  • @crookhunter They are -15 engines cause they whistle when they get to mil power. The nose is definitely not an E model F-4

  • thanks zeboczulu. its a bird its a plane its a phantom one thousand one ,one thousand two, one thousand three .if you still can count you are lucky.

  • i miss these big powerful beasts sod the eurofighter typhoon phantoms and ee lightings all the time

  • The camra guy had to feel the rumble of those powerful engines. The Phantom is one hellava fighter :)

  • happier times

  • Einfach nur schön! Die Phantom ist einfach nur SCHÖN!

  • @Darkrunner1975 So true! Best looking fighter plane EVER MADE!!!

  • Its good we sell you old parts when we have something real new and super cool. Americans build the best airplanes hands down.

  • @DobermansRock The RAF Phantoms were not old parts they had to be totally rebuilt to accept the RR Speys hence the massive air intakes and faster take off speeds compared to the modest but honest efforts of the US Phantoms. The Americans always produce a lot in numbers but they are confined to mediocrity of capability, training and a bad habit of shooting at their allies.

  • @allowayfreestate Also do remember to mention the fact that the aircraft's overall performance envelope was ''slightly'' SHRUNK with the Speys. But then again, insisting that your beliefs,on the specific issue, actually paid off while the rest of the world thinks otherwise is really something eh????

  • @Christos75GR You try operating a J-79 powered F-4 off of an Audacious class carrier with any useful fuel/weapons load... the crew would have been going for a swim had the RN not demamded a re-engining of the F-4.

  • @FallenPhoenix86 True, and i stand corrected on the issue of the ''small'' carrier, but one must admit that the overall performance was downgraded a bit.

  • @Christos75GR Granted, top line was reduced at high altitude an unfortunate and unforseen side effect of ensuring the jet had enough thrust to be able to launch. Much of the problem resulted in the aerodynamic alterations to the arf fuselage nesesitated to accomodate the Spey's, the engines themselves were not to blame. It's also worth notting that at low altitude (below around 15k if memory serves) the FG.1 & 2 would out accelerate and outrun any other F-4 model.

  • @FallenPhoenix86 I agree with you,this is what i was talking about.

  • @FallenPhoenix86 One question. The leading edge slat of the F4E model were not integrated in the RAF version no?

  • @Christos75GR I haven't forced any beliefs on anyone, this is just not that important. Where as UK F4s saw action and proved their ability specially being able to get off the ground quick (interception was the name of the game at the time specially in the UK chasing "Bears" By the way Christos are you "the rest of the world" or have you just read a bit out of an anoraks magazine and thought it was therefore divine truth?

  • @allowayfreestate I dont read anoraks magazine. The rest of the world is the rest of the world. No more ,no less.I am sure ,set aside the humour ,they had a good reason for transforming them.Depends on point of view.

  • @Christos75GR Depends on a point of view when it suits you you mean. You don't read the "Anoraks" magazine, you are wearing one while you read your comics you then try to use to educate the rest of us. Thank you for telling us you are just you and not the rest of the world calling us liars>

  • @allowayfreestate Apparently this debate wont lead anywhere.Depends on point of view means depends on point of view, yours, mine, others.I do not read comics, and im not trying to educate the rest of you, this is your saying.Either way i cannot convince about anything regarding the Speyd bird, you have already a solid opinion,so lets skip this and save the viewers some time ok?

  • @Christos75GR OK Christos the "debate" is over, just sounds more like a "dictate" when you post it that's all!. By the way I hear the Germans are looking for their money back, I hope you can still afford to fly your "birds" of what ever rubber band you have chosen to stick in em.

  • @allowayfreestate Reading about the Germans i couldnt resist answering your ironic comment. The Germans,if you ask me, have done so much here in the past that are not entitled to anything. But then again ,on the other side you have the collaborating goverments from back then till now,so it gets really complicated. But just as a man,my opinion is they can shove the euro up their ass. That would solve the jp4 problem for the birds.2 world warsare enough dont you think?

  • Respond to this video... Excuse my I have to go, my bloody American Bull Terrior has just swallowed a damned Doberman and is coughing up it's hair on the carpet !

  • @allowayfreestate We be trolliin ehe.

  • Speys sound better than j-79

  • Phantoms are some of the most beautiful fighters ever produced....

  • This is 1992, as I was there at the time. 74 Sqn converted to the FGR.2's in January of 1991. The ex-92 Sqn jet was being operated by 74 Sqn just prior to the retirement of the Phantom in the RAF in October of 1992.

  • my god even Blue Mike is there,, very rare footage ! , thanks for posting ! :)

  • Best what?

  • Stripy cat

  • Nice footage , Tigers were the best. Sad there a 12 ft high fence there now around the base.

  • aPPROX 1990ISH!
