  • Holy shit, Han! I thought you died in Tokyo Drift!!!

  • Need better sound.... Sounds like you are inside an oil tanker

  • Why do I hear sentences of japanese when I read english subtitles sound like they are in reverse?

For example... normaly I'd say "What do you mean?" but when i hear it in japanese, they usually say the last word in that sentence first, and go backwards from there.

How can anyone learn japanese here?

  • @KidAnime20 Also, the word "Watashi". It means "Me" in japanese. Now, why is it that everytime I say sentences like "Save me!" It's like "Watashi taskida" or something like that!

And when you add one more word to a sentence, it changes the word completely. Like, when I only say "You", it's "Suru", and "Will" is Uiru" in Japanese. But when I combine them into a sentence, it becomes "Shimasen Ka". Shouldn't it be "Sura Uiru?

Man, i just don't get it.

  • @KidAnime20 "save me" would be "tasukete" and the "me" or "i" would be referred, so it can be committed. but if you were to say word-by-word, it would be "Watashi ni (or use "o") tasukete". "suru" is "do", not "you".

"you" in this case, would be "kimi"(casual or neutral) or "anta"(short of "anata", feminine?) or "anata"(male or female; polite) or "omae"(guys only, casual) etc.

in japanese there is no future tense, so "you will" is not directly translatable.

  • @KidAnime20 their sentence structure isnt the same thats why.

  • @GenerationDarkness So... the japanese language doen't have consistency then, thanks to not having future tense. Agh... alright, well... thanks for helping me understand.

  • @KidAnime20 well it is similar to English except that their verbs are at the end of the sentence.

also, e.g if you wanted to say "i ate an apple because i was hungry" ,which can be said as "because i was hungry, i ate an apple". you can say "onaka ga suita kara ringo wo tabemashita" or you can say "ringo wo tabeta no de onaka ga suita kara desu"

see how Kara, which means Because is similar to English but the difference being it mark it's sentence in the front as the reason instead of at back?

  • @KidAnime20 that's the kind of difference i'm talking about, sometimes not necessarily structure but also the system itself.

    taberu - eat

    wo - object marker particle

    ringo - apple

    kara - because

onkaga ga suita - stomach is empty - hungry

  • @GenerationDarkness So verbs are at the end of sentences only. This is something I didn't know until now. Thanks.

  • @KidAnime20 you can learn from the basics from my channel's Japanese lesson playlist (not my videos)

  • wakarimasu = understand.

    wakarimassen = dont understand.

wakarimasen deshita = did not understood.

    wakarimashita - i understood.

    shita is like past tense.

  • I've already learned this from all the anime I've watched...people say that watching anime w/ english subtitles doesn't help but I've learned alot from it...well I guess it's only me cuz I watch 7-8 hours of anime a day -.- it's addicting. so I've got the basics down ^-^ I just need help with the writing..

  • @lazerbeamcat It's not that anime subtitles don't help, it's that Japanese sentence construction is almost the reverse of English, so when the subtitles are displayed (as it's interpreted for an English audience) you will often find that the subtitles aren't correct to the Japanese language currently being spoken but will usually be spoken in the next line. I personally find that anime is a great way to familiarise yourself with the sounds of the language and pick out words.

  • Thx very helpfull !

  • Is it wa ka ri masen di shi ta i cudnt here the last bit

  • ありがとう!

  • 0:17

  • you look so clean!

  • Why do you say "ga" after nihongo?

    Please answer!

  • Ore wa nihingo ga wakarimasu janai =

    Idint understand jaanese?

    am i right or wrong?

  • Why use ga (が) after Nihongo ?

  • @kolesidisgiannis it is a particle that relates 日本語 to the rest of the sentence.

  • @kolesidisgiannis just like how after 'watashi' there is 'wa' . almost everything in a japanese sentence is followed by a particle such as; ga, wa, o, no, ni, e, de, ka. I was completely lost with these particles i suggest u read the lonely planet japanese phrase book if you're interested it helps alot and very useful.

  • @kang1996 Thanks for the help.

  • it's hard but trust me I am getting the hang of it

  • Moshi moshi I love Doraemon so much@.@

  • Mr. Tomita, how can I contact you? do you have any mail? Thanks

  • watashi wa nihon go ga sukoshi wakarimas..= i understand japanese a little

  • It's funny to see these anime people in here trying to learn Japanese. Takes hard work.

  • It does, I learned a lot of phrases by simply just watching it, I have a photographic memory, so I can mix the audio that I hear with the subtitles below and find a pattern. However I still fail miserably, it's not funny either, I won't pretend to know. But doesn't mean I can't be interested because I love their culture. :)

  • wakatta, 分かった means

"understood" , in the past the tense.

wakaru 分かる , is the infinitive form, "to understand"

hes giving you the masu ます form.

its the..understand form ahaha. idk what thats called in english :d its like the present state of being. so.

    私は日本語が分かります is I undersand Japanese.

    Great vid, thanks!

  • haha, no kiddin. Maybe he kicked the camera stand?

  • I am 11,and Im learning Japanese.

Thank you very much for explaining me this)

  • Oh, I'm 14 and I'm learning Japanese too!

  • わかったぁぁぁぁ

  • arigato sensei =)

  • you can also say "wakarimashiti", right?

    わかりました

  • wakari-mashita, is All right or I got it, its more a formal thing I guess.

  • It's past tense.

  • true, but still only heard that in cases of formal talk.

  • Well you'll notice the difference is it changes from Masu to Mashita, mashita is used for past tence where as masu is present. So wakarimashita means Understood. I suppose it is more formal though... Anyway, I don't know much he just mentioned it on another of his lessons :)

  • Yea I saw his other lessons too. Its just about where you use it, when you talk to someone, you use wakarimasu in normal chat when someone explained something. But when someone gives you a detailed order or something like that you could also say wakarimashita (yep I understood). ^^ what are we actually talking around the hot soup.

  • lool idk why you guys are complaining i can hear this guy perfectly lol

  • Thank you for this!

  • lo. everything is all cool except for the fact that i can barely see what's wriiten on the board...nice lesson, though..=)!!

  • Why do you write so small, It's not like there isn't any room left. It's amost impossible to read the kana (Neither the Western alphabet)

  • just a simple suggestion you should put romanized words so it's easier to read.. ._.

  • how would you spell the dont understand word in ranji

  • you good but you voice is not clean enough

  • but hes trying..

  • What is not clear enough? His Japanese is way clearer than most people speak to be honest. If you cant hear what he's saying you better try harder or give up.

  • o.O when you pointed up, and said the link was there, I actually have a tab open to your site and you pointed right at it.... XD I've been writing stuff down all day and night.

  • nice i thik u should do a video teaching

    personal pronouns

  • You have a good way of teaching. I actually needed this. ありがとございます

  • is wakaranai the same with wakarimasen?

  • wakarimasen is more polite

  • yes. nai kei is the plain form of masen kei

  • I can hardly understand ya, and the sound quality doesn't realy help you plus the noise

  • I can't see the white board, it's too blurry.

  • try to watch it in HQ

  • Domo arigato gozamsu!!!! <3

  • Wakarimasu ikutsuka no Nihon-go.

Arigatou watashi no sensei aruiwa kyoshi !

  • "私は日本語が分かりましたってどういう状況で言うんだろう???

  • I like his lessons, but I'm having trouble with both the audio and the handwriting. Can anyone tell me what the third sentence is, in English and Japanese?

  • For the benefit of people who cannot see the words:

    Understand (わかります)

    I understand Japanese

    わたしはにほんごがわかります (understand)

    わかりません (don't understand)

わかりませんでした (past tense of don't understand)

    わかりました (past tense of understand)

  • Thank you, this helpped a lot!!

  • @illumis Arigato!!

  • @illumis thanx a lot

  • could you put the camera jut a little closer to the board? Or write just a littlebigger?

Eiher way, thank you for the upoad^^

  • All the kids in my Japanese course watch too much anime and they always use past tense for everything. I keep trying to explain they should just use "masu" at the end but they always use "mashita". Well it's their money going to waste at the end of the day haha.

  • Comment removed

  • ok da lesson is good but u need to zoom a little in da riting den da teacher ok plz dat will just be better

  • Well, if I may advise, you have a terrible grasp on the English language. Please work on that before you continue to brutalize an additional cultures language.

  • wat do u mean i got a terrible grasp on da english languge nd im not brutalizing or watever u said an additional cultures language

  • "wat do u mean i got a terrible grasp on da english languge nd im not brutalizing or watever u said an additional cultures language"

"What do you mean I have a terrible grasp on the English language. I'm not brutalizing or whatever you said about an additional cultures language."

I hope that makes my point.

However, this video is phenomenal. Thank you Sir.

  • I'll have to forgive you for allowing our youth to degenerate the language that much farther.

I am 19, which puts me not that much ahead of you. I'm not a "proper nerd" but I know the language in which I speak. You will grow up one day and understand.

  • agreed.what kind of word is "da" I LIKE DA WORLDZZ.lol.nice spelling.idiot.

  • Hey! I'm fourteen! I have to say, I dont always put in capital letters or whatever, but I don't use english THAT badly..=P

  • well mayb for u but not for me

  • Your own grasp of the English language isn't the greatest either.

  • Awesome! Someone male making japanese language tutorials. Thats great because I heard that if you learn from a woman then people think that you're a poof. You're fairly good at explaining it to.

  • You should zoom in...I can't see le...

  • BANZAI ..lol

  • classic examples of how not to teach a language - pure grammar and the teacher is not prepared, no context, language teaching should be from simple examples not from a board

  • true , but he's showing it in hiragana on purpose . and he does point out the grammar . [literally ...] watch it again . XD

  • do I really have to?
