-(A octave lower). But that would be very tricky to play with one hand.

  • @Telekon5 You are right- just listened to the original and out of the last 3 A notes, the third one is indeed one octave lower.

  • I love you!:3

  • Nice cover! Love it!

  • Wow you are great congratulations, if only I could play like you. Keep up the great work.

    A Fan

    Chris

  • the JX sound is perfect. You nailed it. The JX is a highly under rated synth.

  • aw coooℓ.. :p

  • Love your stuff. Got myself an Axiom pro keyboard and a pile of soft synths. They don't sound anywhere near as good as the real thing. I just like making noise.

  • jx8p sounds really close to the record [polymoog] in this, nice one!

  • Having been around when the original was on the charts, I can say you did a great job on this one. Way back then, nobody had a computer in every room, didn't have recording software that did all the work, there was no such thing as sampling or sequencing, and musicians actually had to have vision. You captured the essence of the era very well.

  • amazing set of keyboards!

  • Sounds good to me!

  • excellent wish I had a keyboard like this

  • That's was great man!!I'm subscribing

  • Great... as usual !!! I like your playing skills!

  • ...It's like you have been sifting through my CD collection !!! If I see some John Foxx stuff, then I'll be quite nervous :-))

  • Doesn't have the same heaviness like the original, I think your DM videos are better. This was great though!

  • You can pick up a JP-8000 for around 300 quid on a good day. They are a bit complex but a fantastic bit of kit. Try "sound on sound" for a good deal.

  • Hey guys how much are the Roland JP8000 and Roland JX-8P?

  • my dad had 1n they are about £800 to

£1.000 not 2 sure tho go on ebay

  • whats a moog?

  • excellent

  • That was awesome!

  • sounds too cold i dont think its analog. doesnt sound heavy like the origanal.good playing though. get a moog dude!

  • sick dude!!

  • sounds really good there, your be a good backing track DJ maker

  • Great cover, well done!

  • really good, well done :D NUMANNNNN

    More please....

  • Awesome! This takes me back to junior high circa 1979.

  • excellent, i'm a big numan fan and also have a jp-8000. be great to see you do more of his stuff.

  • HI well played i always love cars

  • Nice!

  • bueno dx5,gracias

  • Amazing work - as usual! 5* :D

  • The peak of innovation and creativity - those days ain't never coming back... {{{sigh}}} Contemporary pop music is just lame.

    Anyway, absolutely great work!

  • awesome m8 just awesome, please play more numan, ie i die you die and we are glass

  • What sound are you using on the JP8000? I have one of those and love that board. It's my main go to board. I just sold my JX8P to pay my mortgage. Sucks. Oh well. I found a cheap JV-80 I have been messing with.

  • That was great, I was singin along with you, the jx8p sounds just like a polymoog ,at a fraction of the price! and more reliable, one thing, needed some reverb on the jx to make it sound more spacious, still great though!!!!

  • Fantastico, Puedes añadir, OBK,

Ice Machine, See you, Dress in Black, (la tocaron el otro dia en el concierto de BCN), Surfer WELL, y When the body speaks ,;)

Eres una maquina, me he quedado alucionado.........

    millones de gracias

  • Genial, 5*

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Excellent !

    ☆☆☆☆☆ from me...

  • top man. classic 80,s song.

  • That JX8P sounds fat. You sure it's not layered with anything else?

  • Sure it is not. Just tweaking a little, anyone can achieve that sound on a JX8P :-)

  • Super 5/5

  • "The Damned Don't Cry" - Visage!!!!!

  • Very nice work this song it's amazing!

  • Fantastic! Always thought I might try a rendition of Cars myself, but it'd be second rate in comparison.....

  • That was very impressive...Gary Numan would be very proud of you. I would love to hear some Tangerine Dream...if you know any.

  • pmslll lord!

must say the chap fucked up a bit at the end and tried to make it seem he meant it! lol

  • Cool!

I like that you are back to a camera angle position where everyone can see what you are playing!!!

    Nice cover.

  • thanks for the gary numan cars version its brill cheers play more by mr numan if poss

  • Sounds exact like the original! Awesome! You kick ass dx5!:))

  • This is amazing! I love the fluorescent display on the JX-8P, I wish modern keyboards would use them -too many times I find LCD screens to have too narrow a viewing angle.

  • nice job! :)

ever thought of doing a cover of one of the tracks from "the fury"? that entire album is amazing.

  • Hi I think dx5 you sound cool. Also your version of FadeTo Grey is one of my favorite versions on the net.

  • very cool. good job.

  • hey dx,i wouldn't really worry about someone who can not post their own stuff, and who only watches and no uploads,if caly can play lets hear him,if not let him go back to his dreams and beer..

    nuff said

  • niiice

    5*

  • excellent cover m8 well done :-)

  • brillent

  • when you post one that's better...THEN you can talk.

  • all YOU are is TALK. if YOU can't even film YOURSELF proving that you're as good as you SAY you are... you're nothing more than hot air. P.S. a "cover" doesn't have to be EXACTLY like the original, dumbass! Phaser, flanger, arpeggiator, whatever... when you cover a song, you use what you like! Fuck yourself, asshole! DX5 does a great job!!

  • like to see you better

  • I don't use to reply these kind of comments, anyway calyx:

1- You can comment anything, in a respectful way. All tech comments are welcome.

2- Everybody can upload here what they want and how they want, not what you want.

3- The snare I used in this track is an E-mu SP-12 one, previously sampled into an Emax.

and 4- Don't be critic for free. Record this same track and show it to us. Best way to appreciate your skills.

Thank you calyx.., or Steamy Vicks.

  • Don't pay attention to the lamers. I love your videos. All the songs you choose are the classic songs I love. And I like the fact that sometimes you hit the wrong key and not worry about it. I like it natural and unrehearsed rather than "perfect and mechanical".

  • Also, forgot to say, please keep them coming! PS. Have you thought about doing "Are friends electric" from Gary Numan as well? That song is so fat analog. I love it.

  • @DX5 , don't even let someone like calyx93 get a reaction out of you. Your rendition was fantastic, and this is coming from a SEASONED synth player ( 25+ ) years.

I looked at calyx93's profile, no video uploads of his/her own.

So we must assume that calyx93 doesn't make music, otherwwise chances are calyx93 would showcase it here...calyx93 is a loser that critisizes people to make him/herself feel bigger.

  • @calyx93 Respectfully you were so envious, let the man play his stuff peacefully, he doesn't hurt anybody with 'em, does he ??

  • @calyx93 You are a prick and probably have NO skills whatsoever when it comes to playing keyboards, so go and learn how to play first then see if you can get anywhere near as good as DX5....

  • @calyx93 The most important thing about DX5 is that he is "out there" exposed to anonymous comments. Currently on youtube he is the best in this department (80's synth covers). Will there be others? Hopefully he will inspire others, may they be better or worse.

Looking forward to check out your version!

  • @calyx93 I am a huge Numan fan and I have also met him on two occasions, and I just want to say that if you think you can do better, show us what you got!!!! The boy did a brilliant job. Music is about enjoyment and you sound like a musical snob. (The types of people Numan can't stand) I am sick and tired of critics like you who like to put others down for their efforts. Numan would be proud!!!

  • Yeah well said he would be proud!!! this is what it's all about, if you don't like turn it off

let us enjoy this man playing

  • Hey ThatBloke,

If you want to hear the Polymoog sound nailed to perfection, check out the version of Cars made by Synthpro.

  • The '80's were the best!!

  • Perfect!!! You're the best!

  • Your covers are always an inspiration. Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work!

  • Fantastic cover DX5, the Voice Humana sound from the JX8P sounds exactly like the PolyMoog. Very good work.

  • IT DOES NOT sound remotely like the Vox Humana .

  • love it!

  • Great!
