This is truly amazing. Burroughs was always years ahead of the rest of us so I guess the kind of things he did would have no meaning to rest of us. Brian Jones was a flaming star who also liked young people; he believed it liberated their sexuality in a way society frowned upon - a repressive society. The Beats influenced the Sixties generation in a way that verged on veneration - its only natural that one of their leading lights should so influence an accolyte.
I get slagged off by my King Crimson loving brother for liking this. Just wish Satanic Majesty's was more dedicated to Morroccan music than the end result. There's some Arabic sounds on We Love You, and Gomper's Eastern sounding, but there's not enough to represent the Stones' experiences for my liking.
people that come here expecting to hear something that fits withen their limitations will never hear anything-when ur surrounded by 100s playing this way its ritualistic visceral trance inducing
Brian had an impressive gene pool both intellectually and musically. If HE heard something in this, I'll respect that.
As for this amateur guitarist, I can't seem to find any melody. The only 60s song that seems to draw from this droning music is The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows", which I really like. YMMV. Brian heard the Blues somewhere in this?
Its too bad the entire album isnt posted here. I used to have this album when it first came out and I can tell you,a great buzz and this album were a mindblower.
I get the impression Burroughs could very well have been a successful painter if this call had been strongest within him. His art touches a deeper chord sometimes than his words, as great as his words are... but then: the most powerful part of the writer's arsenal is the unspoken - Burroughs had the gift to communicate even that
Well done, very good. Great stuff, the Moroccan fife&drums-kind-of-band & Burroughs' Homunculus together! Aren't they sad, these people on YouTube who have nothing to offer or interesting to say & spend their time spewing their hate & frustration on musicians like Brian Jones or writers like Burroughs (or anyone else for that matter) simply because they have no life & are complete non-entities? Homunculi indeed! Thanks for posting this.
neither man was a role model. they were both drug addicts, and many things have been said about jones, too (e.g. that he was violent and beat up his girlfriends).
but WSB never had a reputation for being violent. true, he loved boys (adult boys as far as i know), and he may have had sex with consenting young men, but raping a boy, i strongly doubt he did that. i suspect those who said so (i'm shocked to hear brian is among them) are either uninformed or are trying to smear WSB's memory.
@afterbabel You are thinking of Allen Ginsburg who endorsed NAMBLA (Man Boy Love Association). He was a creep. And so is anyone who endorses having sex with children!
burroughs can go fuck himself hes a junkie queer but mr. jones is a legend RIP i would have loved to hear his jajouka album had he lived long enough to overdub bottleneck guitar and bass
first off im not homophobic and you obviously know very little about burroughs real life outside of his literature yes, he was a good writer and philosopher but he was fucked in real life man he would go up to jajouka (before he met brian) and fuckin rape the little boys in the tribe he was just a really dirty old greasy bastard pedophile brian jones even denounced him
Do you have some evidence about what you are saying? We know that Burroughs was no angel, but I would like to know something more about this embarassing thing.
Yes Emalaith, there is some evidence. I was surprised and disgusted too, but I read the declarations of some people from Joujouka about both Burroughs and Gysin abusing of some Moroccan boys. In absence of a trial, we cannot be completely sure of this statements.
Burroughs never "raped" little boys. He would have been killed on the spot. There's no evidence that William ever did anything so vile. True, Burroughs was an ephebephiliac--meaning he preferred the sexual company of young men, but raping children--never.

sex with young boys for money is still rape there shitler so why are you even defending him are you an "ephebephiliac" aswell? where i come from we just call them pedophiles. but fuck william burroughs, forget him, this is a brian jones thread dedicated to one of the greatest musicians of all time we dont give a shit about dirty old ephebephiliacs please from now on all comments be related to brian jones and/or his music
Um, I didn't bring the subject of Burroughs up. And BTW asshole, at least I SAW the Stones with Brian Jones in concert in Cleveland, OH probably before you were born. So, my advice is STFU.

chill out there grandpa you're damn right it was before i was born i cant believe everyone is givin me the thumbs down here i feel like im on 'crazy pills' are you all completely mad brian jones was briefly interested "wsb" because he was a drug addict and that's it
Grandpa, here. I don't give a rat's ass what WB did in Morocco. Over there, they think it's OK to make it with 16 year-old men until they get married. But, who cares? Anyway, Brian thought in Jajouka he found the square root of the blues and wanted the Stones to play over this. They rejected him outright so he decided he would play bottleneck and mellotron over this. It would have been amazing, I think.
You know you are a true Brian Jones fan if you can say honestly that "Jajouka" is one of your favorite albums. Brian was looking for the square root of the blues and found it in Jajouka. This was his labour of love. It is the most influential album EVER in the genre of "world music". Once again, Brian Jones was light-years ahead of everyone else. Thanks for this video (which is GREAT, just PERFECT)!!
You can't imagine how much we are happy for your feedback, my friend!
Eleonora Cavallini provided the music and Brian's photos. Elisabetta Zoni found out Burrough's paintings, and Bibi Bozzato (who is a professional filmmaker) made the video. Thank you again!
i absolutly agree nowaydays every body is looking how to heaal themselves through mind power. and meditation and all those sophisticated eastern philosophies. brian was a visionary.
The mainstream will always try to shit on the reputation of great thinkers like Burroughs.

Just listen, lie down, and fall slowly asleep. To me, that's what the music asks, it's just a peaceful sound.

I don't care what Burroughs did: I'll take his work over B. Jones and especially Crosby Stills and fucking Nash.
