Actually, it isn't really silly. He was going for the ball, as he thought Suarez would pass.

Suarez made a useless fake shot anyway. He acted like he would hit the ball, but didn't pull back the ball as he should. If Kelly was an amateur footballer, he would obviously go where the ball is, and poke it away from the current position. But he anticipated where the ball would go, that's why he slipped.
