@Batojiri1 No clutch pedal = no fun. And less of the dipshit. You don't know me or my mental capabilities therefore you're not in a position to comment like that.
was told by somebody with a degree in performance engineering that it is true when a diesel makes little to no smoke is when its being most efficient BUT its on the ragged edge if its modified so a little smoke keeps it in the safe range, diesel performance vs gas performance is like apples to pool balls..
@abdi862 Every month or so, to get rid of the black smoke, take the vehicle off overdrive, and floor it from 0 to 55, or 60, a few times until you no longer see the black smoke in your rear view. Bit of a hassle, but completely worth it in the scheme of things.
@xmodrock How is this not true. You get black smoke from too much fuel not being burnt. If you put in bigger injectors and cant supply enough air to burn that extra fuel it is wasted(hence the black smoke)I am NOT a diesel expert but I do own a Cummins and I know enough to know that the more black smoke you got your just wasting money If you watch a Truck pulling or Tractor pulling contest with diesels when they start spooling up its black as a mo fo but once the turbo is spinning its burning fuel
@woodpecka39 - Somewhat true... If watching a tractor pull- notice normally when they spool up- It's a thick white smoke- with the occasional fireball or two. (also depending on modified injection systems) Once they're spooled- and the clutch is released- the RPM from the engine is slightly lagged due to the load again the power plant, causing a slight residual of unburnt fuel. Hence- the dark black smoke. Watching tractor pulls- take notice to the burn-off when they finally stop- it'll rpm high
@dash456789 I do agree that woodpecka is correct. Think to when you see a powerstroke stomp it from a dead stop, it smokes like crazy then when the turbo spools up it doesn't smoke anymore hence the added air from the boost is burning the fuel. I tuned my truck and it black smokes now but it gets better fuel mileage......hmmm....wasted fuel though? I don't understand...haha
@adamslurch71 That's not what I've noticed in my 2007 Jetta. On occasion I can get the rear end out but for the most part it just understeers slightly. Idk about the 2011s though. They probably do since most of them have the same rear suspension as the 1999-2004s.
@PIchillin456 The difference is your talking about the American spec and I was talking about the European, sorry I forgot to say that. European Jettas are a light tighter in the suspension and they will over-steer when you push them hard.
@adamslurch71 No worries. It's a shame we didn't get the Euro spec suspension here in the states. I've never understood why car companies think that Americans wouldn't take a liking to the stiffer suspension. My personal feeling is that they should keep the European suspension and if you don't like that it's stiffer then look for cars that aren't of European heritage.
@adamslurch71 By the way the rear-end does go out a decent bit when I push my Jetta hard which makes it a lot of fun to drive but when it's not at it's limit it will under steer. But I gotta love that traction and stability control. It does an excellent job of keeping that over steer in check when you want it to. Me personally, I like to drive with it off when I want to have a little bit of fun.
@NW242124 - It's been quite a while since this video was shot (in the rain) last fall. I have more footage of the Banks-modified TDI from an event this spring that might provide a better sample of the exhaust note. Lemme dig through my tapes ...
This makes me excited, this time around i noticed something i hadnt seen. at 2:98-3:01 look in the rear view mirror. Theres my four rings!!! Aruba blue audi of some sort. Zat mean Banks got a pre-production TDI A3? or (be still my heart) TDI A4??????
Bosch had their Euro A4 TDI at Pocono that day, but unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to drive it. It was a black car (not the blue one in the rear view), as I recall.
How long till the DPF and the EGR systems explode? There is a reason why all the well known TDI tuners are taking their time with the CBEA. Unfortunately this looks like nothing more then a tuning box (yay lets dump more fuel and no boost) and fancy ScanGauge...
I'd reckon that Banks has a good bit of resources at their disposal. This is a Bosch car. If it wasn't raining cats and dogs that day, I would've done a full shoot.
im pretty sure Banks of all people has thought of that. His whole kick on smokeless power and whatnot. He is tuning the new trucks and cars without having any issues.
This has been so long in coming. Ive been emailing banks off and on for quite a while to do a TDI kit. These little cars have alot of potential. ive seen the older 1.9L engines put out over 300hp.
My question would be, do these mods also work on the new Audi A3 with the same engine coming out this november??? if audi pulls its head out of its behind, and releases a quattro version of the A3 TDI, we'd finally have a platform that can handle the torque of themodded diesel drivetrain.
In that older 1.9 upgrade, or any diesel mods have you known of any that help out the size of the power band and let these things rev a bit? I'm with you on this being long in coming and i think it would be awesome if it had more than just a 2k RPM power range...
google, tdiclub, all the info on the 1.9L TDI you could ever want, from maintanence, to biofuels, to fuel economy, to performance. These guys will have you covered.
Don't know if it's been on the dyno yet. They got the car together just this week. I'd reckon that they'll publish specs by the time that the SEMA show comes around.
I'm sure they dynoed it... its about the only way to get the exhaust temps within a reasonable range and not melt the turbo..... Just wondered if they shared this with you.
AAHH yes, I love the Jetta TDI. No matter what the car is awesome. Not only is it torquey and fast but it gets amazing mileage. I'm hoping at some point to get an older model one or possibly a rabbit TDI but regardless awesome vid. Thanks Dan!!
