is he still dating/married to this chic? i saw him a few years ago in Boston driving a green Jeep. Next to him was this blonde lady...couldn't see her as i was turning and got a good look at Ric
Haven't thought of this song in many years, and not sure what made me think of it tonight, but thanks for posting so I could hear it and have a nice flashback to the greatest decade in music---the 80's!
The 1980's were a great time to be rich and famous. Not as much compotition and no internet. Now the world is flooded with bands. Which is great I guess. Hidden talent from their living room can be discovered on YouTube and other websites. But man, 25 years ago if you were famous you were with a group of a few and everyone praised you. Granted a ton of bands came out of the 80s but today its a sea of performers. It's no longer lonely at the top and it's getting crowded.
Of course, the flipside to the internet music explosion (and the good side I believe) is that the s*** no longer floats to the top alone. We are no longer forced to be content with the schlock that the Clear Channel empire feeds us.
The funny thing about this song is that it's really the Cars and somehow Ric got all the credit and why would anyone call Ric a freak? Cuz he was tall? As far as I know that's a good asset to get yourself a nice model wife.LOL!
actually according to this side of paradise the album which true to you came off of, it was just Benn Orr, and Greg Hawkes, Greg was on bass and synth, while Benn did backing vocals.
Actually, wrong. This song along with "Emotion in Motion" had all five Cars members. The difference was like you said, Benjamin Orr just gave his vocals to recreate the sound while Greg Hawkes, not a bad bass player, recreated Ben's playing style intentiionally (from an interview). So this song is very much a true Cars song as David Robinson and Elliot Easton also tagged along.
Ric was really not that good looking and I'm sure in real life he really wasn't that lucky with the girls. Or perhaps his Band Status got him a lot of action. But one thing for sure is that he was a romantic and an excellent lead singer.
He has 6 sons all by beautiful women, and has been married to (Supermodel) Paulina Porizkova for about 20 years. Why? Because women judge men on how they act, not how they look. Great to know, especially when you look like Him. LOL
Here's something funny - Back in the 80's almost nobody ever commented on his looks. Now people (anonymous, of course) call Him a "freak" ? Interesting the things we consider valuable, isn't it ?
Well, I never would call him a freak and like I said he was a a real romantic and an excellend singer. I really didn't mean to sound like I was saying anything bad about him.
PS back in the 80's there was no internet, cell phones, PDAs, texting, and phone communication was expensive so of course we are hearing a ton of stuff today that we wouldn't share when we were younger. I do recall girls in my highschool said that he was not attractive but they still liked him because he had a cool personality.
The coat is in box in the basement at my parents place..unfortunately 800 miles away...I will see if they can find it, or the next time I am there I will dig it out and get the name of the company who made it...I bought it at this place that had the funkiest of clothes who unfortunately went under shortly after I bought it...figures with the prices and all....
how damn true !! While they were "fucking around" with all their solo stuff, the fans were slowly dropping. SOME bands can get away with this...the fans will wait. Obviuosly Cars fans didn't, or wouldn't, wait. "Door to Door" was an okay album, but the fans were onto something else by 1987, hence the 1/2 full (and eventually cancelled) Door-to-door tour !!
LOL at the coat comment...the coat Ric wears in the vid for Tonight She Comes..well, I had to have it, so I searched for where it came from (no internet back then so it was a bitch to find) and I bought the sucker....for $800.00!!!!!!! I spent my whole savings on that coat...still have it too, but that was a lot of hay for a 17 year old back then! Love this song, and this album...Ric Rocks!
Just imagine how great of a Cars album we would have had if Orr brought songs like Skyline and Stay The Night from his solo album, and Ocasek brought songs like Emotion In Motion and True To You from his solo album combined with great songs from Door to Door like You Are The Girl, Coming Up You, Wound Up On You, and Strap Me In. That would have been an amazing Cars album.

This is my favourite solo song from The Legendary singer & producer Ric Ocasek. Love the clapping in this & adds to the beat of gr8 music & songs.

disagree.....a freak like him had more women that he could count.....a man with his originality is a magnet for the women....take it to the bank!!

I'm no connoiseur, but MANY women love what we might call offbeat.....as long as there is some humor to it.....and sincerity....the latter is HUGE!!!

Gregmckee, Who made the coat from "Tonight She Comes"? It's not the standard fare Yohji or Gaultier that Ric was known to wear. Just curious...
