When I was a child... the house i grew up in had a cistern for water supply.
From time to time... chunks of things would spatter into the tub and sometimes mud would goop in... we dealt with it as we needed, but if it was too too yucky... we would wait till the water flowed clear enough. Well. we did 'in general' of course, but that was as it was back on the old country property of my childhood.
