It is not perfect but it is very likely the most humane hunting of any species I have seen and it is due to the Faroese respecting the whale. They were not forced into regulations by outsiders. They came up with these methods on their own traditions.

1, the whales are not about to be extinct. (fact: we kill around 0,1% of them each year, and the re-produce 1,8%)
2, we don't go looking for them. we hunt them when they pass through the islands.= they live a normal life instead of being brought up at a farm in cages and what not. (fact: many cows are purposely overfed to get fat ti'll they're legs break, thats cruel)
3, we try to kill them as quick as possible to spare them pain
4, its pretty much the circle of life, keeps the nature in place.

@tasteegold777 Yelling won't make what you say magically become true. Most likely you saw the Japanese killing of Dolphins at either Iki or Taiji. The Faroese method is very different and I have seen it to verify the sources I posted are true.
It is not perfect but it is very likely the most humane hunting of any species I have seen and it is due to the Faroese respecting the whale. They were not forced into regulations by outsiders. They came up with these methods on their own traditions.

On the other hand if Greenpeace and SSCS would leave Faroe Islanders alone the whole issue will die out in a few years anyway. The minister of Health in the Faroe Islands just came out with a warning about extremely high toxic mercury levels.
Faroese? (or whatever the proper name for them is) will be forced to completely change this tradition soon.

First of all they must beach the whales on approved gentle sloping beaches. Rocky beaches that might hurt the whales are illegal. Second of all they kill the whales in a special way that averages 30 seconds. This is another thing they take great pride in. In fact it is a right of transition from a boy to manhood.
