I have never ever had an algae bloom like that. I get a little algae here and there, and every few weeks I scrape it off my decorations and off the sides, and everything looks perfect again. Maybe too much nitrogen in the water causes the bloom? UV filters are expensive, so unless I had bad algae, I don't see the purpose of one...
Ok just to let you know...I have a 220gal and I fill it up with well water. Within 30mins it is so dense with green you cant see anything. I simply run some penguin (Wheel) or Eheim filters for a few days and it disappears to a crystal clear status. UV sterilizers are a waste of money. Unless someone can give me a good reason to use them besides to kill the algae.
1000L is 265 gallon, 2200lbs. UV light won't filter algae, it kills it. The regular filters have to remove it from the water, the UV light stops it from growing.
I just have a question about the UV light affecting the fish...... I have no idea how the UV light for aquarium is designed...but since it is killing bacteria......as human will be affected when exploded under UV light too long...will the fishes be affected in the same way?? 4 days of UV light....... will the fishes baby be dis-formed like what can happen to human?
Goldfish, regular and the fancy variety, produce an extremely high amount of waste. Even with the your two canister filters the tank was under filtered from the get go. A couple of sponge filters would have been way better for the cost at helping out your tank because of the amount of biological filtration they add. That coupled with weekly if not bi-weekly water changes of +-30% and you'd be set.
Also, Goldfish dig plant and NEED fiber in their diet. Get some substrate and plant it.
okeeey algae are killed, but bacteria will be killed as well so will there still be transformation from ammonia to nitrate (which is necessary)... are will there still be bacteria in the filter to do the job ?
:) tern the lights of sometimes please fish like to rest and your algae will clear up a lot faster good video mate show that UV works on algae and every thing ells it comes onto contact with
nice thats the kidn of water my turtles had alot 2 in a 20 gallon i used everythign and then i gfound it a new conditioner from all livign things took 3 days now water is slightly yellow but it was pure green before im happy with it
use chemicals its more effective in stopping bacterias reproduction that causes cloudy water, larger living organisms like fish could tolerate the toxins
I'm suprised no one's like "this is so cruel, your tank is too small!" like ive seen on so many other goldfish aquarium videos. people act like 1 small goldfish requires an ocean.
@topstunts There is really no need to leave it on all the time as it the light bulb doesn't last long, eventually it will burn out. or atleast thats what happened to mine.
I think the water is too deep? I have a goldfish fishpond and the water is not even half of that. liek 1/4 of that water of urs lol, I don't even use filter. but I have filters at home.
@wallaguest1 it kills some bacteria on contact but not all of it. The same water has to pass through it several times to get rid of all the bacteria. You also have to keep in mind that with each gallon is cleaned it dilutes the water of bacteria so the uv sterilizer takes in water with less bacteria every time. So ultimately it has to take in more and more water to kill the same amount of bacteria in the same amount of time.
You have a nice tank there, and good job on getting your algae problem under control. Now you really need some substrate in the bottom and some things in there for the fish to hide and play in.
over feeding and often in goldfish over pooping are two reasons green water occurs...the uv light also kills bacteria that break down fecal material so always change the water along with using uv lights
Your tank is clearly too small for those fish... lol Man this is what I like to see big tank with happy fish that can move pretty much as free as they want!!
@stunnaonflyrims I read this first line of ure comment and almost shit on the floor with shock.. then realised... sarcasm lol .. its a stunning tank... I Plan to build something that size when i get bigger place.
i just got the 24w green killing machine internal uv sterilizer with a power head today and although my water is not green im hoping it will get rid of all the white little bits of lose algae in my tank i have a 100gallon
@sidewindersnake1210, my tank did start off with a hint of milkiness or white cloudyness! Together with the biological filter, i believe your problem will soon go away and you'll get a crystal clear tank!
What fish are in your tank?
At the moment, i feed my fish in the evening and by the next morning i am able to siphon off debris from the fish. It's like a small water change each day. Will see how it goes!
still looks green at the end.... but less

@everest0411 the UV bulb is contained. neither the fish nor humans can see it. only the water passing through is exposed.

Well, well, well...You're just a big fat liar now; aren't ya?
Not only do you lack understanding of unit conversion, you also know very little about aquaculture and aquatic quality of life.
Your aquaria doesn't need sterilization, you do.
I'm rather sick of the fascination with these poopbags that others call goldfish.

@dexOn22 No, i leave it on all of the time. It consumes 24Watts so it's like leaving a small lightbulb on.
